My wife and I were guests at Dawn Ranch Resort in one of the rooms overlooking the meadow, attending a friend’s wedding on the property. We had a wonderful time and hope to return to the area in the future. Pros: - the grounds are beautiful and include redwoods and walk-up access to the Russian River - walking distance (<5 minutes) from the shops and restaurants in Guerneville - quaint, cozy rooms - free wifi - about 5 minutes drive from the Armstrong natural reserve, featuring some great hikes among 1400-year old, 300+ foot tall redwoods - on site food & drink Cons: - our room was part of a duplex building with thin walls, so there was a bit of neighborly noise. - some typical hotel amenities like coffee makers and hair dryers were not in the room. These could be a problem for some guests but non-issues for us.

The setting is superb, marvelous wedding location. The rooms/cabins are not. Our "Chateau" was clean, with a comfortable bed and a sitting area and bathroom. On approaching, one of the boards on the entry platform was partially rotted, the paint on the railing blistered and flaking off. It gets chilly at night, even in August, with temps in the 50's. There is no insulation, so the interior became noticeably chilly. There was a thermostat, but it didn't work, and there was no heat. I began a shower, but the warm water lasted approx. 3 minutes before becoming cold, I'd soaped myself, so was obliged to rinse away the soap with cold spray. The light in the bathroom was a bare 60 watt equivalent CFL. The cost of the unit was $379.00 per night, plus $53.06 in tax. Total for three nights came to $1296.18. What should have been a joyous occasion left us feeling we'd been genuinely ripped off. Yes, the setting is marvelous, but we would definitely stay somewhere else. The trip was for a wedding. We were left with the impression they felt people would let price consciousness go by the wayside where a wedding was involved.

Cute cabins with a sweet meadow view but “ouch” to the ticket price - in total after taxes, we stayed in a bare bones cabin for $350 on a Saturday night - yikes! Full sized bed even! Asked for extra pillows and was told the last one was given out the night before 👎 Nice front desk staff and had a great dinner in the restaurant. This ain’t no wine country location though, so bring those prices down. Won’t be going back for the lodging....

At Dawn Ranch there is practically no security (no cameras, CCTV, no gate - at least not over their parking lot) and that is of particular concern being just by the main town road (116). Our car was vandalized in the night between Saturday and Sunday, with the vandal scratching our car with a sharp object on the roof, the sides and the hood: this means he spent quite some time on his criminal act, undisturbed, so clearly undeterred. According to evidence we have collected, he likely was a guest at the resort, we had some information which could have helped to identify him, yet nothing was done about it. What makes this incident even more egregious is: 1. Other crimes appear to have been committed before at Dawn Ranch, in particular a break-in in one of the cabins, where all of the customer's belonging were stolen (you can read about this in other reviews - Google it); 2. In that case, as in ours, Dawn Ranch's manager/owner took no responsibility whatsoever; in fact, they did not even bother to send one word of sympathy or expressed in any way that they were sorry for what happened on their premises; 3. Experience does not seem to teach Dawn Ranch's managers/owners anything whatsoever, even though this is about the security and safety of their own guest, as they did not appear to have taken any security measure after the break in mentioned above; all that seems to matter to them is making money, and at $200+ per night in a rustic cabin, they certainly go at it! So, stay there at YOUR OWN, and your property, RISK. And with better (certainly safer) accommodations available all around in the area, that does not make sense. We paid the consequences of not considering seriously the other complaints that have been published about Dawn Ranch.

If you have expectations of all amenities and life continuing at the pace you are currently living, dont stay here. This is a quiet little place, nestled in amongst trees, with a pool and close to the Russian River. Beautiful dining facilities but the rooms themselves are totally stripped down. No Phone, no TV, No kitchen gadgets, nothing connecting you to the rat race. The buildings are older but I have to say, this is extremely well maintained, Fresh paint, linens fresh and clean, ( Shower head could use to be lifted, its aimed for short people). I had zero complaints on this Hotel. The greeting I received when checking in was personable and welcoming, and the check out process was very professional. Would I stay here agin, Yes if I needed a quite getaway with a significant other, but I am addicted to technology so it wouldnt be my first choice, but no fault of theirs.. I will recommend this to you with the caveat that be informed and book in advance.
