I hadn't been to The Woods in awhile, so was a little shocked on how run down the main grounds were. Clutter and weeds breaking through cement. Orange street cones laying around for no apparent reason. Dying plants in broken pots. The room itself was fine, and thank goodness they maintained the pool better than the rest of the yard. It was clean, large and heated. I have good memories here, and the people running it are super nice. I just hope they read this and invest a little time and money into getting this unique and special property back up to what it was and what it deserves to be. Oh, and fix that useless WiFi!

A typical cabin room to stay in. Comfy and clean with aircon. Manager was very friendly. Parking available. Pool was easily accessed and had space (as it was in mid week). 2 minute walk to the Main Street.

We had a wonderful weekend stay at the Woods Cabin. Super clean, comfy bed, friendly staff, dog friendly, great location. And the garden is so beautiful. I'll definitely stay here again. Great choice for a Russian River visit. Thanks to the team there, see you again soon

The outside grounds are quite rundown, but the cabin was nice, though for $273, it was extremely small, had zero chairs, just a bed and two bedside tables... and a dresser (who the hell needs a dresser for a brief hotel stay, but again, NO chairs). The kitchen was a great feature, small but well stocked with full size fridge and freezer and oven and sink. Why two stars? Because we booked the room on Hotel Tonight, an app that doesn’t allow you to specify how many people are staying at the hotel. Previously, showing up with our two year old daughter to other hotels booked through the app didn’t require any extra charge, but at this hotel, they made us change rooms (to a significantly better room, which makes me wonder how ridiculously small the original room we booked was), and they charged a $45 “extra person fee” because we had our two year old daughter with us. The original booking price was $145, but with the room upgrade and extra person fee, they charged $273, damn near twice the original booking price. They explained that the reason for such unfriendly policies towards children was because they used to be a gay adult-only resort and only started accepting children because they had hemorrhaged so much money from the pandemic that they needed to fill the rooms by any means necessary. I have no problem with what the place used to be (gay predominant, adults-only), but if they are going to allow you to have a two year old child in your tiny room, they shouldn’t penalize you by charging almost twice as much as you originally booked the room for.

Response from Michael Preaseau, Owner at The Woods Cottages and Cabins at the Russian River
Responded Mar 23, 2021
Hi Nick. The room you originally rented was our Basic Unit with a queen size bed and a bathroom and it clearly states it's only available for 2 people. It was a very small room and we can't have more than two people in it. The cabin you were put into, with all fees and taxes, would equal a total of $319 per night. What we got from you for the room was $235. The room only sleeps two but because it's larger than the original room we accommodated your child and didn't charge you for her. It's important to remember when booking a room to make sure it will fit your needs. Most hotels and vacation rentals do charge for extra people, whether it's a child or an adult. Our fee isn't unusual or high. We did the best we could to accommodate your family on short notice. Our website clearly states only two people per room with a $45 extra for anyone else in your party if the room can accommodate the extra person. We've had this policy for 15 years. We didn't penalize you, we made sure you were put into a room that fit your family. I hope this clarifies your concerns.

This must be a summer destination if all the other positive reviews are correct. I went in Oct and the place is really neglected. I understand COVID and the nearby wildfires may have affected the economy here, so perhaps that’s why it’s so rundown? - the basic rooms are good, newly remodeled and true to the pictures on their website. - just a couple blocks to the Main Street with restaurants (though a lot of them were closed up) - the pool was unusably dirty. I saw cats drinking water from the pool. - the courtyard pictures must be from some previous time - see attached for what I saw - it looked like there was construction ongoing in the cabins - the street it’s on was dark, lonely, nearby hotels were deserted and we saw what seemed to be vagrants/homeless right outside the hotel - some visitors may find this setting uncomfortable - some loud people (not sure if they were guests) took over the outside fireplace area at night and were loud until like 3am - did not see hotel managers doing anything about it - check-in: there’s a little bell to ring and it may take some time for someone to come check you in. Guerneville in general was rundown and deserted in Oct 🤷🏼‍♀️

It was lovely. They have a mandatory 24hr gap between guests for sanitation of the room. We got one of the cabins. All very recently redone, and very nice. The pool was relaxing, just our group and a couple other guests (around 5 - 10 people max). They have a big outdoor fireplace for distance hanging in the evening. No parties or music at night, but we stayed up chatting around the fire each night. (The woods has tons of fire wood that they are happy to provide.) The garden is well kept with beautiful flowers and fruits/veggies. Dog-friendly. All restaurants in town have outdoor seating and serve drinks until 8pm. The river was nice, but the pool was perfection with no wind, plenty of sun and room to spread out. The owners/operators of the Woods were so friendly. We had such a good time that we stayed a third night. Support this place. It’s a gem...

Always love staying at The Woods, it's the perfect Russian River getaway! The friendly and inviting staff always make our stay enjoyable. The highlight of The Woods by far is their pool. They've got plenty of chairs and a relaxing, quiet experience. Always end up meeting a fun couple and others visiting. The modest rooms are always clean and comfortable with basic amenities. They even provide wine glasses and a corkscrew which always come in handy. It's perfectly situated just a short walk away from the restaurants in Guerneville and Safeway, which we always end up going to a few times to pick up things during our stay. They've even got some friendly cats that like to hang out under the deck. Can't say enough about how much we enjoy The Woods. Always come back relaxed and rejuvenated after staying here. Highly recommend staying here during your visit to Guerneville and the Russian River.

I made a reservation here but cancelled it within a week of making it and 4 months in advance of when I would be staying. Booking.com stated that cancellation was free but the hotel still charged me a $35.00. Would not return my money and had to call my credit card to dispute charge - huge hassle. Do not recommend.

This place has very cute cottage style rooms with a fire place. In our room was a small kitchen with a big fridge. When showering it takes a while to get hot water. They have a big swimming pool - water is very cold in the end of October. This place is in walking distance of all the restaurants and bars.

Booked a cabin for $250, which turned out to be a very clean plywood shack with a nice fireplace heater and sturdy thrift-store furniture. To be fair it did have a functional kitchenette, and was perfectly decent, but not for $250 in the winter. It’s definitely better than 3R if you want a quieter vibe but in a central location.
