We were here for our daughter's wedding. The BEST place to hold such an event. The attention to detail was superb. The entire weekend went smoothly with no hiccups!! Having our wedding guests be able to stay at the hotel was the best - made for a very comfortable and easy way to see everyone. Love, love, love the Oceano and will always appreciate how well they handled the wedding. BTW, the rooms are fantastic and food is superb!! 5 stars all the way around!
Weekend staycation with my wife in this beautiful oceanside town of Half Moon Bay. We picked Oceano Hotel for its convenient location, free parking and it is a walking distance to several restaurants. The hotel’s lobby is lovely with high ceiling and it is tastefully decorated. The check in was welcoming, pleasant and quick. Our assigned room was clean, with 2 queen size beds, there is a living room with a large screen tv and a fireplace. Our room also has a balcony with a sliding glass door with ocean and marina views. The bathroom appeared very clean and is spacious with a separate tub and an enclosed shower. My bed and pillows were comfortable that provided me with an uninterrupted sleep and I woke up very refreshed in the morning. My minor negative observations are that the tv in the bedroom is so small in these day and age. And when we first arrived to our room, we found the door to our room was left open by whomever who last cleaned it. Also I could not locate the thermostat at first, and I found out later on that the thermostat was obscured by a table lamp. After we got settled in our room, we simply walked to a nearby restaurant to have a delicious seafood dinner. The relatively spacious fridge in our room was spacious enough for all the leftover food from our dinner and with enough space for the 2 large sandwiches we brought to the hotel.…
Disappointed in this overpriced budget hotel. We got a room with a view. Ha! Yes, the marina was out there, but only once your eyes and ears got past a huge public parking lot. Late Saturday night the noise outside drew us to the window to see what was going on. In the parking lot that constituted most of our view, the owner of a 1960s low-rider car was trying to get its engine going, and apparently was revving the engine at a high RPM for 15-20 minutes to prevent against it stopping. It was ridiculous. Wish I could say that was the only disturbance of this kind. Booked a “suite.” In my book, suite means two different rooms. Not - one big room with a waist high wall to separate “the living room.” Bed was old and soft, and I woke up with a back ache. “Spa” was barely open. Not clear that it is a real spa. Couldn’t ever get anyone to answer phone - phone forwarded to front desk every time I called. Asked if I could get manicure, and told they don’t do manicures. Really? What kind of spa doesn’t do manicures. Furniture a bit dated and worn. They seem to benefit from the shine that the Ritz Carlton puts on Half Moon Bay. Make no mistake - this is no number two to the Ritz. Go Ritz or go home.…
Comfortable and relaxing experience from check in to check out. Friendly staff exceeding expectations. Awesome views from the great location. Walkable convenience. Can't say enough about this great property. 5 star rating doesn't do justice. Definitely recommend the Oceano.
Recently stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the Bay Area. It was a last minute decision and we were fortunate to get the last room they had located in the Inn. The Inn is a separate building from the main hotel and is very nice. From making the reservation to checking in the employees of the hotel were professional and very nice. When making the reservation they explained where the room was, last room left and an ADA room, no problem for us. The room was large, clean with a view of the harbor. Bed was very comfortable and even though it was summer it was chilly, due to morning fog, so we used the gas fireplace. Bathroom was large and very clean. Several restaurants, Fish House, Italian, Steak House and Pub, located within walking distance to the hotel. The hotel has a restaurant but wasn’t open when we were there. If your in the Half Moon Bay Area wouldn’t hesitate to stay here.…
I booked this stay for our family of 4 and splurged on the 2bedroom villa…NOT cheap! However, the 2BR Villa just happens to be right above the BAR. Imagine trying to have a relaxing stay with loud music and even louder mingling going on right below. I phoned the front desk and they said the bar closes at 9pm. It’s now 9:43pm and the only thing that’s changed is whoever was on the microphone has stopped using it. We have a family event nearby this weekend and all of the other hotels are booked. I feel trapped in hell.
This hotel is worth every bit of its 4 star rating and the hotel alone I would rate a 5/5 on Tripadvisor. It has many suites with an absolutely wonderful view of the bay and small airport, especially at night. There are a ton of wonderful photo/facie opportunities from most of the hotel rooms and right across the road from the hotel. However, I dropped one rating point to give the hotel a 4/5 for a few reasons: -- Most of the local restaurants are highly overrated and over-hyped, and on top of that they are massively overcrowded at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the day. -- Most of the local shops are just about the worst mall-like beach tourist-trap shops you'll find anywhere. The first negative alone would be enough to drop 2 points from the Tripadvisor rating, but this hotel luckily has two excellent places to eat and drink right next to it, within 50 feet. One of those is a fish shack called Barbara's Fishtrap, which has vastly better seafood than any other restaurant. The other is Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, which has about a dozen excellent in-house beers available and a fairly full range of restaurant food, including more than just pub food. The exception on the second negative point above is one local shop next to the brewery, which is a nice homey privately-owned shop with interesting small items and clothes. It definitely does not have the typical beach souvenir crap, but items you won't find anywhere else. On the first negative with the local restaurants, you'd expect the in-house restaurant in a 4 star hotel (with room service) to be half-way decent, right? The in-house "restaurant" is nothing more than a pub with pub food, exactly what the brewery next door is not. It's probably because they can't compete, but still, do something else. We walked in twice, looked around for 5 minutes, and there was nobody there either time, 3pm and 5pm. We just grabbed a menu, looked at it, and it was just random pub food that was likely all microwaved. But the room service for things like wine bottles, glasses, even champagne glasses, was all excellent, living up to any 4 star hotel. Needless to say, this hotel is great for a one-night stay on the weekend or something like that, but there really is very little to do if you stay for more than one night. And, two excellent restaurants gets old fast after two days maximum. Lots of nearby scenery if you're OK with relatively cold beaches like I am, but don't expect more than that and two places to eat.…
Beautiful suite with views of the bay. Great facilities. Spa was closed unfortunately and adjoining shopping mall had just a couple of shops. We loved the Peruvian restaurant nearby. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast diner was good too.
My friends and I came to this hotel for a beautiful wedding venue recently. The property itself is huge with spacious parking space for guests. The rooms that we stayed in are a bit out dated but it also gave a bit of the titanic washed to shore feel. The staff are all super nice and tentative, will go above and beyond to cater to our requests. My overall experience was superb, would come back just for a quick staycation not too far from the city!
We stayed in a king suite. I was very impressed with the size of the room as well as the view of the ocean. I liked that it had a fire place. There was also a mini fridge but no microwave. The bed was comfortable and large. There was a good barrier from sounds from outside but we were disturbed by noise in the hallway as well as foot steps from upstairs. I would recommend trying to get a room on the top floor if possible and maybe bringing sleep plugs. We also liked that the room had a balcony. The staff was nice and the lobby and parking were good.
