The Hyatt Vacation Club At The Welk garners mixed reviews on various fronts. While guests commend the spaciousness of the rooms, they often express dissatisfaction with cleanliness and the dated nature of the amenities. Opinions are divided on the location, with some visitors appreciating the nearness to attractions, despite others considering it too isolated from San Diego. The hotel's amenities, including diverse pools and recreational options, are generally met with approval, although some maintenance concerns persist. Live entertainment and the spaciousness of units contribute positively to the atmosphere, but outdated decor and oversight at pools draw criticism. On the cleanliness front, many guests applaud the resort, highlighting the well-maintained units and grounds. Service experiences are inconsistent, with reports ranging from prompt and attentive to unresponsive and occasionally rude. Finally, several travelers question the value offered by the resort, pointing to overpriced accommodations and the additional cost of services.

We got to the Lawrence Welk resorts in Escondido on Thursday, June 8 and was impressed how smooth the checkin was. We did have a new person at the front desk so a few things were not correct, so it did take a little bit longer to check in. We ended up in Driftwood #117 which we procured through Hotels.com. We stayed for Thursday and Friday night and the cost over $800 for the two nights. This accommodation was in part due to a graduation and did include two parking spaces . The unit was a ranch with no one above us which was great, a large kitchen with two bedrooms on either side of the main living room so it was spacious. So when pay through Hotels.com, or other venues other than the Lawrence Welk vacation rental office, you will end up with condos facing the freeway. It was a problem because all you heard was the freeway if you opened any of the doors or windows. The bed in the master was horrible and the mattress needed to be changed out. The smell in the living area was that of dirty feet, so it apparently it hadn’t been aired out for a while. I don’t know if we got used to the smell or? Did use the kitchen facilities which were adequate, but the unit that we were given was a disability accessible which meant that the counters were extremely low. Showers were large, water pressure was good. If anyone had to sleep on the couch it would’ve been a disaster. The cushions were so thin you felt the mechanism underneath when you sat on the couch. The location was good there were sources within 5 miles if you need food, and there were shops on site that you could use as well, however expensive. I really wanted to like this place, but just because you pay top dollar for a condo doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to get luxury. We’re not sure if we will try it again knowing we get a condo directly facing the freeway.

I was wary about the resort after reading the reviews but I'm happy to say that was not our experience. We are here now at Torrey Pines which is across from Boulder Springs. The room is very clean, has a nice view of the golf course and the mountains, and has a huge shower. There is an on-site restaurant (Wed - Sunday), a Pizza Hut Express, a Market with vegan options, and a gift shop with cute clothes. There are 2 excellent golf courses - we played The Fountain. The Oaks is a walk only. The cost for prime time is $48 for Fountain and $22 for The Oaks. There are a bunch of pools here (the lap pool is small though so don't rely on that for serious training - there is a Masters Club nearby instead). There is a Farmers Market on Monday from 3-5 (the pastries are so delicious) with a variety of food booths, vegetables, and other wares. Nicole at the concierge was very helpful. We haven't had any pressure to buy a timeshare which was a pleasant surprise. Tennis is free, Picketball racquet rental is $5. There is a steam room near the spa, a climbing wall (fee), and yoga (fee). There are food / drink places at almost every pool and a waterslide. This is a nice place to walk around or you can take the tram around the resort. Our area is very quiet and we haven't heard noise from any of the neighbors. I would absolutely come here again. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the amenities.

I stayed here for an extended weekend through a Hyatt vacation club marketing promo. The weekend stay at a 2 bedroom villa with a balcony was $199 plus 10000 Hyatt points but the catch was that I needed to sit through a sales presentation of their platinum vacation club package. I was skeptical at first but what's the worst that could happen if I just say no? I started to do some research and people were saying that I would be bombarded with high-pressure sales tactics and they wont let me leave without saying no so I was worried about what did I get myself into lol.

