"PORTARI HOUSES" is a country villa - guesthouse that offers a different vacation philosophy: warm hospitality in picturesque houses that provide the quality services of a hotel, while at the same time warm, personal attention is ensured by the hosts. The villa-guesthouse stands out for its unique interior design, its traditional architecture and its location in the Medieval settlement of Aroniadika on the seducing island of Kithira – an ideal setting for a relaxed and private vacation. The land where the Portari Houses are found extends over half an acre, complete with a barbeque pit, flowers, herbs and a vegetable garden. The complex is made up of three separate dwellings: Portari House I, a two story residence (110 sq.m.), Portari House II (80 sq.m.) and Portari House III (60 sq.m.) single level. The Cottage (60 sq.m.), a restored traditional home is also for rent.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed one week in the cottage in the village of Aroniadika which is in the center of the island. Aroniadika is the perfect location for exploring the entire island; it is just a short drive to all the villages, beaches and sites. The cottage is located on the perimeter of the village with easy parking right off the main road to the airport and the port, and is located 10 meters from the parking area--perfect! The cottage itself is fantastic--one of the nicest places we have rented in 10 years of traveling to Europe. The cottage has a fully stocked kitchen including a Nespresso machine and endless capsules of coffee. From the roof top terrace one can see over the water to Neapolis and the Mani. The beds are very comfortable and everything is spotlessly clean.
The owner showed us the Portari Villas and they are also beautiful, spacious and have a wonderful view over the countryside to the sea. I highly recommend staying in either the villas or the cottage.....

I've stayed at the portari houses for 10days in July of 2011 and the only thing that I can say is that it felt like home!
The rooms were spacious,VERY clean and equipped with everything that you might need
The island is amazing and just perfect for relaxing vacations
Unfortunately I just found out that the best tavern ''Maria'' was shut down :(
I will definitely go back !!!!

This is an excellent, wonderful, great place. The taste of the decoration is excellent and the restoration work is great. It's simplicity is unique. Everything is so neat and tight. The house has all the amenities needed and even more. The place is extremely clean and tight and everything is top quality.
It is a perfect place for a couple or a family with young kids. It is a quiet place and is ideal for relaxing. The only think this great place is missing is view. It is mostly surrounded by other wonderful old renovated houses. It is located in the middle of the island in the old town of Aroniadica. It is ideal for visiting and exploring the whole island since it is in the center of it.
Mrs evmorfia (the owner) is the most kind and sweet person. She is there at you disposal at all times . She will make sure that you have the best possible service. She oversees cleaning herself everyday as well as whatever the house might need, just to make sure her guests, get the best she can give. This place is very very nice!

We stayed 8 days in Portari during the 2nd half of May 2013. We can only warmly recommend the houses as well as the island. The Portari houses are a quite outstanding blend of traditional architecture and a very tasteful and modern interior decoration surrounded by a lovely garden (the beautiful and very professional photos are no exaggeration, the place is like on the pictures). The houses are located at the outskirts of a small village - very quiet and unspoiled. The owner (Morfia) is a very nice lady trying to accomodate any request you might have.
We admit that until recently we knew nothing about Kythira although we have travelled extensively in Greece. If you prefer places off the beaten tourist track then this is the place to go. The island is surprisingly diverse and there are a lot of different landscapes to discover.
Kythira is a wonderful place for hiking (only in spring and fall) which is the best way to discover the place. You will find a hiking guide in the local bookstores with 32 different hikes between 2 and 8 hours. Have a look at http://www.kytherahiking.com
We will definitely come back one day,
Karin and Markus, Geneva, CH

