Had a great 3 nights at Tenaya in January. Beautiful spot in a winter wonderland. Facilities were great and restaurant was surprisingly good food and I thought affordable despite other reviews contracting this. Only thing I would say is the rooms were a little tired but comfortable. Would definitely return and found staff to be friendly and helpful.
Absolutely loved staying in Tenaya lodge in august. Loved the food, location and the rooms . The pool was a bonus after spending a day exploring the NP. The BBQ buffet was a nice touch. Would 100% stay here again given the short drive to Yosemite nation park. The national park itself was incredible
We were trying to plan out an itinerary for out of town family visiting summer of 2023. Reserved some rooms and then the itinerary changed - of course! When we went to cancel the rooms (8 months ahead of scheduled arrival) the reservations clerk said we’d booked non refundable rooms and would loose several hundred dollars. Be very careful if you see a good deal on a room rate - here or really any website! It can come with penalties that will really ruin your day and trip planning !!
I had so much fun with my daughter in the snow at Tenaya Lodge! The staff is so helpful, especially when we put on our snow chains and drove down to the valley. Our room is comfy and well decorated, the deli offered great food choices and we had a super time sitting by the outdoor fireplace. I would recommend staying at Tenaya lodge for anyone in any season!
Loved staying here and using it as a base for Yosemite. The weather wasn't great but who cares when the scenery is this good. The hotel is very grand, but still maintained a very relaxed feel. All staff were friendly and efficient. Loved it.
So many things wrong with our stay and this hotel. I'm not sure where to begin considering all the things my family and I had to endure during the terrible stay. I will NEVER return to this establishment and would advise that you stay away unless you want a vacation from hell. Let's just say this was the worst New Year's trip we have experienced, and we ALWAYS travel for the holidays. I'm aware that hotels are super busy during this time as they tend to get booked to max capacity, but the things we experienced were unacceptable. We booked 5 different rooms for 5 families and ALL the rooms had issues. My review covers our stay which was from 12/30/22-1/02/2023. Rooms: Upon entry to our rooms, we noticed that ALL the rooms were leaking, and the carpets were soaking wet. Since the hotel was sold out, the most they could do was offer us a 50% discount for ONE night. I don't even want to think about what sort of mold exists in the rooms. Imagine the carpet being soaking wet due to the rain and your constantly worried that you or your child may step on that part of the carpet. For all 5 rooms, the bathroom doors didn't properly close, so it made it impossible for any privacy in the restroom. The TVs were not working in all 5 rooms. The heater unit in 2 of the 5 rooms were not working. Imagine being in a hotel room with the weather at 40 degrees with NON-working heaters! We had to call their engineer to come and fix the heater units. Total inconvenience, especially with a toddler. Food: The hotel has ONE restaurant which serves overpriced food that tastes like something you picked up from a drive-thru. Also, the restaurant closes at 10pm, making it impossible to have a late-night snack. The pizza restaurant (Timberwolf Pizzeria) is only open after 5:00pm. We were unable to eat there because NOBODY would respond via phone to help us place a phone order. I tried for 1 hour to reach someone at the restaurant to place an order but was unsuccessful and finally gave up. For a hotel that has hundreds of rooms, they should consider adding MULTIPLE restaurants/food options to ensure that guests have decent meals. The nearest restaurant OUTSIDE of this hotel is about 35 minutes away (one-way). The TVs at the restaurant were also not working and during our entire stay had a blue "No Signal" image. They couldn't even show basic tv with the news! Staff: The staff working at Tenaya need to go through a thorough training around customer service and hospitality. Anytime we asked a staff member a question the response we would receive is “I don’t know.” That was it. They wouldn’t offer a solution or try to figure out the response. They didn’t know how to order room service or when their restaurants closed/open. These are simple questions that hotel staff must be able to provide answers for. There was 0 consistency with staff and their responses. At the restaurant we asked to be seated at the high-top tables and the hostess said that children are not allowed in that area. However, the previous day both for lunch and dinner we sat there, and our children were with us. It was nearly impossible to reach ANYONE in the front desk from your room. The calls would never be answered and if they were it would be the operator who was very unhelpful. New Year's Night: The New Year’s night was the last straw for me and my family. We opted out of their “Casino Royale” Dinner as it was extremely expensive $300 per person, and it didn’t include