The check-in was easy the lobby was fairly busy on a Friday evening check in was at 4 but I arrived around 3 and my room was ready. The front desk staff were courteous and friendly. Getting your parking pass is at another desk but they wanted to confirm your presentation time and date before you head to your room so that made sense.

The villa was very spacious with a full kitchen and washer/dryer two bathrooms and two bedrooms one with a king and one with two queens. The living room also had a sleeper sofa so you could fit a lot of people in the room. I did like that they did not charge by occupancy but just by the nightly room rate. Our party was a total of 8 and we all slept comfortably and did not feel crowded at all.

They have 2 large pool areas with splash pads and arcades, lots of things for kids to stay busy. One of them has a huge slide. They also had a bunch of smaller pools around the resort for just swimming and relaxing.

The day of the presentation we had to exit the main resort and head on over to the "owner" side of the resort. The presentation was given by Reuban and he was funny and did not pressure us in any way. The information given to us was pretty simple and transparent. After the presentation we walked upstairs to meet with the sales team and that was when they talked to us about numbers here is where I thought I was going to get myself trapped but Nielsa and Zaki were not overpressuring at all. They didn't take a simple no as an answer at first because that's their job they just wanted to ask us more questions and show us other products they had available to see if anything would resonate with us but unfortunately for them nothing did and they signed us out and we were back at the pool all under 3 hours.

All in all this place is great for families and if the vacation package makes sense to you, it's not a bad buy. I just like to vacation at different places each time rarely do I go to the same so having a lifetime membership was something I couldn't see myself committing to.

I am very disappointed with my experience while making a reservation through a timeshare promotion. This is my first time using such a service, and unfortunately, it feels like a scam.

I booked a 4-day, 3-night stay, only to find out that the resort was not in San Diego as advertised; it was actually an hour's drive away. This inconvenient location severely limited our ability to explore the area, forcing us to spend a lot of time driving back and forth to the resort.

The room itself is spacious and includes full amenities, such as a small bedroom and kitchen with a stove, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and utensils. However, everything feels outdated and in need of renovation. The Wi-Fi is acceptable but not great. Additionally, the bathroom only has a shower, and the hot water is barely warm. While the resort has eight pools, we couldn't enjoy one of them because we felt our time was wasted.

I arrived late and didn’t get a chance to see much of the area since it is quite dark and lacks sufficient outdoor lighting. On the second day, my family spent all day at LEGOLAND and returned in the evening. On the third day, I had an appointment for a meeting and presentation. During this presentation, they showed us 2 and 3-bedroom options and discussed their timeshare and travel offerings. I was not interested, but they applied a lot of pressure to make a purchase. The sales pitch was aggressive, with constant interruptions and attempts to change the subject when we expressed disinterest. We ended up wasting time until 7 PM. I felt rushed to sign documents to buy just to expedite the process, as my daughter was already hungry. I definitely want to cancel this purchase, but I’m unsure if they will allow it since the contract states there is a 7-day cancellation period.

My first experience with the Hyatt Vacation Club has been far from enjoyable. I would have preferred to pay for a traditional hotel where I could truly relax and enjoy my stay, rather than endure the inconveniences and pressures of a timeshare.

We stayed at the Welk with our free night using our Hyatt credit card reward and to check out the golf course. I had recieved a call from the resort to ask me if I had any questions a few days befor our arrival. I mentioned golf and she said to let them know when you check in to the hotel that you're playing golf so that you can get a discount on your green fees. Sweet!! But when I checked in, the front desk women said, the golf course was not related to the hotel and then handed me a ringing desk phone to call the club house, which I thought was super weird and kind of rude, like 'here you call them'. The club house then said 'we will take care of you' which actually meant nothing because when we got there they were like, yeah there is no discount cause it was already twilight. What the what? No words.

The general vibe of the staff felt like they were all mentally checked out and couldnt wait to get off their shift. Could tell they probably all hate working there. My fiance kept saying, is it me or is everyone here not very nice or happy.

