The Grande Colonial is my favorite place to stay when visiting San Diego and Front Desk Manager and Leisure and Hospitality expert Michelle De La Espriella my go-to person to ensure an amazing stay. I've really lost count at this point how many times I've stayed with them the last several years, but I haven't been disappointed a single time. Every one at the hotel is courteous, helpful, accommodating, and friendly. The hotel is full of charm, history, and character, the rooms luxurious and of course depending on the room, the view of the ocean spectacular especially at sunset as the location of the hotel is prime. I look forward to many more stays at the Grande Colonial.

Hotel's Favorite
The Grande Colonial is always our choice when visiting LaJolla. The hotel is beautiful, a wonderful combination of timeless elegance and modern comfort. I love walking through the front doors to the beautifully furnished lobby with its carved, gilded moldings and view of the ocean. The rooms likewise retain historic charm, but feature clean modern bathrooms. The staff is fantastic and incredibly nice. They always go out of their way to be helpful and it is clear that they love the hotel and care about the guests' experience. The hotel also boasts Nine-Ten, a Michelin starred restaurant. The food is amazing and I love that they provide the hotel's room service. Truly, we visit every summer and and would not consider staying anywhere else. We visited with our daughter this trip, but it is also a great choice for a couple's getaway.

Dear Slkthom: It is always a pleasure to hear from our repeat guests, especially those who have been so supportive of us over the years. Not only do we appreciate your loyalty, we appreciate even more you sharing your sentiment with others here on TripAdvisor who may not yet know where they are staying while visiting the area. We are indeed a historic hotel, dating back to 1913. But as you mention, our true hallmark is our warm, gracious and friendly staff. I am so happy that your review reflects what we strive to achieve each and every day. And thanks for the additional kudos about our NINE-TEN Restaurant. So glad you enjoy it. We look forward to having you back for yet another visit. Sincerely, Terrence Underwood, General Manager

The hotel is beautiful with a great location and walking distance to so many nice stores, restaurants and the beach. The room itself was very nice and comfortable for the most part. The fridge did not actually get cold enough to keep water or soda cold, but there was ice available. The beds were comfortable with lots of good pillows. And that great ceiling fan over the beds made my night's sleep even better!!! The bathroom was not the best. The half door on the tub/shower did not keep the water from splashing out on the floor. And there was no air circulation in the bathroom, so towels stayed damp even after hanging on the towel rods all night. The water pressure was very low...hard to rinse shampoo out of my hair. The hotel staff seemed friendly and helpful. For the price they charge per night, I would expect a little improvement in the bathroom situation. But the view from the little balcony at the end of our hallway was nearly worth the price of the room. And stepping into the hallway and feeling that beautiful ocean breeze coming from the open window was so wonderful!!!

Dear JeannelO7703OG: On behalf of our entire team, I am grateful for the comments about your recent stay with us. While our location in the heart of the Village is ideal, walking distance to the very best of our community, we take great pride in our staff. I am delighted to see that reflected in your review. On the flip side, I do appreciate you bringing to my attention some of the issues in your bathroom and with your refrigerator. I will be sure to have our maintenance team inspect to ensure any issues are repaired immediately. Thank you for letting us know. I hope you will give us another opportunity in the future. Sincerely, Terrence Underwood, General Manager

This hotel has a great location, and staff were very nice. Housekeeping was upon request only. The room was fine, but was very loud at night. I had to download a white noise app to sleep, and I usually have no difficulties. I had a room that faced the pool, where people gathered until quite late, but my colleagues said the street-facing rooms were even louder. It's a short walk to La Jolla Cove, and there's a nice running map provided by the front desk.

Lovely historic ambiance with ocean views, our room was spacious yet cozy for a flagship style property. The bed, linens and towels all met if not exceeded expectations. Daily texts enabled easy of communication around timing of daily room cleaning (if desired). Staff was professional and friendly from valet, front desk and housekeeping.