Five lovely days at the end of June were enough to simply adore the place. We stayed at the Megali Kamara and some other friends stayed at the Dipato (two storey).
Arriving there after a loooong boat journey from Piraeus, we were welcomed (at 2am!) by the owner, Evmorfia, who acted as if it were 5 in the afternoon.
The first pleasant surprise was the houses' surroundings. A lovely garden, warmly lit up, night scents from a variety of herbs and flowers, and refreshments were thre for us. We chatted as long as we could keep our eyes open and then we just slept the night away.
The next morning, stretching out of our beds, we wanted to find our way around the house's kitchen. We could not believe our eyes. Everything - and much more - that we needed, was there: coffee machines, cookies, local rusks (paximadia), and a fully equipped kitchen did not betray our expectations.
Our breakfast was taking place either inside or outside, at a well-shaded area of the garden.
Ooops forgot to tell you the important piece of info: the mattresses unfortunately can not be taken back home... that is what you will think of them every time you will get out of bed. They are the best mattresses I have ever slept on. Evmorfia has made the perfect choice.
The cupboards are big and smell of lavender and the amenities are so practical.
The living room is spacious, well and naturally air-conditioned, and even though we were ladies just under our 50's (and it can feel hot sometimes), we never felt uncomfortable,
it is immaculately clean, everything is new, the linens were fresh and crispy and Evmorfia was always available to meet our needs.
We regretted that we did not BarBQ but it is not a small island and even if Portari is ideally situated at its center, which saves time and money from the car trips, the island offers so many sites to see that time was just not enough.
We just loved the place and this is why, just now, we (as a family this time) are packing our suitcases to visit the place for a second time this year.
In all fairness, the money reflect the value and we're looking forward to collect more memories which we shall undoubtedly treasure!!!

Portari is a brand new and really well made property. Its house is individual and a perfect choice for either couples or families. It feels like home and even better than that. Each house has a different design and the traditional architecture is perfectly matched with the modern furniture in the interiors. Morfia, which is the lady that owns the property is really friendly and generous to guests. I have visited many greek islands but it is the first time I am sο satisfied with the residency. We stayed there last summer (2011) and I would totally suggest it. The only negative is that the view from the houses is not very interesting. Also I just have to add that Kithira is probably an island for people around 30 or families. There are not many places to go for such a big island and no nightlife. If these houses were not so good we would definitely be bored after three days. It is a very peaceful island but I guess not what people in their 20s would choose. Also hiring a car is a must, either wise there is no place to go.

Come to Kythira if you love nature, mediterranean food and can't never have enough sea views. The island has some spectacular wild beaches, stunning views of the Peloponnese and a changing landscape. We fell for the Kythira the moment we stepped out of the airplane.
Portari houses are located in a nice traditional village, right in the middle of the island which makes it an unbeatable place to explore the island. Airy rooms, whitewashed walls, polished concrete counters in the bathroom and kitchen and white wood windows that open to a vegetables garden. Morfia is a great hostess, she made us feel at home and shared with us some of her favs places in the island. Enjoy your stay and let the island surprise you.

My wife and I spent five nights at the Portari houses from 8th September 2012....wow..! We own a house on another Greek island and now aspire to the wonderful levels of finishes here..Evmorfia,the owner,is very helpful and clearly wants everyone to enjoy their time here.
The views all around are stunning ; either across open countryside or towards the sea. Another real plus for my wife and I is that you can help yourself from the vegetable garden..we 'stayed in ' a couple of nights and ate really well with all local produce!
In terms of location the Portari Houses are ideal with the farthest point in any direction about a 30 minute drive. A car on Kithera is essential if you want to get the most out of your trip and to visit some of the more remote beaches and tavernas in nearby villages. Very relaxing...

A charming and aesthetically very pleasing 3-house complex with clean lines and modern design but in keeping with the island's architecture, it has well equipped kitchens, fine linen, comfortable mattresses and fluffy pillows, guaranteeing quiet relaxation with views over the the hills and nearby villages. A large shaded veranda, a vegetable garden from where you can pick your own vegetables and a barbecue area add to the amenities. Satellite TV, DVD player, cable internet and a mini-stereo system just might keep you in on the odd night from visiting any of the 40+ villages of this beautiful island. The owner is extremely helpful and eco-conscious with recycling bins available. The four of us stayed at the two-storey house for 10 days, the only gripe might have been the absence of air conditioning but the house was always cool despite 35oC outside temperatures and the overhead large but extremely quiet ceiling fans in the bedrooms even at the lowest setting sent a soothing breeze. The 100m narrow road to it might prove a challenge to some drivers but the owner will happily meet you at the front and load your luggage onto her car before driving to the door. It is not cheap but it is worth every penny.

+1
Portari Houses is a magic place located in a strategic place to visit the entire island of Kythira.
The level of attention of one of the dearest hosts that can be found, Morfia, is truly uncommon; apartments are perfectly clean and fully equipped with everything you need to call them home during your stay.
The taste for the decorations, the forniture and the materials is absolutely spot on. The garden, with accurate choice of plants and herbs, is also a key ingredient of the entire recipe.
Morfia, great job with everything and thanks for making our week in Kythira a really special one.