Even though it's technically a Hyatt property, Hyatt Vacation clubs are separately ran time share scam, so don't expect the same Hyatt status or customer service that you might be used to at other Hyatts. Also expect to be asked to 'go on a tour'. Also, if you are using your free night credit, expect a basement room. Sigh.

We signed up for the Paint & Sip adult 21+ event, thinking it would be a fun way to spend our evening on the property. They hosted that event in the middle of a rec room in with what felt like a thousand screaming children playing football, slinging billiards and yelling at video games, all while we sat at a table covered in glitter from the earlier kid activities. The instructor was so amazing and I kept feeling awful as she tried to yell instructions at us over the noise. Why would you ever host that event there? Complete insanity and unfair to the woman hosting. Only way we survived was with our canned margaritas lol. Also no food options past 9pm and restaurants are not that close by so pro tip: bring your own food and water.

The rooms are very dated but spacious with seperate living room and fridge, stove and dishwasher. Free parking was a pro. I was excited for the nice sized TV in the living room area, but they only had cable and no streaming options. Annoying.

Worst part was the 10am checkout, and they don't mess around, 10:01 and they are knocking to tell you to get the h*** out.

TLDR: No golf discount if you stay at the hotel, spacious but dated rooms, free parking, cable TV only, no late night food options, screaming children while you 21+ paint & sip, unhappy employees. Also by 10am you better get the h*** out.

Our 2 bedroom suite was bright, large and clean. All the possible needs were provided and when I asked for a blender it was delivered without delay as was extra dish soap and washing machine detergent. Taking out our own garbage and recycle was not a problem as they receptacles are just outside the buildings.
The gym was top notch, clean and full of new great condition equipment. The pools were clean and not busy at all. I used the 45 foot lap pool daily and walked the beautiful grounds. Plants and trees and flowers and the softest grass all around the expansive property. We played pickleball on well kept courts, fun was had every day.
We enjoyed the farmers market on Monday and the live music on Tuesday. We didn't buy the barbeque dinner but it looked and smelled delicious.
This is our second time at this resort and was pleasantly surprised that it was fantastic 6 years later!
Oh, we did not experience any timeshare invitation or pressure at all!
We can't wait to come back.

We got a great deal through Interval exchange getaways so came to stay in the middle of January to enjoy the sun and pools.

What we enjoyed:
- The two bedroom unit was very clean and spacious
- Nice outdoor BBQ grill
- Indoor jacuzzi and steam room at Melody Hall
- Quiet location and adequate WiFi (we requested at check in)
- Staff was very responsive when we asked for kettle and coffee
- Taco trucks up the road and TERI Common Grounds Café & Coffee Bar nearby
- No solicitation about timeshare sale

Other points:
- Mattress was very soft
- Water pressure in showers barely workable
- Dishwasher looked very beat up so I did dishes by hand
- The unit upstairs became occupied halfway through our stay and we could hear constant footsteps, furniture being moved etc.
- We were supposed to get a mini clean mid stay which never happened, not sure why but not a problem since ample supplies in unit
- The location is very remote, we would drive to San Diego to sightsee during the day and would not feel like driving anywhere again after coming back in the afternoon

Overall an okay stay if you know what to expect and want to relax in peace/quiet.

This was listed as nearby lodging for Ethereal Gardens for a wedding we attended. It was pretty convenient to the wedding venue as it was only 1 exit up I-5.
Check-in/Checkout was very straight forward and fairly quick.
We did not have children with us, but it looked like the pool area had a lot to offer.
The one bedroom suite we had was very large and easily could have hosted 4 people. It had a full kitchen, washer/dryer and the bathroom was larger than some hotel rooms. A gas fireplace that turned on instantly with a wall switch was an unexpected treat.
We were there for only 2 nights, but this is the type of place you go to for a week. One issue that some folks might consider a bonus is that there is not much shopping / restaurants off-site without driving several miles. The kitchen was big enough where it can easily hold a week's worth of groceries.
I would stay here again.

