My wife and I spent a luxurious Christmas with her mother at The Inn at Newport Ranch. I don’t know where to start. The staff, scenery, food and accommodations were all amazing. Everyone working at the ranch — from reception to dining to maintenance were all outstanding, friendly, and went out of their way to create a great experience. The grounds of the ranch were stunning — from pounding ocean surf against towering cliffs to 2,000 acres of sublime redwood forests — with miles of trails connecting all of them. The staff graciously offered us an ATV ride which allowed my mother-in-law to see much of the property and stunning views that would have been completely out of her reach on foot. Our guide hunted for mushrooms and watched for bears in the dense forest while pointing-out a dozen amazing picnic spots from the oceanfront up into the hills. The ranch is only a few minute drive from Fort Bragg (not Newport Beach in SoCal like we thought!) with several yummy restaurants and brewery, but we never left the comfort and convenience of our own hotel dining room for three breakfasts and dinners. The food was delicious, ample, and well served with several wine choices to compliment each meal. I dreamt of the french toast breakfast in front of the fireplace each morning. Finally, our two-bedroom suite was one of the most impressive rooms I have ever visited. At least eight trees (yes, trees!) passed through the suite from below the floor up to the ceiling. The fireplace made a cozy room that we didn’t want to leave. The full kitchen allowed us to bring our own food and drinks. Both rooms had comfy beds and their own small bathrooms. But the icing on the cake was the hot tub right outside our back door overlooking the ocean cliffs and ranch pastures. There were so many activities we never even got to experience! A lovely sauna on the second floor, a large meeting room and spa below our building, whale watching, mushroom foraging trips, picnics, horseback riding and mountain biking mean there is something for everyone at the Inn at Newport Ranch — even if it’s just reading a book in front of one of the four fireplaces or the wrap-around deck! For the record, our stay was very expensive. I believe dinners were $95 per person, and the extra activites all have a fee. I’m guessing that I might sound like someone who works for the ranch, but I assure you that none of us have any connection. We were simply so impressed with the property and had such a wonderful holiday experience that I wanted to make sure others learned about this distinctive getaway.

Property's Favorite Review
This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed at that is closer to home or a "weekend getaway". From the moment you drive in, you see the beautiful landscape and the cows all gathered to welcome you in. Ian, checked me in and told me about the property and showd me around. You can book a room at the main building which feels like a very beautiful lodge. Or you can book one of the rooms outside from a little more privacy. The rooms are very warm and love how it does not feel like a "hotel" but a very nice lodge. Every morning, I was delighted to see DiDi smiling and warm face and the very delicious breakfast. Nothing like sitting outside the benches and tables and enjoying a cup of hot coffee. Lunch and dinner can be ordered at the restaurant but I chose to go into town. The trails and views in the back of thr property towards the water was simply beautiful and amazing! I really enjoyed my visit to this place and left feeling very refreshed and not wanting to leave! I will be back!

The Inn at Newport Ranch is a beautiful property in northern California on the Pacific Ocean with 2000 acres to explore. When we arrived in early afternoon, my wife had a schedule spa treatment, and i went for a walk to explore the vast and beautiful grounds along the Pacific Ocean. Perfect weather for December, mid 50s led to a great afternoon for both of us, as we both ventured out after a very relaxing message. Once we got back to our room, we were able to marvel at the view and the sunset, our room was the Captain's quarter, looking out at the Pacific and a marvelous view of the sun going over the horizon. Cocktails and dinner that night were served next to an indoor fire that roared, and the food and service were magnificent. The next day we had a 4+ hour foraging trip set up after breakfast. Again, the meal and service couldn't be much better. And then we ventured out for 4+ hours with Otis to see all aspects of the property and hunt for mushrooms. Otis could not have been more informative and knowledgeable, and took us throughout the property starting along the pacific and then heading into the mountains where found and learned about mushrooms, picked many, and then along with his wife Felicia, were informed of all the medicinal aspects that mushrooms have. We explored all 7 microclimates during the ATV tour, and towards the end, Otis took us to a landing where we ate lunch and observed the beauty of the property from high above on a most lovely, sunny, and cool day. That night we had mushrooms as part of dinner, and the next morning they were also available for breakfast. INR is a special place with great service, food, and comfortable accomodations. with no TV, it is not for everyone, but it was a superb experience that we'll consider visiting again.

We had the most magical experience here, but the highlight by FAR was the mushroom farm with Felicia and the garden tour with Felicia! She was marvelous and so knowledgeable about every single plant and mushroom. She taught me so much in a short time, and was such a joy to be around and learn from. Her partner Otis is also wonderful and gave us a great Atv tour, and taught us some great history! I would 100% recommend everybody who has an interest in learning about the land use the opportunity to learn from Felicia. I promise you will learn something and be in awe of the amazing vegetable garden.

We spent two nights at the Inn and already cannot wait to return! We packed our visit full of activities yet also had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the spa and incredible dining experience. An absolute highlight was Mushroom Foraging with Otis and Felicia!! We learnt so much about the breathtaking property, it’s history, and so much of what it has to offer! From being amongst the redwoods, learning about mushrooms and the forest, to enjoying lunch high up on the mountain top is something we will never forget! We stayed in The Newport Suite which was so cozy and inspiring to be surrounded by incredible craftsmanship. Every detail of the Inn and our experience was so well thought out and executed by the incredible staff. Thank you! Can’t wait to return!

