Let me begin by stating that my family has had a timeshare here for 20+ years. I hadn't visited with my own family in quite some time. I was looking forward to making new memories with my own family in this trip. I was recently diagnosed with cancer and this trip was just what we all needed. Check-in isn't that till 4. That was a little inconvenient considering we'd been in the car for quite a while. The representative at the service desk was very helpful and friendly. She assured me that once the room was ready, we could bypass the line and grab our room key quickly. We decided to go find a place to eat and wait. Upon receipt of the text alerting us of the room being ready, we returned to the lobby. There was no separate line for room keys. We had to wait in line an additional time. The room. Well, let's just say that it was not easy to find. You have to travel down a very narrow stair case. There's no elevator. The stairwell is EXTREMELY tight and dark. The room is small. The kitchen table chairs barely clear the wall. The view from the back patio is of a grass hill. I think that this particular building was an afterthought - a place to add another building to pack in guests like sardines. This is not the Lawrence Welk Resort I recall. We made our way to the pool across the way. It was so packed. Even after being so late in the afternoon, there was NO PLACE TO SIT. After a while in the pool, my daughter and son found the jacuzzi because the pool was pretty cold. They were in for about 5 minutes before a pool worker came up and told us the jacuzzi was closed and dirty. There was no caution tape around it. The entrance where the arm rails were had a thin little chain. There was no sign. As for the slide, due to COVID, the precautions that the resort has taken is to have the riders congregate all together at the bottom of the slide and allow one rider up at a time. How is this safer? We soon gave up and went back to the room. We texted to request extra towels and Jeanine delivered with a smile and cheerful attitude. She's the one saving grace of this trip so far. We used the jacuzzi tub in the room but the water stopper is almost impossible to get out. The tub was pretty great but it's not easy to get in and out of. During the night, we had the fans on. They sound like car turn signals. If you're a light sleeper, don't have the fan on. Also, you can hear every single neighbor, above you, to the side of you, outside, etc. Again, if you're a light sleeper, don't book this place. I got no sleep the entire time we were here. The pillows are half the size of a standard pillow and they're not at all cushioned. The beds are not comfortable. And don't make the mistake of assuming that these rooms are updated with USB plugs in the lamps because I made that mistake. The lamps do have that regular power plugs but guess what! When you turn off the light to go to sleep, it loses power and your electronics will stop charging. Again, learn from my mistake! So, day 2. We attempt the big pool at the top of the hill after being at soccer tournaments all day. We get to the pool and again, there's no seats. I attempt to contact the resort to book a cabana and the recording states they are unable to take reservations and then hangs up on me. I attempt to contact an additional number and after being on hold for 15 minutes, I'm disconnected because of the cell service in the area. I attempt again and once I get a live person, I'm told they 're an independent company and cannot help me with cabana reservations. I text the number that texted me upon arrival to see how they can help and they direct me to find a pool agent. In the meantime, we look into ordering food and drink and the shop is closed. So, to clarify, I text "No outside food or drink is allowed but you're not selling food or drink?" The person responds, "Yes." So, I look for a pool agent to book the cabana. The pool agents began making everyone get out of the pool. Apparently, someone threw up and the pool was closed for the rest of the day. This resort is not what it used to be. They cram as many people into this place as possible. We were truly looking forward to this trip. It was so awful!

The Lawrence Welk Resort is a wonderful getaway. We don’t golf but we do use their fitness center. It is a modern facility and has an extensive set of equipment. On property the resort also has a terrific restaurant, shop, convenience store, Pizza Hut, and a number of recreation centers with associated pools.

We had a wonderful time and the entire resort was so beautiful and all the staff was extra friendly. Everything you need is already at the resort. Loved all the pools. Plus seeing the ducks walking by.

We were at Welk over Memorial Day weekend and felt like although it was a clean, tidy room, the service could have been better as could have been the condition of the bed. On the one full day we were there, my kids, who were eagerly waiting and waiting for the water slide to open had to wait an extra 20 minutes as it opened late. Then, a staff member told us that the main pool was closed for the day because of a cleaning issue, but then, later, I saw they had opened it up so I'm not sure why they said that to me and it affected our plans. Then, in our room, one of the ceiling fans and light were not functional. We also got a coffee maker in the room, but no carafe; when we asked for the carafe for the coffee to drip into, after waiting for far too long, we left, and when we returned, we saw that they had delivered coffee filters to the room (no carafe). On the last day we were there, I wanted to use the gym, which was supposed to open at 7:00. I showed up at 7:30 and it was not open and another guest also was wondering why it was not open. When I called the front desk to ask why it was closed, they suggested that it should be and were puzzled as to why it was closed. When I asked if they could arrange for it to be opened, they said no and really seemed indifferent/apathetic about it, and this tone was consistent with their tone generally. I felt a little bit nickled and dimed with the resort fees especially considering I was not able to enjoy the amenities even to our relatively low expectations.

This is a five-star resort with many great amenities. We had a wonderful time in spite of the Covid restrictions. It’s about 30 miles north of San Diego and 17 miles away from the ocean, and has two golf courses and four swimming pools. The fitness center is the best we have ever seen at an RCI resort.