So the overall stay was pleasant. The rooms are a bit dated but clean. The property is nicely maintained. The restaurants were decent for the price and for being on site. Highlight was the farmers market every Monday.

However it’s very ISOLATED from anything. It takes 20 minutes to get to any store or restaurant.

The reason for 2 stars however is because of the service. I requested a toothbrush and told they don’t offer free toothbrushes but I had to BUY it from their only store on site. But the store didn’t even sell toothbrushes! Which meant I had to drive 40 minutes late at night to get a toothbrush.

This is at a Hyatt branded resort that charges $20 for resort fees. Apparently the resort fees don’t even cover tooth brushes.

When I talked to the manager he basically told me to pound sand and didn’t offer to do anything to make things right.

@The Welk, if you’re going to be under the Hyatt brand AND charge $20 in resort fees AND be in an isolated location, it would be very helpful to make sure you stock toothbrushes and tell guests on your website that you charge for toothbrushes, as most guests at a Hyatt would not expect this.

I am most disappointed in the service received from the manager, who was not emphatic at all. It is a seemingly small issue but driving 40 minutes at night before going to sleep really ruins the start of a trip.

Hyatt Vacation club at The Welk should to be your last option to visit as a resort. Not only is there no accountability held here but even their customer advocacy department will not respond or correct the issues you may have. I recommend you look far away from this place and here is why.

Our room was “Showboat 269” there was certainly major neglect to this room, the walls are dirty, air conditioning ventilation are filthy, the electrical of the whole room has a buzzing sound to them which is nullifying our experience of comfort and rest. Also to note the WiFi connections are horrible. The whole vibe felt like old apartment complex converted for use of a resort. Upstairs resort visitors banging, running around with the lack of insulation in the walls you hear everything.

When we first arrived to the resort from Los Angeles we were very excited, our group was hungry and decided to visit the restaurant Canyon Grille, after the waitress sat us at a table we were immediately hit with this horrendous smell of sewage lines, when we brought this up with the waitress she apologized and unfortunately we had to leave due to this smell. We drove over 30 minutes to BJ’S to have a meal.

At the end of our first day we heard there was going to be live music at Canyon Grille so we decided to go down to hang out and relax thinking that the issue had been resolved, while walking to the doors of the restaurant another group of guests were walking out and said “it smells horrible in there” I responded by asking if it still had a stench of sewer lines and they responded “yes and when we brought this to the attention of the waitress, they said that the issue had been resolved”.

Second day, we wanted a hang out at the pool area, we drove to the pool area since it was a distance from the room. While hanging out we got hungry, we saw a hut “TRESTLES bar and grill” where we ordered some drinks and chicken tenders, hanging out at the pool area we gave the tenders to the kids, and guess the surprised look I had on my face when I inspected the piece of chicken tender that my son was eating UNDERCOOKED/RAW. It was completely pink in the center, I was furious went back to the hut and told them I needed to speak to their supervisor. Their supervisor Danny Salvatierra arrived and took our information.

Danny noted my information and reported it to his safety and sanitation department and also I informed him of all the above issues and he said that someone would call and speak to us, unfortunately no one ever did which just reinforces the lack of accountability of this resort.

Do yourselves a favor find somewhere else to stay if you’re looking for relaxation/escape. For a marriott owned resort this was more than a dissatisfying experience.

Not sure of the term "Limited Kitchen", but our 1 bedroom condo had a full kitchen suitable for making meals. Full size refrigerator, full size stove, dishwasher and basic cooking/eating utensils were included. There is enough pantry space to store a week's worth of groceries.

Unsure, but only because I do not speak Spanish. There are plenty of outdoor areas, but I'd call to confirm.

Does the resort receive Amazon orders sent to guests? Are there any costs?

Unsure, but I can't imagine they wouldn't. Especially when they can charge a service fee. I spend ~150 days on the road and have never seen a hotel that wouldn't accept Amazon or charge additional fees.

I would check with the front desk. They may have ground level units available. It is a large resort.