This was a fantastic trip! The staff and ambience were lovely... the same friendly faces who we saw every morning and evening, the comfortable and homey decor, and fires in the fireplaces. The property itself was stunning. We hiked the ocean cliffs, to tidepool-like areas with seals and large array of birds on display (we never saw a whale but may have apparently smelled "whale breath" one at one point?), and to a small on-property old growth forest. Our "Captain's Room" had a sweeping view directly out onto the grassland and ocean beyond. Breakfast and dinner were consistently terrific, expertly prepared by a former yacht chef with a great deal of fresh and local ingredients while accommodating dietary restrictions. We also had very nice massages at the onsite spa. The biggest highlights were our UTV tours with Otis. On our first full day we reserved the tour to see more of the property and learn about its many ecosystems, history, and current conservation efforts. The tour featured a spectacularly located picnic lunch. We enjoyed that so much that we signed up for the fungus foraging tour the next day, again with Otis and this time also his wife Felicia. We'd never done anything like this before, and my wife traditionally hasn’t even enjoyed eating mushrooms, but loved it! We saw a whole other portion of the 2000+ acre lands, learned a lot about mushrooms and much else, and had a fun excuse to roam the forest with an enthusiastic expert guide. We ended up foraging multiple mushroom species which were then thoughtfully incorporated into that night's dinner (for all of the guests to enjoy) which was a tasty end to the day's excursion. The tour also includes wine pairing with dinner, which was great... but which we'd wished we'd figured out in advance. We had such a good time on the property that by the third day we needed to make a point to leave and see Fort Bragg and Mendocino while still in the area. The only thing we worried about at the start of our stay (staying in one of the three bedrooms located within the main building), but which didn't end up being an issue, was that there wasn't much in the way of noise insulation. Ear plugs might be something to consider for sensitive sleepers... the no young children policy likely helps in this case. The Inn was enjoyable and memorable on several levels. If variety of beautiful natural settings, relaxing and friendly environment, and good food are of interest, highly recommended.

This is the most incredible place I have ever stayed. I brought my best friend here on a surprise trip for her birthday, and it could not have been more perfect. Not only is the location breathtaking from all angles, but the stuff were so warm, kind and attentive we could truly feel that they wanted our experience to be special. We stayed for two nights and did not leave the property. We ate all of our meals there and the food was delicious. One of my favorite memories is taking our coffee out in the mornings to sit on one of many benches overlooking the ocean, watch the birds and admire all of the wildflowers and plant life. There were a handful of other guests during our stay, but there were many moments when it felt like we had the place all to ourselves. We also had a great experience getting facials and massages in the Redwood Spa, and exploring the on-site vegetable/herb garden. By far, the highlight of our trip was the UTV tour with Otis. If you stay here, it is a must. Otis is a lifelong local and has such a wealth of knowledge about the history, flora and fauna in the area. Most importantly he has such a genuine love for the place that was clear through the whole experience. The views on the tour are spectacular and we covered many of the property’s microclimates, our favorite being the forest where we were able to plant baby Redwoods and taste local berries and sorrel. It is hard to describe in words what an amazing time we had. The Inn left a lasting impression on us and I cannot wait to return and experience more of what it has to offer. If you have the opportunity to visit this magical place you will not regret it.

This inn is fantastic. The property is huge and right on the coast with stunning scenery. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Food is excellent. Take the ATV tour they offer of the property. It is well worth it. And you get to plant a baby redwood tree to boot.

The inn was lovely, exactly as cozy inside as it needed to be to counter the cold, windswept landscape. Perfect for long hikes then curling up with a book and a hot chocolate. But the highlight was definitely Otis. He gave what was honestly the best tour I’ve ever experienced- interesting and really funny and wide-ranging. We learned about the land and the trees and the people who lived here and the whoopee houses and the dynamite and the edible plants, but mostly we learned about mushrooms. Walking through the forest with Otis was completely delightful. We’d mushroom hunted before, but it was so great to get his expert guidance and experience his joy in foraging. It was incredibly fun. I’m so grateful the landscape was preserved so beautifully, that we could experience such a gorgeous untouched forest, and for the bounty we took home with us. We loved Otis, but more than that we loved the natural beauty he showed us.

No need to go into how beautiful the view and estate is, everything everyone else is saying is true. You have to visit to feel it for yourself. My husband and I stayed at the Captain's Quarter - very nice room and soft bedding. It's right above the kitchen and communal room - very convenient. Only complain is not very noise proof. Early AM I can hear staff downstairs laughing and chatting serving breakfast. Not a deal breaker but something to note. This review is mainly for Odis, our ATV tour guide - without him I don't think our experience would've been as great. We love a beautiful scenery, but a beautiful scenery alone wouldn't cut it for us. Experience is more important to us than static scenery. If you're He provided a great experience for us and we cannot recommend his tour enough to everyone. Odis is very knowledgeable - nature walking encyclopedia is not a understatement, not to mention what a great nice guy he is. I usually get bored within 2min if the tour person does not grab my attention with info or personality. Our tour was over 2hrs, and I wish it was longer! I was intrigued by so much good info with the beautiful scenery as backdrop - it was perfect. I'd love to come back to take other tours by Odis.
