I had a fantastic time at Bellscabin, and am happy that I could stay for two nights because one wouldn't have been enough! The owners are friendly and warm, willing to help and answer any questions they can. The setting is incredibly beautiful and if you're an avid walker or hiker it's an ideal base with plenty of interesting things to check out in the immediate vicinity, and if you're willing to put in a 45 minute walk uphill, you can get to Karuizawa town easily enough. I visited Bellscabin during winter and the warm, cosy atmosphere was truly a blessing to come home to. The dorms are small and comfortable and the amenities offer everything you need from a backpackers. They make a solid BLT and a delicious cup of coffee so you can start your day on a good foot. I will definitely be back, hopefully in the Spring this time!…
Very beautiful and warmful wooden house. I very like the design of interior. Just feel like home. Although the backpack room I lived in was small, everything was complete and the quilts were very warm. The living room on the first floor will be a great place to stay and rest.
After leaving Tokyo we spent a night in Karuizawa at Bellscabin and the contrast couldn't have been greater. It is set amongst woodland in a semi rural area about 10 minutes from the Shinkansen station. It is run by a husband and wife couple who really made you feel at home. The facilities are relatively basic but it is good value for money. We will stay there again if we manage to get back to Japan
A little bit disappointed when compare with the reviews while we stay for 1 night. Need to share their guesthouse in the facebook before you use their in-house wifi service. No kitchen for cooking but we have bought something in the supermarket and ask the owner to cook for us in their kitchen and pay for them but they refuse. Only have microwave and the water boiler doesn’t work. Our double room have a queen size bed and a sofa which is quite large and specious. Because it is a wooden cottage, when people walking outside your room, noise come from while sleeping. A little bit dirty in the bathroom. No shops & restaurants nearby and far away from the station. Suitable for driving only.
My friend and I stayed at Bells Cabin in 1994 to stay overnight while we were skiing and to attend a friend's wedding. We remember this place very fondly. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. I remember the staff being very accommodative, especially for we "gaijin". We were so happy with our stay, we ended up going again and I left my George Michaels music video tape as a present!
