stayed for one night to experience a thermal spring onsen around kyoto. located a train ride away from kyoto station with a hotel shuttle pickup to and from the station this resort is nestled in the hills in the countryside of kameoka. the public bath is fantastic and really grows on you, the meals were fabulous kyoto style set menus...

Staying here was a dream! I went with my bf and his mom (who is from Japan) and literally had the best time ever! OMG. I still dream about the food we ate there. It was so fresh and tasty. Best food we ate while we were in Japan.

We stayed 3 nights in this hotspring / resort. The atmosphere is typical Japanese although we could communicate well in English with the people working at resort. We could experience the beauty of uncontaminated nature! We had a nice relaxing Japanese hotspring bath (very unique experience). My boyfriend and I really wanted to experience Japan so we ventured out to this location. It was roughly a 30 min train ride west of Kyoto and another 10-15 shuttle ride to the ryokan. It was definitely in the outskirts of the city but it was a gem! We were the only foreigners there but they spoke some English...

Spend a night there for its onsen facility and good recommendation of other travelers. It is not close to any tourist spot.
