First off, El Portal is probably the best location if you can't get into the park. You're about 15 minutes from Yosemite valley, and even closer to the roads leading to Glacier Point and Tuolumne Meadows.

Such a serene and peaceful place. Comfortable room, great balcony. Right on the water, which was rushing and magnificent. Liz was a great hostess. Her breakfasts were wonderful. They had lots of books and personal knowledge of Yosemite.
