Warning- there is a foghorn. I liked it!

Rooms are very well ordered, nice set up with ocean views that allow watching a Marina with fishermen coming in, or in the distance in the ocean fishing with bright lights. Jetty and beach also has people fishing, walking, surfing, riding bikes, but don't forget you have a pool here. Right next to a very popular restaurant that you can walk to. Beds were very comfortable, even the sofa bed.

But lets talk about the continental breakfast - you know the one with cheap breads and stingy portions. They have extremely good bakery goodies, top shelf with a varied selection. Real bagels, not some cheap stale grocery store item. The coffee is excellent and a nice fruit salad. Clean and tidy.

We really enjoyed the place and that is what really counts.

We have stayed at the Beach House Hotel Half Moon Bay for at least five times now (2 during Covid), and we have always had a terrific, blemish free time!

The front desk staff is warm and accommodating, and housekeeping does a conscientious job of cleaning the room during during these times of Covid.

We have always been impressed with the amenities: wine hour on Fridays and Saturdays, and the Continental breakfast served to your room due to Covid precautionary measures (as opposed to buffet style).

Actually, the Beach House is one of the few places we'll stay during these Covid times.

We feel very safe and cared for here. Staff is always cleaning public areas, taking away breakfast and "shelter in place" dining trays and garbage. When you request any amenities, be it towels, shampoo, etc. housekeeping brings it to your room on a covered, freestanding tray. Very hygienic.

Just excellent accommodations and service.

Enjoy your stay,
Kate & Don Postel

Visited for our honeymoon early August, 2020. Rooms were extremely clean - sanitized, service was great and all precautions were taken for COVID. Rooms come with a fireplace and complimentary daily wood wrapped in a burnable burlap sack. All deliveries are made wrapped in plastic, including extra towels and shampoo's. Deck faces the harbor and bay. Note: if you need extreme quiet, the foghorn may bother you as it sounds every 2-3 min. For us it was soothing and far enough in the distance. We stayed for 6 days and after a while, never even heard it any longer. Restaurants are walking distance. HMB is within a few minutes drive. Horseback riding nearby. Recommend the trail/beach combo. Can't wait to be able to visit again.

Nice hotel in Half Moon Bay on the beach side of the highway - a big plus. The pandemic has definitely put a damper on our travel activities. After months in the house, we really needed a weekend away and the safety procedures at the Beach House made us comfortable booking a reservation.

We had a penthouse suite, though I am sure the other ocean view rooms are every bit as good. The rooms are spacious and have nice views. We enjoyed the high quality bluetooth stereo. The contactless complimentary breakfast is delivered to the room and so we could enjoy our coffee and tea on the balcony with some snacks. Expect carbs and fruit. No protein items available. The option of simple boiled eggs would help make this a healthier start to the day.

Our only disappointment was the that we had the single south facing penthouse, Room 317, as opposed tone of the other west facing units. While it has a nice view of the bay, it also overlooks the patio and pool area and has line of sight to Highway 1. All of these contribute noise that makes this room less desirable. Honestly, I don't think this room is of equal value to the other penthouse rooms.

Any west facing room, Ocean View or Penthouse, would be great, though some reviews mention noise problems for the northern rooms, as well. That means the 307 through 316 rooms for Penthouse. If you see the attached pic, it looks like there may be west facing 117 and 217 on the lower floors, though the second floor also has a south facing room. [see image attached]

Typical summer fog never really cleared as we had hoped, but the temperature was pleasant. The beach was more crowded than we would have expected for an overcast day, requiring masks when in close proximity of others. It was great to get out on the beach and enjoy the fresh air.

The hotel staff are terrific. Always responsive, helpful and super nice. Would definitely come back if we can guarantee a west facing room.

We stayed at the Beach House just for 1 night on Aug 2-3.
I was skeptical in checking in a hotel during this CoVid pandemic but we needed a change of scenery.
We felt safe staying in the hotel and wearing mask is implemented. Also when we got inside our room (Ocean View) it was very clean and smelled like they sanitized (I hope so ) . I called 3 hours before check in but I was told us that early check in is not possible as they have to do deep cleaning (which is good and they were full capacity the night before)
Cleanliness of the room is superb.
Also the hotel is very clean so I know they are following all the safety protocols. I also noticed that they open the small windows along the hallway to let fresh air in which is a plus so it's not just inside air circulating in the hallway.
They also patiently answered my questions prior to our check in. Again, I was a skeptical guest .
We ordered the freshly baked cookies and it's so good. My only complaint is the glass of milk not being covered when it was delivered. I wish they put a lid or plastic wrap.
Pool and jacuzzi is by appointment only . It's good to again comply with social distancing.
Sam's Chowder house is literally just next door so it's convenient to get lunch or dinner. Serving size for seafood is good. The dressed lobster roll is great! We ate our dinner by the patio area.
Definitely will be back. I hope this time we will get the Ocean view room downstairs . My daughter would have enjoyed watching the little bunnies hiding in the bush.
Thanks the Beach House for our memorable and safe stay during this pandemic.

