We are local and booked a night to surprise my girlfriend with a proposal and as a quick weekend getaway. We didn't have a good start, but things got better later. First, the traffic to Half Moon Bay was almost always horrible. The valet greeted us as I drove to the hotel and took care of the car and the luggage. The check-in line was about 10 mins wait around 2 pm, and I was told the room was not ready. I waited in the lobby bar, which took over 20 mins to get a drink; there was only one bartender on a busy afternoon. Our room was ready at 4 pm, and we were upgraded from the no-view room to the cliff-view room. Firepit rooms or suites were available for an extra charge; surprisingly, it's not complimentary for Titanium. Anyway, the provided room was well and indeed had a beautiful sunset view which we did enjoy for our short stay. Our 2 pm late checkout request was also granted. For activities, we played tennis; they have plenty of courts, which needed to be booked a bit ahead of time. We also did a short hike to Manhattan Beach on a beautiful afternoon for a proposal. Once we returned to the room, the hotel sent a bottle of prosecco to congratulate us. We dined at Navio for dinner and then all-you-can-eat Sunday Brunch the next day. The service was the most accommodating I've ever had in any restaurant; the extremely nice staff congratulated us on our proposal. We were seated at an oceanfront table for both meals despite not reserving them, and they provided us with lovely complimentary drinks (vintage Madera after dinner and mimosa for brunch). There were many similarities between dinner and brunch menus, so it's important to plan accordingly. To me, scallops were the biggest winner, but everything else was also very good to excellent. While two meals came to a bit over $1000, including a few glasses of mid-level wine, which I find reasonable with the outstanding experience we got. Overall, I had a fantastic time at the hotel shout out to all the hotel staff. We will be back for Navio for sure. For the stay, it's a bit hard to justify the price without a special occasion, especially with the lack of high-category room upgrades.

Beautiful location, beach, sunset, Lobby was gorgeously decorated with LOTS of flowers for lavender? season? room had a GREAT tub with hot water immediately. loved the products they had: soap, shampoo, etc. Housekeeping was great. luxurious slippers. Only negatives: a. cheap toilet paper and tissue. You're the Ritz Carlton, go to Charmin ultra soft, go for better tissue. b. valet parking was $65/night. with NO self-park option. There's LOTS of land out here. don't charge me that. didn't make me want to tip the valet... GREAT service though!

Absolutely wonderful experience! Gorgeous property and well maintained with breathtaking views. Service was attentive, friendly and on point. Johanna at check-in was warm and welcoming. She took the time to explain all the amenities and lay out of the facility since it was our first time visiting the area. We very much appreciated the room upgrade to a beautiful coastal view. Stunning! We had a lovely dinner at Navio's and was more than happy with our menu choices. Jeff our server was friendly, humorous and very knowledgeable with the ingredients and pairing of our selection. The desserts were phenomenal, who would have thought of a "deconstructed pina colada"?! Edith, our attendant for breakfast at the Conservatory was lovely. It was evident from her vibe that she enjoyed interacting with the guests and took pride in the facility. Having a beautiful five-star resort is nothing without the people that truly make the magic happen. We will be back and will highly recommend RC Half Moon Bay to others! Thank you!

This is Long but well deserved. I always loved this place, have been going to it as a local for years. However, wthe first time I went when Marriott took over, I had requested 2 suits with Ocean view a complete Anniversary package and was so disappointed. But I deceided to go back and try it out for my birtday weekend and OMG the Ritz care and customer service feeeling was back. Started out with the bell men, as he drove me to my room heimmeditaly noticed I was unhappy with the Oceanview from the outdoor seating (fireplace area) cause all I could see was grass and no ocean. I was upset cause I hsad called several times and requested and to make sure that for the patio area with the fire pit have a straight ocean view and but all I can see is grass. He immediatly packed me back up and said lets go see the manager and what he can do. He will take good care of you. Oh and did he do that Rafeal Corina, was a doll. He could see my sadness and not only did he walked me to 2 rooms to ensure I picked one that I was happy with the ocean view . He also had a bottle of champange and smores waiting for us in the room but he also went beyond making our stay amazing. His staff was all wonderful and I loved how his team reported to him and took care of their customers. They made you feel special. I stayed at Ritz in HMB many times as a local and now as an Arizonian. I was there with my Michigan friends and new AZ friends. We all defeintely will be back. I had written all their names but I lost my notes however I did take all their pictures. I wrote such a bad review the last time I stayed that I had to take the time to tell Marriott thank you for hiring a great team of employees and an amazing Manager pleasefollow up with Rafael to recognize the names of the employees in the pictures so they are recognized. Thank you for making my 50th birthday a special one.

