Four of us came up from Mendocino for 3 nights and stayed at the Inn on the second floor. We chose (as advertised) the "really nice rooms" and they were large and tastefully appointed. Soft towels, plushy robes and room furniture to relax in... We had car problems on 101 and when we arrived all stressed out an hour or so before check-in, we asked if we could drop off our luggage and go find the car dealer...Joaquin was super accommodating for which we were grateful. And yes, car was okay. The Inn serves a pretty decent hotel breakfast that is complimentary with the room - lots of fruit/yogurt, pastries, muffins, avocado toast (very good), omelettes/eggs benedict, coffee, etc. Guests also receive a complimentary glass of wine or beer at the bar. The building has very tall ceilings - the lobby is airy and has a friendly lodge feeling...they have a sweet cosy bar...all staff was attentive. The only problem was our misunderstanding when one's room is serviced. The info sheet says rooms will be serviced mid-day, unless the do-not-disturb tag is on the door. So I didn't put the tag on (wishing for a made bed, some water and a towel) but when we came back after a day's outing, that hadn't happened. The front desk person told me that I needed to put the 'service requested' tag on the door (the reverse side). So, no problem and I understood and he nicely took care of our needs...the next day, I put the tag on and received 2 towels but no water and no made bed. Perhaps it's because i straightened our bed before heading out and maybe that means 'it doesn't need any attention'.... anyway, none of this matters in the least really. Just if you do stay at this lovely hotel, be sure to understand the etiquette for servicing the room to avoid confusion. Unfortunately, Highway 101 goes right through town and it is two blocks up from the Inn, so noise level is pronounced in morning and afternoon hours. But hey....aren't you out and about the Old Town or strolling around the peaceful Arcata Marsh?

We have nothing but accolades to share for our stay at the Carter House Inn. We were celebrating our anniversary and arrived to champagne on ice in our suite. I would have been just as content to spend much more time enjoying our room. The bed was very comfortable as was the temperature of the room. We had a nice gas fireplace that didn’t get utilized only due to weather not necessitating a need for it. In addition to the Inn the facility offers rooms in a cottage and a B&B across the street. This historic inn is very walkable to the waterfront, shopping, and many restaurants. The Inn offers free breakfast and in the evening a complimentary glass of wine. We enjoyed chatting with the staff during check in and while enjoying our evening glass of wine. We had read rave reviews about their restaurant but sadly it hasn’t yet reopened due to staffing needs. Hopefully they will reopen in the future as well do we hope to return for another stay at this wonderful Inn.

What an amazing place! I am a world traveler. I wish I had more than one day/night to enjoy the ambience, room and breakfast!! The breakfast is better than you can imagine and it comes free with the room. The bar is exceptional. The room with the softest sheets guaranteeing a beautiful sleep. Our room was huge with fireplace, enormous jacuzzi, king bed sitting area in front of fireplace. I hope to travel back to Eureka just to stay in Carter House Inn!!

Worth the drive. The food is stellar. 301 is one to recommend. The service was wonderful. Diane, Joaquin, and Troy were wonderful and attentive during our stay. We had questions, they had answers. We asked for recommendation and they were eager to provide options making our stay a memorable one. Troy’s wine cellar is one to raid. Everybody on staff was friendly and ready to help from their Happy Hour to breakfast the morning after. The go to place to stay when coming to Eureka.

We had stayed here years ago and decided to make it our place for a one night stay in Eureka during a road trip to the Oregon coast, this time with our dog along. The Carter House, and Eureka, are as charming as ever. Staff at the Inn are friendly and helpful. Our room was large and comfortable. The location is perfect, with easy walking access to the shops and restaurants in Old Town. The included breakfast of fruit, veggie omelettes, and fresh muffins is a nice bonus. Our only regret is that this time we only had a one night’s stay in Eureka to enjoy the Carter House. Next time…

We really enjoyed our stay at the Carter House. The staff was very friendly and the complimentary wine and breakfast were very good. We enjoyed the location, and took several walks to the waterfront and old Eureka. The Victorian houses in the area are stunning. Our room was nice and had lovely amenities (robes, lush towels, etc). Would definitely stay here again.

Carter House Inn is a lovely small hotel. The management and staff all went out of their way to make our stay perfect. It has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere with a a welcome drink on arrival and a complimentary breakfast. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We had 3 rooms for our group and were happy with them all. I highly recommend staying here.

We stayed one night but wished it had been more. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome, the room was very nice, and the rate included a wine reception in the afternoon plus breakfast, both of which were first rate. Highly recommend.

Our stay was enhanced by the wonderful breakfasts we had that came with the price of the room. But the bar food was the best. The hamburger was outstanding, as well as the Bolognese Fries. The two free drinks were excellent choices of alcohol.

This is a lovely hotel. It has a proper upmarket hotel feel to it. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. The room was delightful, spacious, and clean. The bathroom was better than most. Sarah checked us in, she greeted us like we were her friends. The whole look and feel of this hotel were pleasant. So much so that we decided not to go out for dinner but to stay around the hotel instead.