much. Even on New Year’s night, their only restaurant closed at 10:00pm. There was a DJ in the lobby who left at 9:15pm. Everyone who did not attend the “Casino Royale” dinner sat around the lobby extremely upset and disappointed. The hotel provided NOTHING to their guests to ring in the New Year. No music, no party blowers or hats, no champagne, NOTHING. It was either paying the $300 dinner fee or NOTHING. Luckily, we brought a small speaker and played music for everyone. At the end of the night folks around us thanked us for providing music and snacks. This hotel has unprofessional and clueless staff, terrible service, and outdated/old rooms. They need a new management team who can help their staff and in return provide better service to their guests. I let the hotel staff know early on about my experience and nobody was apologetic. Save your money and time. Avoid this hotel.…
Highly disappointed. The weather played a part into the dissatisfied experience but it was not entirely mother natures fault why we had a negative experience. We payed an exorbitant amount for the cabins over NYE and we’re disappointed by the actual layout & size of the rooms. The back patio was only accessible by going through the back bedroom. The living space would be fine for 2 maybe 3 but 4 people seemed a bit crowded. The TV did not work while there and while much of the resort activities were off it would had been nice to at least have that. There is no room service to cabins and there is a shuttle that we were told picks you up from cabins, you have to go to the delegated spot to be picked up. That might work for cabins close to it but if it’s pouring that’s not fun making the trek over there. The lodge its self is whatever. Nothing great. The staff we came into co tact with at every turn were rude. The concierge especially was rude which googled my mind because you’re in customer relations. He was rude and condescending and had an arrogance to him. Very unpleasant interaction. Was told ice skating along with a movie was only activity for the day and went to ice skating during the said time window and nothing. No ice skating. All in all I’d pass this spot for another. Perhaps the summer is a different experience. ( you’re about and hour + to Yosemite village, badger pass too FYI)…
Went to Tenaya for the first time since it was operated by Deleware North Companies and the holiday experience was not the event I was hoping for. While the location is convenient to the park the beds were atrocious and made for a great deterrent to sleeping in.
We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at the hotel. We could not have asked for a more wonderful day we spent there. The staff were wonderful. We ate at the Jackalope restaurant. Kat was so helpful in making sure we could get a reservation for this special celebration. Our table was in front of a lovely warm fire and seemed to have been chosen specifically for our celebration. We were surprised by our lovely room, I think it was an upgrade, with rose petals and hershey kisses and by a wonderful welcome tray of beautiful fruits, chocolate covered strawberries and our favorite drinks as we do not drink champagne. We really appreciated the attention to detail and the warm smiles of the housekeeping staff as you walked in the hallways. Our servers in the restaurant were so warm and welcoming and we felt very spoilt by their wonderful service. All in all the staff made sure our special celebration was magical. Thank you.…
After reading the reviews, decided to give Tenaya a chance. Most were either amazing or bad and that usually means you’re taking a chance. After staying here, I think I figured it out. In the end, it has to do with price point and expectations. We stayed for the Christmas weekend and the rate was $800 per night for a 2 bedroom cabin. It would have been cheaper to stay at the Ahwahnee, and after eating dinner there would probably have choose that over Tenaya for this trip. Tenaya isn’t by any of the major attractions and over an hour from El Capitan. Ahwahnee is in the park by all the major sites. With that said in 3 weeks we are planning on coming back to Yosemite and will definitely return to Tenaya. Why? We liked it here, will only be playing in the snow AND for the same 2 bedroom cabin it will be less than $400 per night. For $800 this place is +-. The +, service is great, love having our own cabin, food is reasonable, the surroundings are amazing. The -, the shower is run down, if you touch the grout line mud appears. The cabin itself is newer but the walls are damaged. It smells like wet dog, they do use a Fabreeze type spray to hide it but it comes back in a few hours. House keeping was nice and gave us the spray bottle. For 3 days it was $2400, same cabin, same time frame we will be paying $1134 in a couple weeks. For less then $400 this place is a steal. I hope this clears up why some people are like “never again” and some people are “love this place”. Personally, I like this place and if your thinking about booking it I definitely would. If you book it for $400 you’ll love it, if you book for $800 think of it like a $400 a night place and you will be fine!…