When I pay $1300 a night for a room I expect, well pretty much perfection and in fairness this is a spectacular hotel, with on the whole some amazing facilities and great service. However, it is more than let down what is frankly the MOST DIRTY, DISGUSTING swimming pool complex I’ve ever had the misfortune of encountering at a hotel of ANY quality. Seriously just look at the pictures, Moss covered ‘glass’ roof tiles pouring water onto the floor and all the deck style chairs so that they can’t be used to put your towel on, a floor so fowl it beggars description and rusty hinges where ever you look. What’s almost worst is 1 YEAR ago I brought this to the attention of the management of the hotel who assured me it would be cleaned up and plans were in place for the entire complex to be rebuilt. Well a year later nothing has changed and so to stick 5 stars above the door of a property offering a fitness facility like this that’s not even deserving of 1 star, whilst charging top top dollar is an a absolute insult. Sort yourself’s out Ritz Carlton this is simply NOT good enough I’m a customer of many many years who’s spend hundreds of thousands of dollars accommodating clients at this property and others and got more coming in June and frankly had enough.

To the GM at the Ritz Carlton, Half Moon Bay and to whom this may concern: For all you travelers, looking for a holiday vacation along California’s North Pacific coast at a assumed luxury property with hostel-style amenities, look no further than the Ritz Carlton at Half Moon Bay. Our family decided to spend our New Years 2022 holiday at this property and what a mistake we made. For a property that is only a little over 20 years old we soon found out it was in major need of renovations. Day 1, as it was a holiday family occasion we decided to book a premium one bedroom suite, apparently one of only two suites with an ocean view at this property (Room #660 for reference). Little did we know our suite was located right outside the service staff elevators -what a nightmare- insomnia all night long due to the noise of the elevators. The wretched noise of the elevator shaft still ringing in my head….who would place a elevator outside a luxury suite?!?! This was only the beginning. Day 2, next were the toilets -nothing better than a clogged toilet for a family of 4! Not once, but twice did we have to wait with a vile smell in our room for hotel maintenance to come unclog our toilet. And finally, Day 3, my young son goes to take a shower before bed and finds himself frightened and standing in 3-inches of water and soap as the shower drain is now clogged as well! As a result, none of us were able to take a shower due to the non-functional bathroom. To make matters worse, after nearly 2 hours, hotel maintenance was unable to fix the clogged drain and my little ones were exhausted and kept awake until 11:00pm!! What an unpleasant and frankly uncomfortable series of events and experiences. And on the eve of this New Year, my family and I scared and afraid of what we could expect next. In fact the story gets worse. We wake up the next day with no follow up from any of the hotel management staff… We go downstairs to speak with the front office director, Manuel Terra, who despite expressing concern for our situation ultimately attempts to resolve the matter by placing us in two standard adjoining guest rooms; one of which included a handicap accessible shower… (not a suite- and certainly not what we paid for!)… Mr. Terra also committed to following up with us for our troubles and inconveniences however as of this writing we are still waiting on a response from management and it has been over 12 hours! We would not have expected this with lack of responsiveness from the Director of the Front Office and Guest Relations at a Ritz… Bottom line-The inconvenience our entire family has been put thru the last few days and the fact that we were required to change rooms to a downgraded accommodation, no to mention the quality time wasted on our holiday travels is completely unacceptable. Unfortunately the hotel staff has done nothing today to make our final day at the property, and the last day of 2022 a more positive experience… As I complete my Trip Advisor review on the eve of the New Year, my family and I are extremely disappointed with the quality and service we received at this property. Furthermore as a Bonvoy Ambassador elite member, I feel that my family and I did not receive the value we paid for during our stay and in my view this property does not meet the standards of the Ritz Carlton hotel properties. The 3 is for location & the sunset. This place seems to have fallen prey to the same staffing challenges of other high end properties post pandemic. Everyone seems to be holding it together and able to respond to basic requests - but certainly not anything above and beyond. Dinner service in their casual restaurant was slow - and when the server realized he’d delivered a Pork Chop vs. the Lamb Rack I’d ordered, he didn’t make a move to correct it. No in room mini bar, or bath salts for the bath - small details that allude to all the other small details that are missed. We came to assuage our curiosity for a local staycation. Probably won’t be back.

