I've visited Sierra Woods Lodge 4 times, and every-time it was amazing experience. The rooms i stayed in had been recently remodeled and very comfortable. The restaurant at the lodge served wonderful food. In fact I would go the that restaurant as a destination spot for a nice dinner away. The coffee shop on site was the real deal, a wonderful cup of coffee or whatever specialty drink you prefer. All of the waitstaff were very cordial and eager to make sure our stay at "The Lodge" was a pleasant experience. Highly recommended

We have eaten here twice before, on the way up to ski resorts, and enjoyed breakfast both times. We looked at reviews carefully before deciding to stay overnight because we value our sleep and travel with a 2 year old (and older child) can make that difficult. Basically, if you are expecting luxury accommodations at this budget price you are probably going to be quite disappointed. But if you want a quiet, clean and comfortable place to stay with a helpful staff this is the place for you. The main worry that we had was whether the family room (3 separate rooms with king, 2 twin, and pull out couch!) would be warm enough with the electric wall heaters with an overnight low of ~ 20f. Our 2 year old needs the room temp to be fairly consistent and warm overnight otherwise he'll get very uncomfortable. We brought our own electric space heater just in case and turned on all heaters & closed the blinds when we arrived ~ 4pm. After dinner we noted that it was quite toasty, even though it was already 25 degrees outside. We lowered the heaters and had a very comfortable warm night with no wake-ups. It happens that there was much more snow than predicted that night, and huge quantities had fallen off the roof in the front of the parking lot. We've been at a lot of Tahoe hotels after a snow, and the response to getting your car out can be slow and require shoveling on your part. Not here! When I went out around 8:30 to clean off the car they were already done with snow blowing pathways and behind all the cars. There was about a foot of snow on my car and as I was wiping it off and scraping the windows 3 different staff members came by and helped! The king and twin beds were very comfortable. I will note that the pull out couch was very thin and would not be comfortable for an adult, however it was perfectly fine for a child. The bathroom was clean and the bathtub was very nice and deep with plenty of hot water. We have enjoyed the restaurant. They offer good 'comfort' food selections and healthy items. Everyone in the family found something to enjoy. The biggest con is that the food does take a while to come out, so consider bringing some books or toys for kids and leave enough time to enjoy.

We were somewhat desperate for a night's lodging as a result of our own poor planning. So we stopped here and stayed in room 4. After we received an extension cord we were able to rig the floor fan to cool and ventilate the room. The room came with a portable electric heater which we didn't need. As there's no back window and no A/C, ventilation can become a project. Then we discovered that the control valve for the shower was just plain broken - so no showers. While the new operators seem to be trying hard to please, we won't be back.

I found and booked Sierra Woods Lodge online. Being in a hurry, I didn't read reviews so I had no expectations. We were greeted pleasantly on arrival and escorted to an immaculate room with the king bed I'd requested. It turned out to be super comfortable. We asked for directions to a walking trail and learned that there is a pretty one that starts just at the end of their road. That gave us a good appetite for the excellent pasta and salad we enjoyed at the adjacent restaurant. The waiters at dinner and breakfast were courteous, helpful young men. It took us awhile to realize that the property is part of a recovery program for youth and families who are working their way out of addiction. (One tip was that they have an excellent coffee bar but serve no alcohol.) It made the stay even more rewarding to know that it was helping them achieve their goals.

Room Tip: May want to ask if there are rooms on south side. With windows open we had some highway noise.

This lodge is owned by Teen Challenge, a network of Christian faith-based corporations intended to help teenagers, adults, and families with problems such as substance abuse. The residents of Teen Challenge work their way through the program, learn job skills while going through their recovery. You can see the joy on the faces of these young men as they are victorious over their addiction. They work hard to provide nice rooms that are newly remodeled, clean and the mattresses are comfortable. The adjoining Rustic Table makes fresh ingredients and are accommodating for those with food allergies. These young men are eager to please. Ask them their story and they are happy to share how their lives are being transformed. Last but certainly not least. The best coffee bar. The coffee drinks are amazing.
