Stayed two nights at the Surfhouse. We chose it because it is within walking distance to our daughter's place, not to mention good restaurants, coffee places, and beaches. Booking, check-in, etc is all virtual, but we received clear and frequent email communications from management and had no issues. We had Room 1 on the bottom floor, closest to the 101. I was initially concerned there would be road noise, but traffic dies down after about 11 and we slept well (did not need the ear plugs included in the room). Others have commented about train noise. If you stay anywhere in Encinitas near the 101 you'll hear the trains. Not a big deal for us. We took advantage of the discount at Vuori, thanks! I am not well-acquainted with Apple TV so that was a minor challenge, otherwise a great stay. We'll be back.

We stayed here for 1 night while traveling up the coast and it was perfect. Clean well appointed rooms comfortable beds. Close to many good restaurants and a great coffee shop across the street! Everything was done online, so you actually never see a person or they don't have a front office, which wasn't terrible, but missed that human touch. We had a good stay and would stay again. Thx!

My husband and I planned a trip to California to go longboard surfing. The Surfhouse in Encinitas was the perfect place to stay. We rented boards from Bing Surf Shop which was steps away from the Surfhouse. They handed us 2 beautiful boards and told us to come back if we wanted to try something else! This was our first surf trip to California, so we set up 2 days to go out with Nikki for the surf guiding. I can’t say enough great things about how easy he made everything. He picked us up, brought us to the perfect place to surf for the day and had us in the exact spot we needed to be. It was amazing. I needed a bit of extra help; he was there the whole time! The food in the area is all within walking distance. If you don’t have a car, you will have no problem getting great breakfast, lunch and dinner. The room had a beachy feel and was clean and comfortable. Our stay was great, we look forward to coming back!

I would highly reccomend a stay at Surfhouse Boutique Hotel. It was exactly the simple, laid back experience we were looking for. The check in process was super easy; the room was very clean, comfortable and tastefully designed. Its a great location, walking distance to plenty of restaurants and the beach. Signing up for surfing lessons was very easy and we were able to do it last minute, and Nikki owner and surf instructor was patient and kind.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Surfhouse. Nikki was awesome! While our room was small, it was clean, efficient and well appointed. The location is great! It's awesome to roll out of bed, grab a quick coffee and walk a block to Beacons for a Dawn Patrol session. The Leucadia neighborhood is chill and there are many great food options. Definitely loved the Nectarine Grove, as it is a gluten free restaurant and Coffee Coffee was great as well. Be mindful that it can be a little loud at times with the train, 101 and vehicle's supporting the nearby restaurants. All in all, it was a great vacation experience for us and we will be back!

If you want a hassle free stay in South California go visit Surfhouse. Everything is in walking distance from surfing Beacon's, to breakfast to lunch to dinner. One of the best sushi places is just around the corner. And with the beach cruiser bikes you can explore all Encinitas. Nikki the owner was also very helpful with renting out the surfboards and wetsuit. This is the perfect hotel for what it stands for. It is not the boring 5 Star bunker. At surfhouse you make friends and have a great time.

Our second stay at the Surfhouse was just as magical as our first! This time we brought our kids, age 7 & 8, and just like us they looooved the bright, open room, the fully stocked board shed, the hot outdoor shower, the numerous fantastic businesses we walked to (esp. Leucadia Donut Shoppe, mmm) and of course…the gorgeous nearby beach. You really cannot beat the Surfhouse for location, warm hospitality, and affordable, styley comfort. You know how hotel websites say stuff like, “use our free bikes and feel like a local!” but you don’t? You actually really DO when you stay here. Walk to get fresh roasted coffee or a fresh brewed beer at the Regal Seagull literally across Jasper Street. Order the Monster Pastrami sandwich for lunch at La Papagayo and give thanks that you have taste buds. (Stash your leftovers in the fridge in your hotel room, clutch!) Cruise just up the hill to catch the sunset above Beacon’s with the rest of the neighborhood families and salty dogs. Hang in the morning sunshine in the Surfhouse outdoor lounge and wave to the folks rolling south or north on the Pacific Surfliner…Then do it all again the next day. Host Nikki went out of his way to make sure we had all we needed for a great stay at the Surfhouse. He paddled out with my husband for a beginner surf lesson and made us all feel personally welcomed and really well taken care of. We’ve already booked our next trip to be return guests (again!) cause staying here is just SO GOOD!!

It was fine, not great. 3-Stars! Sorry I don't have the same opinion as everyone else reviewing here. The room was small, clean and cute. But the only place to sit was a single very uncomfortable chair. 2 people, but only a bed and 1 chair, no soft seat of any kind. Sounds travel throughout constantly, between the bathroom and the room, between rooms, and street sounds from outside, people and cars. No sound-proofing at all. And this includes the train going right through the middle of the room, so it seems, every 2 hours through the night. Maybe some sound-proofing in the walls would help? Lack of an office or staff of any kind on site is weird, I don't know if that matters or not, but to figure anything out you have to sort through the dozen emails they sent before the trip to find the info you need since there is nobody to ask. Also no coffee. My service rating for this property is 1 star because there is no service of any kind since there is no staff on site. I'm not sure how to rate it higher since there is literally no service on site. And here is my most controversial opinion based on the other reviews: The neighborhood is filled with small local restaurants that are not very good! Fine, but not good. The coffee and tap room nearby are both very good.

My husband and I love the surf house!!!!!! We stayed there for our 1 year anniversary and then again for our 5 year. We loved the room so much. Perfect amount of space, dreamy spa shower, and very comfortable bed. We love Encinitas- it’s a little paradise. Walking distance to our favorite surf spot, coffee shop right across the way and tons of places to eat and drink in a short walk. We also loved taking the bikes out and exploring the town a bit. I could go on and on!! We will continue to come visit the surf house- it’s the BEST!!!

This boutique hotel is in a great location, just down the hill (3 minute walk) to Beacons state beach, right in the middle of great restaurants, coffee shops snd bars, and despite the lack of a front desk, has very responsive customer service. One of the coolest things about this place is the keyless entry. No need to remember a key! And you just show up at the scheduled time, park in front of your room and you walk into you room with a code. The rooms are very nicely decorated too. A very relaxing surf vibe. I’d love to stay there again!
