Fern Grove Cottages were built in the 1920's for vacationing guests visiting the Russian River area from nearby San Francisco. The tradition continues, as Fern Grove Cottages remains the Russian River's best getaway. The cottages have been lovingly restored and most still retain their original knotty pine ambiance and warm yesteryear memories. Everyone is welcome at Fern Grove including well-behaved pets and children, with prior notice.Fern Grove is located just three blocks from the village of Guerneville with its quaint shops and selection of wonderful restaurants. You may also enjoy an easy walk to the nearby swimming beach on the Russian River. And of course our guests are invited to enjoy Fern Grove's heated saline water swimming pool.

What a wonderful place to stay! My boyfriend and I love cabins, woodsy areas, and nostalgia. So the Fern Grove Cottages were perfect for us! The cabins are charming and well maintained in the spirit of the 1920s (with a few modern upgrades of course). The grounds are beautiful! Even in November when things are starting to go dormant for the winter. It is centrally located, which made venturing out very convenient. But more than anything, what makes this place special is the host - Jenny. Jenny is one of the nicest and most hospitable people you will ever meet. Her knowledge of Sonoma County is truly remarkable. She happily gives many great recommendations. You could tell that she really enjoys running the cottages and meeting people. When she found out that we were up there for my birthday, she left a nice gift in our room! The only thing we would have changed is we would have rented a free standing cabin that doesn’t share a wall with another cabin as we could hear our neighbors next door. Nevertheless, we highly recommend staying here!

Room Tip: Rooms that are farther away from the road and free standing are quieter.

First off, I have stayed at the Fern Grove Cottages before and had a wonderful visit. So, I booked another stay last year the end of October with one night's deposit required but had to cancel the reservation due to the fires in Sonoma County and the evacuation of Guerneville during the weekend of my stay: all businesses were closed and the town was evacuated due to the proximity of the fire. I rebooked for this year for the end of July but cancelled due to Covid-19 and the cancellation of Lazy Bear week. Unfortunately, I was charged a $25 cancellation fee when I received my credit for my deposit back to my credit card. While I understand that small businesses are hurting with Covid-19, I also think this was totally uncalled for and a full refund should have been given with a gesture to come back when it was safe to do so.

We decided to make a road trip since our European vacation was canceled and went to Guerneville on our way back from the wine country as it as a convenient stop off Westside road with all the wineries. To be safe, we wanted a place that had no indoor lobby, etc. that you had to walk through to get to your room and the cottages seem like a good pick. We got a one bedroom cottage that had a bedroom, living room with a gas fireplace, and small kitchen area. It’s suited our needs perfectly during these times and the bed was comfortable. As many have mentioned, the gardens and outdoor seating areas were beautiful, we even ate one of our dinners there. Although we didn’t barbecue, there was both a charcoal and propane barbecue to use. They had several lovely bikes but again we didn’t use them preferring to sit at the fire pit outside and admire the many hummingbirds. Jenny made a fresh fruit yogurt parfait and scones and served them outside each morning. She is very personable and eager to help with suggestions for the area. This is a lovely place to stop if you find yourself near Guerneville. While the town itself is not a real destination spot, there are some nice areas around to visit.

We really enjoyed the cottages right across from Safeway w/ a super comfy tempurpedic mattress, microwave and frig along with 2 outdoor grills there are a lot of options for just chilling in the town or borrowing one of the cruiser bikes for a spin. The pool was a nice feature, wish it were open a couple hours earlier though. The gardens are lush & lovely and there is a large outdoor dining / gardenarea w/ a propane fireplace and many tables for evenings outdoors.Cottages are clean and comfy, and the folks working there are really helpful with just about any thing you could want. They are very careful and employ safe and sanitary Covid measures especially when serving the breakfasts , fresh baked scones, yogurt w/ fruit and grains and good coffee. We did not feel it was noisy even though it's right off the main road thru town.

The visit to Fern Grove Cottages is always a treat. It is even better when I bring friends for the first time. They always comment on the grounds and how lovely the setting is. Even though it has been a tough season, the flowers were lovely and there were numerous hummingbirds about. The cabins are cozy and welcoming. One can just lounge or visit the surrounding areas. During these times, it is best to make reservations or check on the specific set up for wineries. Jenny from Fern Grove will advise you on options and she provides a wine map along with discounts on tastings. Also, everyone was good about covid protocol.