We stayed this weekend at this hotel. This beautiful hotel took great measures to keep hotel clean and make guests feel@home despite covid-pandemic: clean rooms, individually wrapped plates, plastic wrapped cutlery, remote control in the rooms, FREE breakfast with the stay served in the room (preoder the night before) , pool and jacuzzi available (30 mins prescheduled by guest to avoid crowding). We will definitely return to this hotel.staff are very nice and accomodating too. Bonus, Sam’s Chowder restaurant is 3 mins walking distance from this hotel.

Hi Kidemdee, Thanks so much for the great review! We have gone through all our protocols to ensure a safe and healthy environment for guests and staff alike. The individually wrapped items and exclusive pool and jacuzzi use are just a couple ways we have revamped our procedures. I am so happy you felt safe and were able to enjoy the beauty of the coast (and Sam's!) Thanks again for the kind words and we look forward to your next visit soon. All the best, Lily

The hotel itself is fantastic but there are a few things that bothered me. I’m a single mom on a tight budget so this one night trip was huge for me and the two teens. I did upgrade to a partial ocean view which was really pretty though. Our first step into the room was overpowering by a carpet fresh smell, my daughter has asthma so I was really worried, we opened all the windows and it it did help a bit but the lingering smell was a bit to much for me. On the website it says the pool and hot tub is closed during Covid but when we got there they said it was by appointment only and was already booked. The girls were supper disappointed at this. The website really needs to be updated. The room was really nice and clean, all the little extras was a really nice touch but the traffic noise was to horrible. I think this is my biggest complaint. We really wanted to sleep with the balcony door open for the cool ocean breeze but the traffic noice was crazy. Maybe if you upgrade to the full ocean view it would be a bit better but that’s out of my range for now. I suppose that’s why they included ear plugs in the bathroom kit they supply. The teens had a great time though so I kept all this to myself so I would not spoil the day. I probably won’t stay again just because of the street noice.

I just had a three night stay at the beach house. Undeniably a great location, although a bit more street noise than I would’ve liked. That said, I would likely have rated it a four out of five except for one big issue – – while sitting on the couch eating my lunch one day, the door to my room opens and in walks a man who works for the hotel. He sees me, says, “Oh, I’m sorry,“ and leaves.

I travel a lot, both for work and pleasure, and easily spend 3 dozen or more nights a year in hotel rooms, and I have never had this happen before. I immediately called the front desk, and the response was ridiculous. The woman with whom I spoke completely shrugged it off and said that it was just some mistake and that he probably meant to go in a different room. When I asked why he didn’t knock first or announce himself as housekeeping, again there was zero concern and I was simply told it was because he thought he was going into a different room.

I find this outrageous at any time, but during a worldwide pandemic when we don’t want strangers in our hotel rooms, to have it be taken with so little concern was shocking to me. And what if I had been changing my clothes? Or head young girls in the room? Truly, truly amazing to me how little concern was expressed. And, it all could’ve been avoided if the doors had chains to prevent someone from with a key card from entering. They do not.

Needless to say, I will not be returning.

Westpgal, I am very sorry that you had this experience. This is unacceptable at any time and does not conform to the Beach House standards or protocols and I can assure you that the employee in question has been reprimanded. Our protocol is to knock and announce yourself before entering a room even if you believe it is unoccupied. During the pandemic, our protocol is that no staff will enter a guest room while it is occupied. We have gone to great lengths to ensure the safety of all our guests and staff with our COVID procedures and protocols and I completely understand and share your concerns. My staff did inform me of the incident at a later time and your bill was reduced to compensate for the incident. Each guest room does have a deadbolt that will deter events of this nature, but I apologize for the incident and that you felt it was not addressed correctly at the time. We are continually trying to improve all our procedures during this time so guests and staff alike feel safe and protected and I hope you will give us a chance to earn back your trust in the future. All the best, Lily Front Office Manager

You can hear the water at night from the ocean rooms. I can hear it right now. It's very peaceful. The waves at the beach in front of the hotel are very small and calm. Like bathtub waves.