I recently stayed 3 nights at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay to celebrate finishing my 7th decade. What I hoped would be a special occasion became one of my best resort experiences ever. The service at the hotel was excellent from top to bottom. The bellmen, front desk, housekeeping, and restaurants all provided terrific service. The staff I interacted with were friendly, competent and professional without being high strung or stuffy. I’ve stayed at 8 or 9 domestic Ritz properties and I think the service at Half Moon Bay is the best. Our room was clean, comfortable, and everything worked as it should (which isn’t always the case, even at high end hotels). The grounds are extremely well kept and the outdoor Christmas decorations were magnificent including a 25 foot, fully decorated tree with oversized packages all around. (Great for photo ops) The dining options vary quite a bit ranging from the outdoor Ocean Terrace, to the all purpose Conservatory, to fine dining at Navio. We ate mostly at the Conservatory where the quality of the ingredients, the food preparation, presentation and taste were very good to excellent. We chose to stay at the Ritz to celebrate a special occasion, not necessarily to save money. The Ritz might not be the best choice for those on a tight budget. But we were willing to spend extra to celebrate this milestone in my life and the Ritz staff made our stay into a 3 day celebration beyond our expectations. I highly recommend this property for special occasions or to have a nice getaway. If interested in more details about our stay, read below. The entire hotel, inside and out, was tastefully decorated with Christmas trees and decorations which really provided a festive holiday feeling. However it was the top flight service that stood out to me even more than the decorations. Before arriving I had told the hotel that I was celebrating my 70th birthday. I thought I might get a happy birthday wish from the front desk at the most or maybe a complimentary dessert. To my surprise, nearly every staff member we encountered for 3 days gave me a birthday greeting which made me feel very special! Chocolate covered strawberries were waiting in our room compliments of Mr Gorina, a manager. Our room was clean, comfortable, and everything worked as it should (which isn’t always the case, even at high end hotels). Housekeeping was responsive to our needs and did their jobs well. The grounds were extremely well kept and the outdoor Christmas decorations were magnificent including a 25 foot, fully decorated tree with oversized packages all around. We had access to the Club Lounge for one day and enjoyed 3 meals there. There is a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as a very nice range of tasty small plates and snacks at meal times. There is an omelette station at breakfast. The Club has a super relaxed atmosphere where we could enjoy food, beverages, and conversations without feeling rushed. We actually didn’t need to go to the restaurant after dining in the Club because we were full. While there, the Executive Chef for the entire property, Roberto Leyton took the time to introduce himself us and chat for a bit about the restaurants. That just doesn’t happen at most places and was very cool. Special shout out to Violeta, Jenelle, and their team in the Club Lounge for their excellent service. Dining Aside from the Club Lounge, there are three dining options. The Conservatory serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The fine dining option is Navio for dinner and weekend brunches. The Ocean Terrace is outdoors with a lunch/afternoon meal service. Aside from the Club Lounge, we only dined at the Conservatory. A few of the standout dishes to me were the crab meat benedict, the omelette, clam chowder, hamburger, rack of lamb, and ceviche. Austin Hope was my red wine of choice this trip. In addition to great service, the servers and restaurant manager also gave me birthday greetings and a little treat to go with each meal. Thanks to the manager, Jaime, and the entire staff. And a special thanks to Maria V for, in addition to her excellent service, is a warm person who easily connects with guests, including us! Maria V. and other staff like her are part of the reason we would choose to return to the Ritz Half Moon Bay. As a frequent traveler, I’ve stayed at many hotels that are well run with competent staff. however when the staff makes a connection with me, that is one of the things I remember when I consider where to stay the next time. We were so excited to stay in such a beautiful location, ocean front. Unfortunately from the moment we arrived we felt unwelcome. We booked our rooms 5 months prior and upon arrival there was not a king size bed available as we had booked and expected. After a discussion with the staff, there was now an available King size bed for an additional cost - really!?! I think the rate of these rooms should not warrant any additional cost for what we originally booked 5 months prior. As well, there are additional charges for daily parking! We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed the area of Half Moon Bay very much. Unfortunately after a beautiful mid morning walk along the ocean front at the hotel, we wanted to sit outside in the courtyard to take in the view. After sitting down, the server brought us menus. Once she realized we were not interested in ordering, we were asked to leave and to not take up the seats in the courtyard area. There was nobody in the area except my wife and I and our 2 friends. We certainly would not have sat down if the courtyard was busy with people ordering from the menu. As a paying client of the Hotel, we were not able to sit outside and enjoy the view. I talked to Wesley (Front Desk Manager) about this issue and was promised a call back. I have not heard from him yet. I sent an email once arriving home following our vacation, still no response. We have stayed at many amazing places in our travels. This was the most unwelcome we have felt. It seemed that the Conferences going on in the Hotel were priority, understandable but that is not a reason to ignore the other paying guests. I have never written a review before but felt the need to review this property because of our disappointment. I would not recommend staying at this Hotel.
