My husband, son & I stayed at Surfhouse for a weekend getaway this past weekend & I was so impressed! We stayed in room 6 - Swamis. The room was so clean & minimalist. I loved the shower with the pebble floor & rainshower head! They provided a welcome tray with sanitizing wipes & spray along with some ear plugs since you can hear every train that goes by day & night so they came to be very useful! There are so many restaurants & experiences nearby that it makes Surfhouse the ideal central location to stay! When I picture California, this is definitely the type of place I envision! We would definitely stay here again!

Our second stay at the Surfhouse was just as magical as our first! This time we brought our kids, age 7 & 8, and just like us they looooved the bright, open room, the fully stocked board shed, the hot outdoor shower, the numerous fantastic businesses we walked to (esp. Leucadia Donut Shoppe, mmm) and of course…the gorgeous nearby beach.

You really cannot beat the Surfhouse for location, warm hospitality, and affordable, styley comfort. You know how hotel websites say stuff like, “use our free bikes and feel like a local!” but you don’t? You actually really DO when you stay here. Walk to get fresh roasted coffee or a fresh brewed beer at the Regal Seagull literally across Jasper Street. Order the Monster Pastrami sandwich for lunch at La Papagayo and give thanks that you have taste buds. (Stash your leftovers in the fridge in your hotel room, clutch!) Cruise just up the hill to catch the sunset above Beacon’s with the rest of the neighborhood families and salty dogs. Hang in the morning sunshine in the Surfhouse outdoor lounge and wave to the folks rolling south or north on the Pacific Surfliner…Then do it all again the next day.

Host Nikki went out of his way to make sure we had all we needed for a great stay at the Surfhouse. He paddled out with my husband for a beginner surf lesson and made us all feel personally welcomed and really well taken care of. We’ve already booked our next trip to be return guests (again!) cause staying here is just SO GOOD!!

This boutique hotel is in a great location, just down the hill (3 minute walk) to Beacons state beach, right in the middle of great restaurants, coffee shops snd bars, and despite the lack of a front desk, has very responsive customer service. One of the coolest things about this place is the keyless entry. No need to remember a key! And you just show up at the scheduled time, park in front of your room and you walk into you room with a code. The rooms are very nicely decorated too. A very relaxing surf vibe. I’d love to stay there again!

The poor review is due to the following: 1. The stairs to the beach are 1/5 th mile (1056 feet) up a curvy 45 degree angle road (Jasper St) At the top of this road turn left and walk to a parking area for about 10 cars. Adjacent to the parking lot is a pathway leading down the side of a cliff to the beach. The dirt pathway leads to the beach perhaps two hundred feet below the level of the parking lot. Bring your own toilet because there is none visible from the top of the cliff. Moonlight beach 1.5 miles south has public toilet. If you don't want to lug your stuff up Jasper. Drive south to Leucadia Blvd. 2. Motel is in Leucadia. Building across from motel painted on side says "Welcome to Leucadia Population 18,000. It ain't Carpinteria, or San Clemente as far as charm.3. At 7:15 am you will hear a gasoline powered leaf blower at the backside of the motel. (Illegal in Palm Springs). The San Diego County hipsters are unaware of battery powered leaf blowers. 3. Parking spaces warn of tow away for unauthorized use, but no-one to enforce. As a result, at all times of day and nigh non-guests use the spaces to conduct other than motel business. These people as well as the hipster guests haven't learned how to lock and unlock a vehicle without activating the horn in front of your motel room. (See Cal Veh Code 27001 a & b). This is probably why hotel management includes 4 sets of ear plugs with other amenities. Then at 2:30 am the local surf punks set off fire crackers and fireworks. Welcome to Leucadia folks. If you arrive late and find no parking space you can park free in the dirt on the north side of highway 1. Disregard the 101 signs it is highway 1. Save your money and stay in Oceanside. Great surfing, beach is located 25 feet below street level. No cliffs. Plenty of parking. As far as the style and amenities section below, answers are based on no contact with motel staff/employees.

This place was super cute and had a nice beach surfer vibe. We could walk to coffee shops, breweries, wine bars, restaurants, and the beach. They also give discounts at places for staying at Surfhouse. The train came through a few times in the middle of the night which is loud but if you blast a white noise app on your phone you can sleep through it. There are no curtains on the windows, just basic blinds, so it’s pretty bright and I had a hard time sleeping from the street light.... I ended up hanging beach towels from the windows to make it darker. Just a suggestions to the owners to add curtains to all the rooms for comfort. Overall I’d recommend staying here.

