What a hidden gem. Loved the location on the river surrounded by redwoods. Also, beautiful property, with lots of ferns, flowers, and even fruit trees. 2 bdrm cottage was reasonable. Very close to Felton shops, redwood park, and short drive to the beach. Will definitely be back!

We had a misfortune of staying at this place during our trip to Northern California in August 2021. It was such a disappointment! I don’t even know where to start with the list of issues. I will just list them in no particular order: - the room was tiny, dark, dingy and has an moldy and stuffy smell to it the entire time we were there. The had to keep the windows open to be able to sleep - the shower had black mold in it and was so tiny that there was barely room to stand up inside it, forget it if you want to bend down to wash your legs -the shower head was broken and the water was spaying in the wrong direction and made a puddle outside the shower - the fridge was in very small and broken so our food kept falling out and there was no ice on property - there is no dog policy for this property, but the owners had a dog that kept barking late at night and early in the morning as they kept it outside and the dig barked at anything that moved - the cabin we were in is located next to the shed and it was very noisy place that made it difficult to relax - on their website they promised blackout drapes and free toiletries for the bathroom- none of the existing. Drapes were dirty and see through which made it difficult to sleep and forget the free toiletries. - towels in the bathroom were VERY old and no longer white due to wear. - the dishes and silverware in the kitchen were mismatched, chipped and very old as were pots and pans. I don’t even want to remember the drinking glasses. - on top of that they required guests to empty trash and wash dishes and change their own linens or there would be an additional charge The only thing that was good was location- but it has nothing to do with anything human made. The redwoods are beautiful and the little river that this dump overlooks made the stay bearable. Also by the time we checked in there was nothing else available as it was the busy season. Please do not buy the hype and the promises that their website makes, this is not a Resort, at most this place is a motel with a good location.

We stayed in a small house close to the river. We found everything we were looking for: quiet place in the woods, to escape, relax and enjoy the nature. The house was clean, surrounded with Sequoias and you could hear the river floating in the silence, sitting on the cozy porch. Definitely recommend this place to those, who are looking for a relaxing nature escape.

Great location! Really close to state parks and the surrounding area is simply stunning! Only 15 mins from Santa Cruz and restaurants, and good selection of places for take out in local Felton. Resort is nestled amongst redwoods, and the grounds are immaculate. The accommodation itself, however, could do with an update. Old bedding, and stains on sheets. Rooms had a slight musty smell to them too. Would be a great stay if they did a few updates.

My husband and I stayed here while we were visiting my daughter in Santa Cruz and I cannot fully explain how perfect it was! From the moment we drove in, the 3 nights we stayed until we were sad to leave, everything about it was more than we could have asked for.

Clean and affordable. Basic but sufficient. Sustainable practices. Heavenly location and setting. Will definitely come back again. Don't miss the Roaring Camp which is literally at the back of the facility. From Google Map, I think one can hike into the park.

The only thing that doesn’t make Fern River excellent is the fact that if you’ve forgotten to buy coffee for tomorrow morning, you need to get back in the car. Apart from that, this is a wonderful place to just sit. And be. And gaze up at the Redwoods that surround you. And when you’ve had enough, go & be cozy in your wooden cabin.

Stayed here for one night on our journey South from San Francisco to L.A. The price we paid may have been inflated due to MLK holiday but it didn't seem like great value for money. The manager was friendly and welcoming but the cabin was very dated and not particularly comfortable. We've had much better accommodation for less $ later on this trip. On the plus side, the surrounding woodlands are absolutely beautiful and this place is very well located for hiking. Nearby Felton is also well provisioned with restaurants etc.

I rented a cabin for 2 nights in advance . When i arrived, there was a smell in the cabin. I was thinking i would get use to it. But no....the persons before me cooked a fish the night before. The smell was horrible...a mix of fish and cigarettes. Later in the evening ,i found 3 air fresheners in the room. I had a terrible night. The next morning, there was no-one in the office...she was late...it was suppose to open at 9. I had to go. Joe, the andy man told me as a "joke" "we should bomb the place" They knew there was a problem with the room and they rented it anyway...they didn't care. When a called to cancel my second night, she said she would check with the owner and she never called me back....they don't care...they don't give a ....

I wouldn't call the establishment a lodge, as there is no lodge. A number of old, outdated cabins that need a lot of tlc. Jason, our conseirge, jack of all trades, was very helpful in getting us situated, as PG&E had turned off the power. Heat was provided by old wall type gas heaters. All was somewhat rustic and out of the 50's or 60's. Beautiful area. If we visited again would find a place a little more modern Was fun.
