This is a budget hotel, with friendly staff, clean rooms, and prices you are looking for. There are no restaurants nearby but a small market with gas pumps is within a block. the towels are very thin...but clean and ample. The shower is good. There was no shampoo in the room but the friendly desk clerk provided it when asked. No frills, but everything you need for a safe, clean stay. Near railroad tracks so could be a bit noisy near the front street side.

Tiki statue outside front desk, original tropical inspired railings, other signage, and some palms make this place a worthy photo op of vintage Route 66 nostalgia. Staying there may not be everyone's cup of tea.

By the way, a little further east down street is a filling station which used to have a Route 66 museum, but now you can just glimpse some of the collected cool old motoring and fuel signage from behind chain link fence.

But back to this hotel: Friendly front desk clerk, very typical cheap n cheesy American motel. Decor was the usual shoddy stuff you see in a million old but functioning motel rooms, but I did sleep okay as the mattress wasn't one of those annoying pillowtop things that all of the hospitality industry has been duped into dubiously upgrading to by the mattress company cartel.

The train rolls by every hour during the night and if you can't handle the jingle, the rumble and the roar all night long, you'd better get a hotel located well off of this strip.

We try to frequent family-owned and operated businesses and usually have good experiences.
This was an exception.
-The room SMELLED clean-so much so the smell of cleaner/disinfectant was so strong we had to open all the windows and door for an hour before the smell dissipated.
Even though it smelled clean, the non-slip grooves in the shower were dirty and it looked like the shower hadn't been scrubbed fo some time.
-There was only a partial roll of TP and when we asked the staff for more we were told to go to the office to get it.
-We had to PAY FOR ICE!
-Last but not least, you should also love trains, because they run all night long, shaking the building and rattling the windows. At least we didn't have to pay for the vibrating bed!

This place really grew on me over the short time I stayed there while at Coachella. At first it was just a place for me and my new friend to hang out after the Coachella festival, but as the week went on it became like a second home. It is reasonably sized so unpacking my stuff such as my indian headband, hand moisturizer, and lipstick was no problem. The bathroom was a little cozy and the ventilation was not so good so it steamed up so much that a thick layer of steam formed onto the mirror but that was actually what we were looking for. The floor was a little slippery and I fell one time but that might be because of the lotion on my feet. There was good wifi in the room so I was able to post some good Instigrams of me and my friend at the festival. The ceiling was a little low so when my friend and I practicing me going on his shoulders I bumped my head a little....OW. My hairbrush mysteriously disappeared on the last day so I'm not sure if a maid or someone stole it so that was unfortunate. There was a fridge that we could use to store out beef jerky and peanut butter sandwiches, even a freezer for the ice pops I brought. There wasn't a garbage so I didn't know where to put my eyebrow pluckings or toenail clippings so I just threw them out the window. They charged my friend extra since his Shasta Chinook RV took up two spots which is fair I guess. The walls are little thin so the people in the room overheard me saying "I am naughty" and asked me about it the next day which was uncomfortable. Overall it was a pretty good motel, especially considering the fact that I didn't have to pay for it. I hope other people are able to enjoy it the way I did next year at Coachella.

We had been traveling for more than 6 hours straight and needed a place to stay on our way to Arizona. Unfortunately, there was a tennis tournament in town and the nicest place we found was completely booked so we were referred to this place. Not only do they overcharge their customers (our room charge was $110!!!) but the room was disgusting. They don't even provide a cheap shampoo and the soap provided must have been 20 years old because it crumbled when I took it out of the wrapper. I'm so glad I always carry a travel size shampoo with us. This place is definitely one I'll avoid in the future.

The Tropics Motor Motel is a quality piece of American Highway History and a classic family run small business. The hotel is clean and nicely cared for. The average hotel price in Palm Springs was $150 the night I was passing through. I paid about $70 at the Tropics. I look for this type of hotel and am very pleased when I find historic gems like this.

This Motel is simple, affordable and conveniently situated near the 10 highway. The room I had was clean enough and the bed and bedding were clean and comfortable and the shower worked. The bottom line is, this is a motel and not a proper hotel so for anyone to expect anything more is only going to throw you off. If you are traveling and just need a place to rest and freshen up, this motel is just right, if you expect room service and fancy soaps and lotions in your room, there are much more expensive hotels around the area.

There is a good Mexican cafe with a 4 minute walk from this motel, what more do you need ???

We made the mistake of not booking in advance and were sold rooms at $152 single and £200 twin. Yes it was busy and we were tired so we took them. Tired and run down but taps and locks work but not wroth more than $40m max and nowhere near as good as a Motel 6 or Econolodge

I stayed here with my mother and some other relatives. We were travelling with a 91 year old lady so we wanted at least one room that had a sitting area so that we could sit and talk while the elderly lady slept nearby if needed. Unfortunately the "sitting area" turned out to be a kitchen table with three chairs around it squeezed into a small kitchenette (which by the way had a fridge and microwave but not one piece of crockery, utensil or even a kettle to brew a cup of tea).

The room that I shared with my mother had someone else's old food still sitting in the fridge, someone else's "personal soap and showering equipment" still in the shower, someone else's hair still in the bottom of the shower. It had not been cleaned very well at all.

The sheets appeared to be fresh........but sometimes this can be hard to tell. The bed however was quite comfortable.

The towels were fresh, but so small I couldn't even wrap it around myself and I'm not a big person!

I'm sorry, but for the price of this place I thought it was definitely lacking and wouldn't ever recommend it to anyone heading to Indio.
