Overlooking Humboldt Bay in the Historic District of Eureka, California, our newly updated, family owned and operated boutique Inn is housed in the elegant and intriguing Historic Eagle House Victorian (est. 1888). Once inside, you will be welcomed with a friendly smile and enchanted by the Old World feel. Our twenty-three unique and immaculately dressed guests rooms provide all you need for a restful and relaxing get away. Dine in our hotel library bar, Phatsy Kline's Parlor Lounge, located right downstairs off of our grand theater ballroom. Phatsy's offers tapas style small plates and delicious homemade desserts. A second restaurant, Tavern 1888, is opening in September 2022 and will be serving up “Elevated Coastal Cuisine”. Both Phatsy’s & Tavern 1888 specialize in craft cocktails, local wines, beers and ciders as well as a fine selection of organic coffee and tea. Both in-house restaurants take pride in sharing a menu that is house made, market fresh, locally sourced and organic whenever possible. The Historic Eagle House is just a minutes stroll to local boutique shops & other decadent restaurants and just a few minutes drive to the Redwood forests and the Pacific Ocean!

The Inn at 2nd & C receives mixed reviews; its historic allure and well-maintained cleanliness are highlights for guests, with many appreciating the unique Victorian decor and spacious rooms. However, the value is called into question by some due to booking policy issues. While the staff is often commended for their friendliness, service can be hit-or-miss.
While the ambiance is generally enjoyed, suggested improvements include additional ice machines and fridges. Some guests also note the charming quirk of uneven floors and light nuisances.

It is converted from a 1888 theater building, The location is good, very convenient for dinner and street walking at night. The room is relatively large but in general the rooms are dark and feels high humidity. The breakfast is cold and healthy and simple. The restaurant and bar on site are all ok.

What a cool historic building renovated to showcase a hip and chic vibe. We chose this hotel because it's locally owned and right across from the bay. Our room had some of the most incredible pieces of antique furniture I've ever seen and the bed and pillows were the comfiest of any hotel I've stayed in. I loved the high end bath products and that they weren't in little throw away containers. You could tell the owners pay close attention to little details, making this place a great boutique Inn to check out when traveling up or down the coast. We ate at the hotel's own restaurant called Phatsy Kline's and we were so glad that we did. The food and drinks were some of the best we've had on our trip! We enjoyed our meal in their huge and beautifully decorated ballroom and felt like we had teleported back in time. The Inn is in walking distance to lots of shops and other restaurants in old town but honestly, you could stay inside this building and have everything you need for a great and "wow" experience!

Hello, Thank you so much for your kind words and praise. Our family and staff have worked so hard over the years to make this Inn the best it can be and while each day brings its own unique challenges knowing that we've been able to provide guests with an experience like this makes any difficulty more than worth it. We hope that you will be able to return if you ever find yourself passing through- thank you again for taking the time to leave us a review.

The hotel is a nice place to stay. The staff was helpful and courteous. My room was comfortable, including the bed which I slept well in. Wifi didn't work for me so they need to work that bug out. An extra trash can in the room would've been nice. (Only one small can in the bathroom) The pub around the corner makes looking for a place to eat dinner easy. Great food and drinks. Breakfast is close by as well. If it wasn't for our government's unrealistic actions due to Covid this place would've been perfect. Not their fault services are so limited. I hope| they do well coming out of the lockdown. They deserve it.

At check in the woman at the desk told me it wasn't safe to walk 3 blocks to dinner...yikes! Fortunately, she was wrong. The large amount of homeless on this end of town is disconcerting but not threatening. Then she only had 1 key for 2 of us in the same room. Really??? We never stayed glued together when we travel. No air con, no heating, just plug in units in the room closet. Then you step onto the elevator of a 4-story building and a big note says "RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK", it doesn't always work. They suggest using the stairs. Breakfast is cancelled but somehow they manage to serve dinner. Annoyed is a good assumption. Safety is not good as the window in the room opens directly to an easily visited roof and the tiny bar insert protects less than a body width, what the heck? There's more but I'll stop here as I think you get the drift. Model ship decor on level 4 is completely busted and still on display, just trashy. Good things: free adjacent parking, walk to anything if you don't listen to the staff, didn't need extra heat or cooling

We're so sorry to hear that your stay wasn't everything that you had hoped for. We take every bit of feedback from our guests seriously in order to coach our staff as needed and to make any necessary updates and/or improvements to our 133 year old historic building. There are quite a lot of quirks that come along with a Victorian and while some see that as a unique adventure, we understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea. We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your time in Humboldt and will give us another shot the next time your in the area!

