Overnight stay in this lovely and clean B&B. Stairs to rooms are very steep and bathrooms have clawfoot tubs. Very quiet & wonderful library/sitting room. Beautiful gardens and plenty of parking. Tea & homemade cookies on arrival & breakfast at 8 AM. Charming town and close to beach.

I came to Ferndale for the finale of the Kinetic Art Race. Even though I do not live far away I thought it best to get a room for the evening. Despite a few bad reviews, I chose the Shaw House Inn and I'm glad I did. Check in went very smoothly even though there were internet problems and i... More

Booked a room here through hotels.com and we were working in the area so I called in the early afternoon to let them know we would be arriving a little late only to be told "Oh no! You can't have that room, I already rented it to someone else and I'm going to reject your reservation" After I already had... More

Accidentally overslept after a terrible night sleep in a very uncomfortable bed. The owner woke us up by banging angrily on the door and curtly informed us we had 15 minutes to be out of her house. I have never experienced such rudeness from someone who works in the hospitality industry. The house was tired and old. When visiting the bathroom... More

Built by Ferndale's founder, this 1850s house has good bones but is a bit shabby. Set back from the road in an overgrown, old-fashioned garden, it was covered with cobwebs outside and a riot of patterns in. We'd reserved the master bedroom, which had a wonderful wood-panelled ceiling with lots of angles and a private bath that was less charming... More

This is a very nice B&B. Ferndale itself is frozen in time in the late 1880s and this place lets you stay in a charming period place from that era. A few reviews have mentioned that some maintenance and refreshing is needed, and yes, we would agree, but there was nothing to take away from the nice experience. If you... More

The Shaw House is tired, worn and badly in need of renovation. My room was small and, as I said, badly in need of renovation. The bath was dated and, although dedicated for my use, was located down a hallway and not even close to my room. Also, the bath had no overhead shower, hand held only. Ferndale has many... More

This is a Victorian home, the one that actually started Ferndale. Originally Shaw built his home to start Ferndale, and to make it a town it was originally also the local court house and post office. Now there's wonderful old rooms with original antique furniture. The Inn Keeper makes a nice breakfast and has snacks during the day. One thing... More

My friends and I stayed in two rooms at the Shaw House and both were very clean and well appointed with antiques as one would expect in a mid-1800's B&B. The grounds were nice and the house set back from the main road. Ferndale is a small Old West town so there was no issue with noise anyway. The bathrooms... More

We stayed at the Shaw House for one night. There are definitely both pros and cons here. The house is charming, especially if you like "period" Victorian design. They are also ok with dogs, which is rare for a nice B&B. There is a cozy sitting room and a library to explore. They're also right in the center of Ferndale,... More
