Our weekend at the Sheraton La Jolla was perfection from the time we checked in to our departure. The recently refurbished rooms were beautiful and the beds incredibly comfy! Every morning we enjoyed the delicious complimentary Starbucks coffee in our room to start the day off. Check-out was conveniently done through our email. We look forward to more visits at this wonderful Hotel.

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed in a family room which was quite spacious and renovated enough. It was clean and the staff were attentive when we needed towels and sheets. I popped a fuse and they fixed it very quickly. The food at the bar and restaurant were very good and Charlie was a star! The pool, hot tub and grounds were all very pleasant and we didn’t hear any dogs barking! There is a little strip mall right next to the hotel with water, alcohol, pizza and pho noodles and 2 minutes (walking) further is a large strip mall with everything needed. The hotel is right off the 5 which makes it convenient.

Ok..hadn't been here for several years due to CoVid. But before that, was a regular due to the good location and great pool. I did notice that the rooms had been renovated, which is good as they were previously pretty dingy. However, from my first contact with the front of desk staff - WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!! Got in at 3pm after a long drive, and expected to get my room as check in time is 3 pm . But no - there were none available, and another 20 people ahead of me waiting to get a room. Clerk at front desk was aggressive and rude about it, just blaming everything on "CoVid". She said she would take my phone number, and give me a call when a room was free. So 2 hours later, still no phone call...so went back to see what was going on. The aggressive woman hadn't even kept my phone number - the new guy at the front desk had no record of my number at all, so we were never going to get a call. This sums up how terrible the service is at this hotel. Another example..... My 2 year old needs to nap every afternoon, so we went out every day until noon and then would stay in the hotel room from about 2-4pm while toddler slept. Every one of the previous dozen or so times we had been at this hotel (we have other kids) , we could ask the front of desk staff to coordinate with the housekeeping staff to clean while we were out...but not this time. Every time we went to front desk to ask, all we got was passive aggressive attitude and a statement that this was not something they were willing to do. So...if we wanted our room cleaned (which you kind of expect for $300 a night) we had to manage it ourselves with the housekeeping staff - many of whom don't speak English (but were friendly and helpful as far as they could be). I'm sure this is a great system for them to scam customers, as they must be saving a fortune in cleaning costs It would be easy to come up with a dozen other examples of how poor the service is at this hotel. It's frustrating, because it used to be a well run hotel in the past...but it has seriously declined in the past 2-3 years. I heard horror stories from other guests too so it wasn't just us. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL UNTIL THEY SORT OUT THEIR STAFF SERVICE. For the price they ask, there are MUCH BETTER PLACES TO STAY (Embassy Suites etc). What a gong show...bleh...won't be going back.

The hotel is a bit dated, which is not a big problem. Still bearable and cleanish. However, the sheets were worn out and very uncomfortable. Even kids were complaining about how rough and itchy the sheets were and took a long time to fall asleep. We were there for the UCSD school tour, which is walking distance from the hotel. About 18 minutes walk to student center. The pool is good size and looks nice but we didn't have time to use it. Parking charges $25, but can walk 5 minutes and park on the street.

Rooms in need of renovation and modernization. They charge for parking $25/ night. Bed was so soft it was difficult to sleep in. Pillows were lumpy and also so soft as to give no support. Temperature was difficult to control and it was drafty.

When I checked in I was told that there is a $25 fee per day to park in the Unattended, Park At Your Own Risk" Gated parking lot adjacent to the rooms when I complained they said I could park on the street 1/4 mile from my room for free. After complaining that they didn't tell me about the parking fee when I reserved and they DID wave the $25 for the first night ... I didn't stay a second. When I got to my room (515) there were dogs barking at me from 511 and 513. But they stopped when I got inside. In the room I noticed they had bottled (2) water but they had $2.00 tags on them??? I can't believe they charge for water on top of the $211.65 negotiated room rate and $25 parking rate. I left the room for the day but I returned I noticed the room across from mine 514 now had a seemingly larger Barking dog ... I was obviously staying in the "Dog Kennel Wing". I was scheduled for surgery at 6 AM the next morning so I complained to the front desk. I complained again at at about 10PM and the desk said they had other complaints and were working on the problem. I didn't want the hassle of changing rooms. Unfortunately the dogs barked at each other until about 1 AM when the owners started to return. The rooms were well insulated enough so a pillow over my head made it bearable. The next morning I rose to find 2 "Earwigs" crawling on the bathroom floor. I crushed them and left them for the maids to find. The thing that finally broke me was when I arrived at home on the 21st, my credit card company flagged me because The hotel was posting "Pending Transactions" for April 19, 20, and 21 for $285.73 (Not my negotiated rate) but I had only stayed the night of the 19th. I tried to call customer servive but gave up after 15 minutes on hold. I called the hotel manager (Number on my receipt) and she assured me those would all clear and my negotiated single night rate would post "soon". Unfortunately it does tie up nearly $1000 of my credit limit until it posts officially ... someday but not as of this writing If you plan to stay with this Sheraton / Marriot for an extended vacation, be prepared to have Thousands of dollars of your credit line needlessly tied up during your trip ...And I suggest you bring your own Bug Spray, Ear plugs and bottled water. Also consider being dropped off by a cab / Uber might also save you the parking fee.

Great stay at a great hotel! You can smell the tropical vegetation. Pool and jacuzzi are awesome. The restaurant got great food and SD local craft beer. Due to jet leg, we woke up early and enjoyed the morning breeze in the garden. Lastly, the wifi is free and fast!

Travel is a bit stressful these days, but my husband and I had a very nice experience here this past holiday. We arrived late due to traffic and weather but found the bar still open and an exceptionally friendly bar tender who was happy to see us. The food and drinks were very good. We were visiting family nearby, so we were in and out quite a bit and did not use housekeeping due to Covid concerns. Our check out morning was a bit hectic because we were trying to get ahead of bad weather and we accidently left some personal items in the room. Housekeeping found them and returned them to us! Thank you, Veronica!

My Mom is currently a patient at UCSD Medical Center. This hotel is a 5 minute drive to the Center and within walking distance to a great outdoor shopping center, which allowed me to easily shop and dine! Everything I needed was right next door (I spent most of my time at the Whole Foods Market…everything I needed for my special diet, including smoothies)! The young woman at the front desk who checked me in was extremely nice and very service oriented! It was dark when I arrived, so it took me a few minutes to figure out where my room was and the actual parking lot. The room looks like it has been newly renovated. I found the bed to be too firm for my RA afflicted body; perhaps others would be fine with a firm mattress. I didn’t have to pay for parking, so was thrilled! I think they should reconsider their “pay for parking” situation as it’s just flat pavement parking…perhaps there is security monitoring I didn’t see. Overall, I was very satisfied.

To sum up, this place is old, dingy, dusty, & smells musty. Many items in the room like the lamp, nightstand are sticky. Stains on carpet, furniture, and tables. Bathroom is gross and sooo small. In the BA you have to scoot over next to toilet to open the door. Shower is disgusting. Mold growing on grout. There are water damages on the ceiling. Just overall very cheap motel feel with low ceiling and old furniture. I couldn’t wait to get out of here!
