Certificate of Excellence
Tucked into the Sonoma Valley hamlet of Glen Ellen, the Gaige House + Ryokan feels like a secret hideaway. Of course, it's not really a secret; the Gaige House + Ryokan is regularly recommended in Michelin and other guides. Gaige House + Ryokan is part of the prestigious Four Sisters Inns collection and is an elegant blend of vintage and contemporary architecture. The verdant, secluded setting along Calabaza's Creek includes an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. All guests enjoy complimentary breakfast buffet and afternoon wine and cheese tasting as well as refreshing green tea at check-in, house-baked matcha cookies, after-dinner sake alongside the port and sherry. The spa treatment menu includes new massages, with either lemongrass or lavender infusions. Guests staying in Gaige House + Ryokan’s Zen Suites discover additional enhancements found in classic ryokans, such as the use of yukata robes, geta and zori slippers.

Just a lovely place. Quiet, perfectly located, nice people. Our room was one of the japanese-styled suites, and it was fantastic; looked out on a little creek, amazingly peaceful. I can't opine on the rooms in the inn, haven't seen them. 5 pm wine and cheese is a highlight. Breakfast was fine: not a huge number of choices, but it's a small place, that's understandable. What there was was delicious. Pool is clean and quiet. One of the best things about it: after a day of wine touring, you can walk to three delicious restaurants in Glen Ellen for dinner.

Property's Favorite Review
This hotel/bed and breakfast far exceeded my expectations. I booked two rooms for a low-key weekend with three girlfriends. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were so peaceful with zen music playing and small patios to lay outside. The breakfast was wonderful as was the afternoon wine tasting. They had fresh baked cookies daily. Just sayin'. There is a pool and hot tub on this beautiful and relaxing property. This is absolutely the place to stay for a relaxing, low-key, and/or romantic weekend. Definitely not a loud party property though it's certainly fun with the wine tasting. Highly recommend. The cute nearby town also had two great restaurants within walking distance. The hotel was not too expensive when compared to other Sonoma area hotels.

That is a fine location, no doubt. We had a short stopover here on the way back to the airport. The welcome was warm and friendly, we were escorted to our suite. the room was spacious with an atrium, all in Japanese style, which we loved very much. Big bath tube, 2 showers, all was clean and working properly. Happy hour with wine and cheese was fine, the complementary breakfast included scrambled eggs, potatoes, ham, some yoghurt and cereals. Fine, but not extraordinary (and no room service). The whole area is filled with relaxing music (which might not relax you always). We would come back here, suggesting some improvements.

We stayed in two of the Zen Suites and absolutely loved them. The bathroom is a showpiece with the large soaking tub and step-in shower, floor-to-ceiling windows/doors overlooking the Japanese garden between the bathroom and the bedroom/sitting room. It's all very private thanks to strategically-placed fences. Loved the neutral and simple decor, the high ceilings and wood beams. Even though it was very hot during the day, it was cool at night, and I enjoyed a fire in the fireplace in the early morning. Many small touches to appreciate: indoor and outdoor Japanese slippers, complimentary bottle of saki, hot water faucet for tea, luxurious towels and robes. We felt very at home.We enjoyed the nightly wine and cheese tasting, and breakfast was ample and good. (We didn't sample the home-baked cookies - wish we had.) The grounds are lovely and well-maintained, nice pool area. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. Micah is great. Glen Ellen is a funky little California town. There are many wineries close by, and a couple tasting rooms right in town. Several restaurants to choose from, and a market with a good salad bar (they make box lunches for some of the wine tours). So we didn't venture far from town once we got there. We found Gaige House a welcoming and convenient place to stay for exploring some new wineries. Hope to return soon.

Everything was so inviting. The grounds are exceptionally pretty, pool was refreshing, room was large and comfortable, very private. The breakfast was lovely each morning of our three night stay. Plenty of newspapers, great coffee and daily egg dish accompanied by meats, pastries, yogurts, fruit, homemade granola, juices and jams. The afternoon wine was equally nice with good napa wines and a variety of cheeses and other goodies. The back yard was so peaceful overlooking a small creek. The staff anticipated needs and very nice. loved all. thanks