After reading the reviews, you would have thought all the reviewers had stayed in different hotels. "20 foot ceilings in the room", "high end products in the bathrooms", ??? I think not. BUT--yes, it is a historic hotel and with that comes some quirks. You will know when someone is staying on the same level as you are (you will hear the footsteps all the way down the hall). The rooms can be big, ours was, and yet the bathrooms can be very small. The beds are very comfortable, and the linens were perfect for a weekend in Eureka. The shower was fine, and there was adequate hot water. The staff were friendly, and yet, elusive, and at times very hard to find. There were few people staying in the hotel when we were there, so it was obvious as the weekend approached and you clearly heard how noisy the hotel can be when full. But we enjoyed our stay, even if there was a Rescue Mission across the street and the interesting noises that can produce late in the day and early in the morning. The hotel is still trying to find its footing after COVID, and as things open up it will come to life a bit more. We would stay here again, as there are no upscale chain hotels in the area, and faced with a choice between a motor lodge or this hotel, we will choose this one. Embrace the charm, and you will have fun.

Hello, We really appreciate that you took the time to give us such a level-headed and comprehensive review. Each and every one of our rooms is unique in size, decor, and theme and all of our guests come to us with different expectations which means each and every one of our guests will have a unique experience. Out of respect for the planet and the varied sensibilities of our guests, we do not put single-use toiletries in any of our bathrooms. Instead, we provide full-sized bottles of organic and vegan body products from DANI Naturals. The brand is in no way designer- but we prefer to support other small eco-friendly businesses. As you noted, many of the less pleasant aspects of your stay are simply a part of being in an Inn built over a century ago. Over the past few years we've been in business our team has worked tirelessly to come up with creative solutions to these 'quirks' as you so aptly put it. We haven't come up with a perfect fix to the noise but we're constantly trying new things to ensure our guests have the best experience possible. Your concern about the elusivity of our staff is noted, however. As a small business, every member of our team serves a multifaceted role in our day-to-day functioning so sometimes our front desk staff will be attending to something in another part of the hotel and will miss a guest's concerns. You are not the only person to take issue with this and we are looking into options to make sure this doesn't become a regular occurrence. It isn't often that I get to read such a well-thought-out and honest review- your courteous bluntness is truly appreciated. We will take your critiques to heart and continue working to be the best we can be so that next time you find yourself needing loggings in Eureka you won't feel as if you're settling.

This is the 2nd year in a row that we’ve stayed at the Inn at 2nd and C while attending the annual Redwood Coast Music Festival. This charming Victorian historical hotel in Old Town is in the perfect location for easy walks to great restaurants and shops both there and downtown and especially to concert venues during the festival.
Our room was spacious and comfortable including the cozy bed, and since there were only 5 rooms on our floor it was peaceful and quiet, including no sounds from the adjacent room. Included on the floor is a cozy common room for hanging out with other guests and enjoying the view of the bay and marina.
Decor of rooms remain true to the hotel’s
Victorian heritage…the only complaint, at least for my partner who is an unsteady walker, is the old floor which seemed to be a bit “off-plumb”(minimal incline) upon entering. Didn’t notice this with the room
where we’d previously stayed. Otherwise our corner room was quite comfortable, on the top floor with an amazing view of the bay and marina.
The Inn also housed a formal restaurant…charming atmosphere, great service, delicious menu, and a less formal cafe with
delicious smaller fare and a bar that stays open later for later night imbibing. As restaurant dining was not available for breakfast, the hotel provided coffee and pastries each morning.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful..texting before we arrived to ask if we’d like to make reservations in their restaurant or if there were any special requests and on the morning after our arrival to inquire if we spent a comfortable first night. During our stay they truly strove to provide the best possible experience!

I can't emphasize enough how great this Inn was. The unparalleled hospitality was apparent from the first call to book the stay, then again as we were guided through our late check-in over the phone, and then to the final goodbyes at checkout. The Eagle House retains all of its old world charm with every bedroom unique and delightful, but modern amenities (like a flawless wifi signal) and security make it feel compatible with the 21st century. A special shoutout to Max (and his owner), the goodest boy/employee, whose wagging tail and big brown eyes were the cherry on top of a perfect stay.

Excellent stay and a fun and yummy tapas restaurant on site. We were just passing through and lucked out with this place. Food was great and we had excellent service. The hotel is over 130 years old and we still had great water pressure in the shower on the fourth floor. There’s an elevator for the ride up but it’s fun to take the stairs and explore on the way down. A great mix of antique and modern. We had such a fun time and will absolutely be back.

We spent 3 nights in the king suite on the 4th floor and were not disappointed! The bed was comfortable and the furnishings were lovely, appreciated the large sofa to sit on. The room doesn't have central heat, but there is a space heater in the closet that worked well. Coffee and tea in the room - even a French press provided! We ate dinner at Phatsy Clines and were disappointed - the service was lagging and we thought the prices were high for the "small plates" that they consider a meal. Overall, the hotel is beautiful and we would stay there again.
