Detailed Reviews
What a solid experience. We originally booked a stay at Tenaya Lodge but TL cancelled our reservation due to COVID restrictions (the whole hotel was closed). Scrambling to find a new option for our trip to Yosemite, I stumbled upon this Inn. The pricing was excellent and the ambiance was also great! It’s a quiet little B&B that I would recommend anyone stay at. The overall vibe was an old school cabin that belongs in a “All Things Cozy” publication.
Shoutout to the staff who were delightful and happy to explain any questions we had. We purchased a local wine that was on display and the woman behind the desk gave us glasses and a corkscrew to take back to our room. I would stay there again no doubt!
Only detractors:
Room 33 - weak wifi signal that was stronger or weaker depending on the location you sat in the room. The wifi also was patchy where our phones would hop on and off the network.
The sheets gave my GF’s arms some rashes. It might be the detergent (we’re still trying to figure it out).
The room had some things that made us think it may not have been cleaned very well. We found a jello wrapper under the bed and one of the glasses in the bathroom was dirty.

This little inn was less than some of the other places, but it is well worth it.
The staff was super friendly and helpful. They literally were fantastic. They made our stay a relaxing time.
We stayed in a king room. The room was clean and well furnished. There was ample hot water. There is a wall a/c and heater unit that kept us toasty when it was 35 outside.
The WiFi was out when we visited and we had no cellphone service, but the hotel has satellite tv. Each room has a mini fridge, there is a microwave in the lobby.
The gift store is more of a snack food shop during the season that we visited, but it was well stocked. The restaurant was closed during the week as we were there during a slow period, but a basic breakfast is served in the lobby. (Cereal, oatmeal packets, danish, coffee or tea.)
Town is not terribly close, about 20 minutes down the road, but there are ample choices for dinner there.
Good views, friendly staff, cats allowed, it suited us. We will be back to stay again.
This place is charming and peaceful. It was just what we needed in a room.

Thank you for your review and your comments on the friendly staff for we have been known to have the friendliest staff in the Yosemite area. We work very hard to have a clean and comfortable room for all of our valued guests and all of our rooms have a balcony overlooking the forests or the mountains of Yosemite. Please return again and enjoy our peaceful hotel and our wonderful on site restaurant.

We loved this property! We stayed in a creekside view room and could not have been more pleased. Sure, the rooms could be updated, but it was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Fabulous views from the deck, very peaceful experience. While the restaurant is closed, they do offer a delicious to go breakfast each morning (for an additional fee) Each employee I interacted with was exceptionally helpful, kind and genuinely seemed glad to have us there. Plus, it's pet friendly! Perfect location to Yosemite's south entrance. We will DEFINITELY go again!

I chose this property since small is smart during a pandemic and it was near the park. My check in was quick and friendly once they got past the guests in front of me with a myriad of questions. Some would describe this hotel as quaint and rustic but to me it was a small room in dire need of renovation. The bed was too soft for my taste and would creak whenever you roll over. The A/C was noisy and the thermostat was a bit wonky and it will infringe on your moment of peace sitting on the front deck. The hot water in the tiny shower was a bit here and there too. There was only one set of towels in the room but the front desk had more available. There is no maid service until check out. Wifi is almost non-existent and my T-mobile cell reception didn't work for me either.
Unfortunately the restaurant is closed and the only place to eat nearby is the Tenaya Lodge which has a terrific turkey sandwich. Coffee in the room was crappy so I went to reception where they said the maker there was off limits and wasn't Covid friendly making me wonder why it was even there. They offered hard boiled eggs and apple sauce for breakfast take-away which I found off putting. Morning of departure I was awakened by the maid at 8 am. I think they should know if you've checked out yet. I guess what you're paying so much money for is the convenient location if you want to spend more than a day near the park. It is certainly over priced otherwise.

