Stayed here 4 nights in Holiday Suite. We got here early and very low on energy because we'd been up since 3 am to get to the airport and just wanted to crash. The staff was really great jumping into action to let us check-in over 2 hours early so we could get a little sleep. The place is very clean and nicely decorated. It has a distant view of the ocean and gets cool breezes as a result. Robes are provided in the armoire and there's a fireplace with wood/starter etc should you feel inclined. Maid service is good. The grounds are beautiful with well maintained tropical plants, a babbling fountain, and a patio with brick walkway, artificial turf and plenty of chairs/tables/umbrellas to sit out and sip wine, eat breakfast or visit but take a sweater for cool October mornings. There are 5 parking spaces in the rear alley, and adequate front street parking after 4 pm. Bed was comfortable, pillows could be much better. Like most everyone in La Jolla, they are very dog-friendly. Citrus-flavored ice water and a jar of baked cookies are available 24/7 in the foyer as well as tea bags, honey & sweeteners (but sporadic hot water). Two significant disappointments: there's no on-site staff on Monday & Tuesday (or after 5 pm other days) with just the owner on-call (who usually responds quickly but a bit inconvenient). One day the usual 4:30 pm complimentary wine and cheese didn't happen because of this. Secondly, breakfasts vary greatly with no options, some were quite good, some sub-par - unless you consider Denny's good for breakfast. Pancakes were made from a box a mix. One morning was biscuits and gravy so we went elsewhere later for breakfast. The owner usually cooks one or two days and served some excellent quiche one day. For the price, you could much more at a 5-star hotel.

Andy R. - thank you for your review. We are so happy you found the grounds and stay comfortable and relaxing. We are so sorry you were disappointed with the wine and cheese and you found the breakfast inconsistent. We will certainly take a look at these areas to see how we can improve.

We stayed at the B&B during our stay in La Jolla. I truly enjoyed this historic building and the sweet service we received. DeeDee is a gem. Absolutely 5-stars for DeeDee!! She was very knowledgeable and does whatever it takes to make her guests feel welcome and well taken care of. She is an excellent hostess. The chef, also 5-stars. He made breakfast each morning very special and he delighted in letting us know what he would be preparing for us each morning. We had french toast one morning, and eggs benedict on another. Not only was the food delicious, but a very special start to our day. It was very relaxing to sit in the terrace and enjoy coffee, juice, full breakfast, and the beautiful weather. Big bonus in staying here! Our room was spacious & cute but a little weathered. They may need to think about remodeling the bathrooms. We had extra pillows in the room slippers, and books to read at leisure. I enjoyed that. Do not make your reservation with an excitement for the "wine & cheese" in the evening. This was a big disappointment for us since we were looking forward to it. The only wine they provided was white wine (which we do not prefer). The cheese portion was super limited by a handful of cheese & crackers, and a few pieces of salami on a plate for everyone to share. It was clear that it would not be replenished. We were told it was only a "token" gesture for their guests but my response to that would be, "Do it right or don't do it at all!" The location is awesome for walking around the town of La Jolla. If you are a B&B fan and love old historic buildings with a personal experience, you will love this place. I would definitely stay at this location again.

The place is amazing with a gentle touch of rustic life and the comfort of home. The garden at the backyard is just wonderful. In addition to the great location I want to mention their breakfast - it is a piece of art and there was nothing that could make me skip it. And a warm welcome from the owner and stuff. My special gratitude to Brooke and Dede for assisting me retrieving the personal possessions I have forgot in the room.

The building, room and grounds are beautiful. We stayed in Fiesta. The location is ideal-about two blocks from the shore and close to restaurants and shops, which are plentiful in upscale La Jolla. Everything else was neutral for me. I did not like the breakfast but if you like tofu you will be very happy.

We loved this beautiful B&B! Such a friendly staff really made us feel at home... greeted with a glass of wine, we found a wonderful collection of classic books in our room and could sit in the adorable courtyard to unwind after a long drive. Breakfast was great with Chef X! You can clearly tell how much he loves what he does, a very genuine and enthusiastic food lover! Across the street we had the cove, amazing restaurants and parks. We watched couples get married at sunset every evening and loved playing in the water during the day (our car never left it’s parking spot!)
