We stayed in an older room and it had a few quirks, but It was nice and clean. The bedding as some of the best I have ever had in a hotel. The inn keeper was a delight. Food was simple but well made. The room was a bit frayed in a couple places but that didn’t detract. They also have some newly updated rooms that are much more modern and fancy, I liked ours with the old marble vanity, no TV, and clothes press. There is a lot of space to hang out in the common areas if you are traveling with friends or family and it is part of a winery so you can visit the 11 related wineries too. Oh, and it was quiet. Close to downtown, but without the noise of the plaza.

My first visit to the Inn. Mainly I’m figuring out when i can book a return trip for the next Healdsburg Jazz festival. Location is absolutely perfect. I could walk to the best restaurants in Downtown Healdsburg. Several of the jazz festival events were walking distance . The inn was quiet. Rooms were airy with at least 12 foot ceilings. Light breakfast in the morning. A couple nearby excellent coffee shops open well before breakfast.

Excellent location, easy walking distance to downtown. Great mattress, individual minisplit HVAC (which will be quite useful in the summertime). It's a charming old building, with the quirks that go along with that -- probably uninsulated (read: slow) hot water pipes, narrow staircases to upstairs rooms. Staffing is pretty minimalist, but that rarely presented an issue for us over our 4 day stay. Breakfast was quite freshly made and tasty, and different each day, but it was a challenge for the staff to timely serve all guests at a single 9:00 seating (we would have preferred earlier).

The property is adequate and in need of some updating but overall, I would give the property a three. Why I am giving this property a two.. The person managing the property is either very overworked or hates her job. She was curt, abrupt to talk to and made it pretty clear she didn't want to be bothered. We arrived early to drop our bags off and all the doors were locked to the inn. We rang the doorbell and were greeted rather unpleasantly for arriving early. When our room was ready later in the afternoon there was no assistance provided in getting bags to the room. I asked for a kettle for the coffee/tea station and she said she didn't have one, they were all being washed. The first morning we ate breakfast at the Inn, it was slow to come, the scrambled eggs were cold and overall wasn't very good. We were departing early on the second morning and our hotel confirmation stated that a boxed breakfast could be requested. When I inquired about it I was told, no. At one point during our 2 night stay she was complaining how busy she was and her work was never ending. The wine hour is a joke, there are a few bottles of white placed on a cart with a few wine glasses sitting there. There was no sign even indicating that was the complimentary wine. When I asked about things to do in the area she said there was information in our rooms and to read that. I have to say that spending over $1,100 for a 2 night stay to celebrate my 50th birthday with my best friend, the Camellia Inn was very disappointing. I am a travel agency owner and am always looking for places to recommend for my clients, I can say that I would not book this property for my clients.

Dear Wendy, I’m so sorry to hear of your experience at the Camellia Inn. We enjoyed our 2-night stay at the Camellia Inn. It was our second visit, and it was as charming and restful as the first. However, the 9:00 AM start time for breakfast was extremely disappointing. There were 7 of us who waited patiently as the kitchen staff labored to provide a delicious meal. We were the last two served, after waiting nearly an hour. During that time, the coffee urn was quickly depleted and I had to visit the kitchen to inquire about a replacement. The creamer ran out and was never refilled. We finally left the Inn about 10:30 AM, with only 90 minutes left of the Healdsburg morning. Not a great start to what wound up to be an otherwise excellent day. Needless to say, we skipped the second breakfast we had dearly paid for, and enjoyed a delicious pastry and plentiful hot coffee a few blocks away on the Square, followed by a pleasant hike in the Healdsburg Preserve, all before we would have even been served. In my experience, a 9:00 AM breakfast start is way too late for the traveling public, especially if it takes another 90 minutes to complete what should be a relatively simple meal. I hope to return to the Camellia Inn, but I look forward to a better, and earlier, beginning of the morning. The previous owner delivered a much better "breakfast" part of this Bed and Breakfast.

Response from Tim Polk, Sales at Camellia Inn

Hi Guide. We're sorry for what seem to be issues with your breakfast. This is not the normal. We do feel that 9:00 a.m. fits the needs of the vast majority of guests, as the wineries really don't open for tastings until 11:00 a.m. Regardless, we hope to host you again. Tim, for Innkeepers Jude and Tracy

This inn has a terrific location in downtown Healdsburg. You can walk to restaurants, shops, and galleries! Also, while the breakfast is chef's choice (you can identify any special dietary needs), it was delicious and plentiful every day. We visited during the incredible heat wave and the room a/c was able to keep us cool - that was a lifesaver. The staff was friendly and the room was charming. Thanks for a great visit even if it was 115 degrees outside!

Our room was awful. I cannot even believe they keep it in the mix to rent it. It should be set aside for renovation and not rented until then. The four post bed had a plywood headboard, with screws keeping it in place. The carpet was ancient and dirty, with rips from where previous furniture had been (the sink/vanity). It just felt old - in a bad way - and unloved. And the staff person we interacted with had no warmth or hospitality in her. She was in a hurry, loud, abrupt, and generally unwelcoming. To put a finer point on it, they texted me the day after we checked out to find out if we had taken shampoo. Because they refill it. We had not (they are large bottles) but after paying $400/night for a terrible dump of a room, you'd think they'd just pull out a back up shampoo and move on. But no. They TEXTED me to see if I had it. Why? Were they going to charge me $5? This place is bad. And I do not recommend, at all. (The website photographer deserves a big award.)

The property is interesting, comfortable and has a pool with free onsite parking. The stay was excellent and we were warmly greeted by the innkeeper with our room reservation, wine and a warm cookie. Breakfast in the morning was in a group setting and was excellent and ample food to start the day. We met very nice people at our table who traveled long distances to stay in Healdsburg. Highly recommend this property.

We stayed two nights and were very happy with the room and the host. It was very nice to actually receive a text that our room was ready if we chose to check in early! Our room was very clean and the bed was comfy. We only were able to attend breakfast one morning due to our early departure on second morning, but the one we did have was very hearty and obviously fresh. Very Nicely done!! We would certainly stay here again.
