#2 of 12 hotels in Healdsburg
Opened in May 2005 and created by the Mars family, Hotel Les Mars brings the elegance and unobtrusive service of the finest European family hotels to Northern California. Hotel Les Mars follows the philosophy that patrons should be treated more like visiting friends than guests, and upon entering the lobby, visitors are welcomed to the warm smiles of the hotel staff, unique 17th and 18th century antiques, and a comfort found only at the home of a very good friend. Hotel Les Mars represents an intimate location, a labor of love, and a new dimension of sophisticated, luxury lodging in wine country. Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report, the definitive guide to luxury travel, commented that "Les Mars now sets the standard for luxury accommodations in Sonoma."

This is a nice hotel. Our room was well furnished with a gas fireplace. The bathroom was large with both a shower and a tub. It is centrally located which made it convenient to walk around Healdsburg. Guests of the hotel receive tastings at Foley wineries which was nice because we had some great wine and went to some wineries we might not have tried otherwise. However, although the front desk supposedly made reservations for us we repeatedly showed up and there was no record of a reservation for us. Fortunately, it wasn’t a busy time and we got into the wineries anyway but we felt like idiots, especially by the third time. Breakfast was included and brought to the room but got tedious because it was the same each day of our almost week long stay- scone, yogurt, fruit and muesli. Even as a continental breakfast I think it would have been nice if at least the bread product varied. Coffee and tea for breakfast were made in the machine/kettle in the room but the tea bags, coffee and cups etc. were not restocked from day to day without asking which made no sense. Were we supposed to keep the cups for the next day and wash them with shampoo? It is also very, very expensive and I thought very overpriced for what it was even if you are paying for location. The bed linens were Frette but literally full of holes. The towels were a mix of standard hotel towels and Frette linens but were similarly frayed. Parking is a short walk away in a public lot. All in all pleasant but not worth almost $1000 per night with service charge and taxes.

Lovely big room , very comfortable bed, just a charming hotel and also a very good restaurant. Would be lovely in the winter with the fireplace. Long French doors that open into the tree top. If you can’t travel to France this hotel is your best bet. Also a very tasty restaurant right down stairs.

We experienced absolutely excellent service at this hotel. The concierge went above and beyond to help us secure last minute car service (side note: do not be like us. Google lies. Uber/Lyft work in Napa but absolutely does not exist here in Healdsburg!) twice throughout our stay. The hotel is obviously historic and the details are pretty. The beds are wonderful. However, we were a bit disappointed with the overall value for what you get. When we were there, the complimentary breakfast was the exact same thing every day, delivered to your room. It got a little bit old after the second day. The safe in our room was broken upon arrival, and the fireplace in our room would not light (not a deal breaker in August, but still - would have liked everything in working order). This hotel does not have a pool or a gym or any of the other amenities that one might expect at this luxury price point. Overall, it was a good and comfortable stay but we wouldn't go out of our way to return.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel, just off the square. All employees whom we encountered were extremely nice and accommodating. Since things are just starting to open back up post-Covid restrictions, I don't think the hotel was very full as it was very quiet. The beds are comfortable, the amenities in the room are nice (Nespresso machine in the room for your morning coffee) Turndown service was the first we'd encountered in this pandemic world, and very nice surprise. The concierge was extremely helpful in securing reservations for wine tastings at nearby wineries and dinner reservations even on this popular weekend. My only complaint is that the included breakfast is served a bit late for our schedule - two choices, 9:00am-9:30, or 9:45/10:00. We are early-risers, so it was hard to wait so long. And the breakfast choices are very heavy - breakfast burritos or sandwiches. I would have liked a lighter fare choice, such as a continental breakfast of muffins/scones and maybe some yogurt rather than the heavy options. Otherwise, this was a great stay.

Although this hotel gets rave reviews the experience left us "raving" but not in a good way. Upon arrival we waited 30 minutes in the lobby while the receptionist sorted out the mistake made in the room assignment. The specific room we reserved and paid for was not the room we ended up occupying. As my reservation specifically stated I had rented a room on the 3rd floor with 2 queen beds and 20 foot ceilings, what was waiting for us was a king bedded room on the second floor with 10 foot ceilings. Since we were two sisters in our 70s sharing a bed wasn't on our wish list and we are a bit claustrophobic, hence the allure of a 20 foot ceiling. It was not to happen. Then came the price difference between the two rooms. The 3rd floor room was considerably more expensive than the one we spent two nights in...and of course since the hotel ran our credit card even before we arrived- we continued awkward and disappointing conversations with a series of 20 something clerks who all claimed they were hired last week and didn't know the system quite yet. The hotel claimed they could not make a monetary adjustment-- we needed to take that up with the 3rd party platform we used to make the reservation. All's well that ends well ( maybe) after a call to the reservation company who sorted out the financial discrepancy...but what a way to start a holiday. Then came the water faucet in our room which was installed backwards-- making turning it on and off a bit confusing. Then came the the ragged floor to ceiling drapes that covered the extensive windows....beautiful material drapes with