Please only read recent reviews. This place used to be good but has severely deteriorated. It is tired and in need of a lot of investment. Rustic granny chic has its place but not if she’s forgotten to dust or maintain the property. The furnishings are now just old. The room was large with lots of mismatched furniture and old rugs. There’s was lots of dust and the coffee machine was dirty inside and out.
The bathroom needed a major refurb. The bath was old, rusty around the plug and had mould around the mastic. The shower screen was from the 1980s, very old and worn. The toilet set was loose. The hot water took 5 minutes to come through and then there was nothing between scalding or freezing. The staff tried to fix it but couldn’t. They also said no one else had experienced issues with the water but reading other reviews I now know others had found the same so I feel they were lying to us. The restaurant was also closed and we were given different reason from 2 members of staff. The breakfast on offer at extra cost is an inedible microwave sandwich.
The grounds and the pool area were neglected and in poor condition.
We paid $300 per night and they did not even make the beds or empty the trash. For this money stay in Oakhurst or Tenaya Lodge.
Good points - tv and Wi-Fi was good. Bed was comfortable and there eas was a large fridge.

It was very nice to find the Narrow Gauge Inn in operation given the low season timing along with the virus restrictions they must follow. The inn is in a great location while my room was very nice and quite cozy. Though the bar and restaurant were not being operated there were snacks and frozen meals available in the lobby along with beer and wine that you may take to your room.

The photos in the website absolutely do NOT reflect reality. If it looked like photos, it would be cute.
Responsiveness of staff was good.
However, it looks shabby. Simple cosmetic changes would go a long way. There was no ice, no gravy. Jalapeños were bad. A big one — there was NO handicap parking at either level of premises.
Also in the restaurant my husband has to send his beef back as he requested medium. When it came out, it was not much improved.
The room has a disgusting broken floor lamp and a welcome mat that was long past its day. For almost $300 a night!!! Really? We were needing to stay outside the park. The location was way better than Oakhurst. But this was no value for the price paid.
The place totally needs refurbishment.
The railroad premises next door was so much better maintained.

Sure, if you want a massage, pool, spa and all the other amenities of a luxury hotel before you head off to nature, then the place up the road is for you. But if you want to support a quaint local business with super nice, attentive staff at an affordable price right at the front door of Yosemite, then Narrow Gauge might be your place. Could it be updated? Yeah sure. But my room was more than fine. And I didn't venture to Yosemite to spend my day at a hotel anyway. I would definitely stay there again.

The location is perfect, but inn is poorly maintained
Found leftover packaging under the beds covered in dust. Sunbeds at the pool as well as all other outdoor furniture were too filthy to use. The balcony was too small for 4 people- with a table fit only as firewood

The hotel was in a perfect location just 10 minutes drive south of the south entrance to Yosemite. It’s roughly an hour to the Yosemite Valley at the centre of the park without traffic which we were lucky to avoid mid-week. It’s a lovely location and is very peaceful (unless you have a noisy neighbour as you can hear everything through thin walls). It is like stepping back in time in a nice way re how the hotel looks, particularly the entrance and restaurant but could do with some refurbishment in the rooms. They were quite gloomy with low light and the furniture is all dated and not in a good way. We had a squeaky bathroom door that you had to yank open etc. If all you’re looking for is a place to rest your head after a days exploring this is certainly more comfortable than camping in the park!

Hello,
We apologize for the delay in our response and any inconvenience this may have caused you, but you can now call our lodge at 559-683-7720. We just received power access as of late this Saturday afternoon and we are now in operation mode. Not sure, if you have been informed by now, but unfortunately we had a massive Fire around the area and had to evacuate the lodge and restaurant in less than two minutes, therefore we were not able to access our computer or contact our guest and due to power outages it hindered our ability to access remotely as well to keep our guest informed of the situation that had taken place. However, please do contact us if you have any further questions.
Thanks,
Narrow Gauge Inn Management.
There are restaurants at the hotel to the north about 10 mins drive and restaurants 10mins to the South. Sorry, I don't recall the names but I did review them both if you look at my reviews.
Hi, At this time we do not have a set opening date. We project the first part of May. Please reach back to us to confirm. There are restaurants 2 miles north of us and many nice choices in the town of Oakhurst as well, if ours is not open during your stay with us.
Sink, Toilet and Shower are all in the same room. Private.