I stayed at Surf House last week and was very impressed. It definitely lived up to everything it was advertised to be, and was a street away from the local beach, Beacons (a great place to watch the sunset each night).

The room I stayed in was clean and very comfortable, equipped with a great bluetooth speaker and Apple TV. The area, Encinitas, felt safe and I felt confident leaving my belongings in the room while I went out for the day (rooms are locked using a security code which is helpful as it means you don't have to worry about losing any keys/cards). As a guest you also get access to fixie bikes, surfboards, wetsuits etc. which is perfect given the beach is literally a street away.

The hotel itself is situated within walking distance of some great little cafes, restaurants and coffee spots. Surfhouse also provide a guest card which gets you discount/deals at several of these locations. One thing to note is that there is a train track just across the road from the hotel, however, this didn't cause me any trouble at night when it came to falling or staying asleep (I didn't have one experience where I was woken during the night by a train).

Nikki, one of the owners, was super friendly and very happy to help out with anything I needed. I booked two surf guiding sessions with him which were great value for money. We would go out for at least 2 hours to various locations that would suit my skill level.

Overall, I was very happy with my stay here and would recommend it to anyone who is planning on travelling to this part of the country, whether or not you're a surfer. The one other thing I'd mention is that it is a little bit of a drive from San Diego, so if you're wanting to spend time exploring places like Balboa Park/Pacific beach then just be prepared to spend a little bit of money on an Uber or take the time to catch public transport there.

Absolutely loved staying at Surfhouse! Prior to booking I had a few questions that were answered very quickly. Prior to arrival I received emails with all of the info I needed to do self check in, a fun little guide to the neighborhood and info regarding COVID. I’ve visited Leucadia for years and have always loved. I normally stay with a friend but Surfhouse will be my new go to. My dog and I were so comfortable in the room, parking was easy, the staff we saw onsite was super friendly, we felt very safe and the room is very clean and so many awesome places nearby that are easily walked to. Truly an awesome place to stay with quick and clear communication and service! Thanks Surfhouse!

Surfhouse says it helps provide the ultimate California experience and it does that very well! Stayed there with my wife. Great selection of surfboards and wetsuits and a block from the Beacons surf break. An outdoor shower with hot water to rinse off after surfing is a nice touch. The location is fantastic with many great restaurants and shops within walking distance. A very relaxing laid back vibe which is just what we needed. Nikki is a great host! We will definitely be coming back!

The beds were very comfortable and the decor was above any expectations. You can tell time and thought went into every detail. The generosity of the bikes and beach/surf equipment, the discounts at the local restaurants and shops (which we forgot to use LoL), the outdoor patios and shower, the parking right in front of the rooms, the list goes on.

We loved Coffee Coffee right across the little street as well as the easy walk up to the beach cliff. That walk even comes with the delightful essence of jasmine along the way. There are many really good restaurants next door and in both directions, all within casual walking distance.

My son and his buddy went surfing with Nikki, who made sure they landed in the best surfing spot and made them very comfortable among the other surfers. Nikki answers all emails/phone calls, which helps as there is no front desk or office. I realized we actually prefered no office because it let us feel like we were more on our own.

Housekeeping was very friendly and helpful. We were surrounded by the true California feeling of relaxed at Surfhouse, which helped us unwind and relax ourselves. Yes, the trains run day and night and the horns are loud, but Surfhouse adds white noise machines to the rooms, which really did help. Trains are definitely not a game changer. I turned right around and booked another visit in hopes we are returning in the fall. Thank you for a memorable stay in Leucadia :)

I stayed at Surfhouse early this week and had an absolutely perfect stay. The place is super well-kept, cute, spacious, and at the most ideal location. It's a quick walk to the beach (Beacon's) and the walk itself is a nice stroll through one of San Diego's finest towns. There's stores, coffee, and restaurants all within walking distance and many more a short drive away. Easy access to the highway so you can explore all of San Diego without any issues. The locals are kind and welcoming, giving you the perfect San Diego experience. Whether you're a local looking for a quick getaway or coming in from out of state, I would highly recommend Surfhouse. I will definitely be coming back.
