The historic Harbor House Inn rests on the edge of the rustic Pacific Coast in Mendocino. The Inn was first built in 1916 by American Architect Louis Christian Mullgardt, and recently remodeled by Roff Barnett, to showcase the beauty of the redwoods. It has since evolved and stands as both a timeless sanctuary and culinary destination. The Inn is surrounded by the majestic old growth redwood forest, and the dramatic coastline of California. Following a recent remodel, the property features classic and antique furnishings, fireplaces, decks, and pathways to magnificent gardens with vistas that lead to a private beach. Guests can relax in our stately sitting room and take in the breathtaking ocean views from our dining room. The Inn features a 1 Michelin starred restaurant, open Thursday-Monday evening, with a hyper-local tasting menu that requires a reservation, primarily of seafood and vegetables. The redwood dining room faces the breathtaking views of Wharf Rock and the Pacific Ocean. Reservations are required for dinner.

My Niece who is a local took me and my friend for lunch. The food is way above par as there is a 1* Michelin Chef in the kitchen. We were fortunate to have a beautiful day with very little smoke. The Wine list is extensive and expensive. Better to pick from the list tho as the corkage fee is $75.00 We ordered the Albarino by The Suitcase for $75 and it pared very well with the food. We also had the Longmeadow Ranch Chardonnay for $135. Nice Choice! Currently they are serving a 3 course lunch for $40.00 per person. This was our second visit!

I had originally booked a three night stay at The Heritage House but after reading all of their recent bad reviews I thought I’d better look for somewhere else to stay! Somehow I found The Harbor House Inn and knew it would be perfect for our much needed getaway! The two women that worked the front desk while we were there were amazing so thank you ladies!! The grounds were stunning… The private beach was awesome! We did eat at the restaurant one night... it was a really cool dining experience! If you are trying to choose somewhere to stay on the Mendocino Coast this IS the place! It’s a little far from civilization… Took us 20 minutes to get to Mendocino and 40 minutes to get to Fort Bragg but still well worth it!!

We spent just 1 night there, but it was one of the best hotels in the US we've ever been (we have stayed in many 5* before). Book the dinner in advance, we didn't have a chance to enjoy it since there were no tables available already... There is a definite reason to come back! :)

We spent 3 nights at the Inn in January 2019. For most of the time we were the only guests. The staff was very helpful and provided us with excellent recommendations for things to do, places to eat and extras of all sorts--teas, wine, etc. We are used to staying at Post Ranch and the Farmhouse in Sonoma, so those are our comparative California lodgings. The Harbor House measures up. We only had dinner there one night as the restaurant was closed the other two. We had eaten at the Single Thread in Healdsburg earlier in the week, which is also Michelin starred. The tasting menu was just as good as were the wine pairings. Highly recommended...

The inn is simply beautiful, in a spectacular ocean front environment. Although we were here in a cool, inclement weather time of year it couldn't have been a warmer or cozier experience. It was simply a delight and rejuvenating in every way. We stayed in the Harbor Room, spacious and very accommodating. Although due to the weather we spent a lot of time in the room, unusual for us, we never felt cramped or claustrophobic as can happen in hotel rooms. There are windows on four sides so you get great views of both the ocean and surrounding countryside. Everything was utterly comfortable and tranquil. We very much appreciated not having a TV, in room phone, and limited cell service (although there's very good Wi-Fi if you need it). The staff is very professional, friendly and helpful in every way. They engage so thoughtfully that you feel as though you're in a home with friends, yet they make sure you're also taken care of with amazing service. Breakfast was brought promptly each morning to our chosen time, and always with a smile and a different array of things to eat. I'd recommend a stay here to anyone seeking a unique get away on the coast...and do not miss a dinner in the restaurant!
