This is a great hotel off the beaten path, which was perfect for my family, especially during covid. You can walk to La Jolla Shores within 5 minutes or drive to La Jolla Cove within 10 minutes, but while you're at the hotel you don't have to worry about a ton of people. This is clearly an older hotel, but they did a great job cleaning it. What truly stood out and results in five stars is the service. From the moment we checked in, the staff was beyond helpful. We had baby equipment and golf clubs delivered and while we were out they brought everything up and set it all up for us. Any time we needed something, they remembered us and were always quick to help. Every time we entered or entered they hotel, they would say hello and ask how we're doing. I'm sure this is a tough time to work in a hotel and they truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable.

I am often in the San Diego area on business and tend to be a loyal Marriott fan but was referred to this hotel by an associate who knows the area well. Boy, can I tell you how happy I am I strayed from my normal hotel? First, the place is immaculate from the rooms to the grounds. During Covid, I have been extra careful during my travels and clearly it is of concern to this place. When I walk through the lobby, it always feels like someone just cleaned. I’m not sure how often they do mop and “wipe” all the surfaces, but I see maintenance doing it all the time. Second, the service at this Hilton is fantastic and far superior to any Hilton hotel I’ve stayed at. Unfortunately, the restaurant/bar has been closed since I started staying here. I’ve stayed 6-7 times this year and the service has never faltered. As an owner of a previous company I can tell you that superior service starts at the top. The general manager Michael exemplifies this. His staff feeds off his leadership and I get the feeling all of his employees enjoy working there. I’ll never stay at a Marriott in the San Diego area again. I’ll stop writing now as this is the very first online review I have ever done. I chose this hotel as my first one to review because I like pointing out superior service in a world where most hotels don’t care much anymore. Thanks, Daniel

They will charge you for damage that you did not do! There were black marks on the walls, and since we didn't complain.. why bother we were there for 1 night.. We get to pay the $150 charge! are you kidding me.. Obviously this is a scam! Don't even bother calling the General Manager Mike, he is rude and arrogant and lacks any customer service! If you have to stay there because everything else in a 50 mile radius is booked, then take a bunch of pictures and COMPLAIN about everything wrong in the entire hotel.. otherwise you will charged for it.

Regretfully, damages left in rooms are subject to fees. All of our team members are honest individuals who are eager to ensure the cleanliness, safety and comfort of all our guests. As you stated on your call to us and in your review, the damage was there when you arrived, but you decided not to let us know. Your encouragement to other guests to alert our team about items that may be different from the norm is appreciated. We have a lot of eyes and ears around the hotel, however an extra set can never hurt. Our best to you.

Aside from the hotel’s restaurants and bars being closed, this was a pleasant place to stay for a few days. It was walking distance from La Jolla Shores Beach. We snuck a peek at the top floor bar (closed now) and the view is spectacular. Hopefully we can return and enjoy the view. Housekeeping left us alone for the duration of our stay, but were great about getting us extra towels, coffee, etc. Under the current conditions, it was a quiet and relaxing stay.

I just finished my 3 night stay at this fine establishment and wanted to point out how happily, cheerfully and service orientedly (word?) your Front Desk employee Dana was on my trip. This was my first stay with Hotel La Jolla. I arrived from Los Angeles after a 2 hour drive and was immediately greeted upon approaching the front desk, efficiently checked in and welcomed with a Thank you for being a Hilton HHonors Diamond member and notation of an upgrade to an Ocean View room because of that. When I asked about the breakfast vouchers I usually receive, I was a little disappointed that Cusp was not open. Dana assured me I would be given an additional 1,000 Hilton HHonors points to compensate. He also had an enthusiastic recommendation of a restaurant I could walk to for breakfast in the La Jolla Shores Business District. That was a good solution proposed for a problem during check in. On the last night of my trip after returning from the car I found that my key did not unlock my room. I went downstairs to get rekeyed, but that still did not work. Engineering was dispatched, but I had to wait about 10 minutes, so I called down to the Front Desk and asked if and when I should expect engineering. Next thing I know Dana is up on my floor with the intent to let me into my room with a Master Key. Unfortunately that did not work either. Dana asked if I wanted him to hang out with me while we waited for Engineering because he didn't want to leave me stranded outside my door to wait alone. Knowing that Cusp was now open on a Thursday night, I suggested that the Hotel treat me to a dessert for my trouble (25 minutes by now outside my room.) Dana quickly responded he could buy me a drink. I let him know that I don't drink and he responded with "Let me find out what I can do?" and went to Cusp and his manager to find out what could be done. Engineering recharged the battery on the lock and was finally able to let me in my room. I went back to my business on the computer. A few minutes later Dana called and let me know that his manager had approved a dessert, that the chocolate chip cookies were being baked and he would deliver them to my room with my new room keys in about 20 minutes. This really changed my response to the inconvenience to a positive. I often stay at Doubletree by Hilton Hotels specifically because they offer me warm Chocolate Chip Cookies upon arrival and during my stay. So here I was receiving extra service and freshly baked Chocolate Chip cookies from Cusp and delivered to my room. That at least matches the Service at Doubletree and exceeded my expectations. Please double what you are paying Dana and promote him to a position where he can train and inspire others to have that cheerful, positive, energetic, can do and service oriented approach to Hospitality ! ! !
