I was so excited to stay here, and this place exceeded my expectations. I stayed in caboose 17, which they told me has the best view of the crags from the lookout seats. I was struck by all the details inside: the gas lantern lamps, the pictures and stories of trains on the wall, they even have their own railroad channel that I got sucked into watching for a couple hours. Was so grateful the trains have A/C because it was HOT out. I wasn’t expecting the grounds to be so lovely, and pretty peaceful for being close to a road. Greenery, flowers, streams, a pond, a creek, trails, outside tables and fire pits. I was also kind of shocked by how comfortable the bed was. I didn’t use the pool but it’s a nice amenity to have in the summer. The gift shop was impressive, and the dining car was also great. (My only wish was that the dining car served breakfast, but I think they do when it’s busier, or they may be waiting to get back to normal after COVID). The staff was super friendly and helpful. Would give this place 6 stars if I could. Can’t wait to go back!

We stayed in one of the cabins- just happened to get the one with 4 wooden steps to the entry deck. No railing- no ramp and I found it difficult to maneuver. Funny thing... the other cabins were all different entries! One had a railing, one had a concrete ramp and one had just 2 small steps up- with a wall close by. Lucky us eh? Cabin was clean, air conditioning was great- basic kitchen set-up, bathroom was fine. Even tho park was sold out- it was very quiet! I could see families with kids really enjoying it and multi-generations were there as well. A cute place for railroad fans!

We rented a campsite for one night. It cost us $65.00. Quite shocking for a tent site . It was late at night, we were tired, so we paid it and stayed. So disappointed in the fact that they charged us way too much. Don’t know how the rest of the resort is, we didn’t get a chance to explore it as we had to leave early in the morning.

Response from Mark Lilley, Owner at Railroad Park Resort
Responded 1 week ago
Ginger, we employ a system of dynamic pricing that progressively increases as we fill our campground. Our tent sites are usually priced at $29 (a little more on holiday weekends) the people that reserve ahead of time receive the best price but at 60% occupancy the rate starts incrementally increasing. This is standard practice in our industry as well as hotels and airlines. Last minute bookers still have a choice to book or not at the stated price. When you stayed, we were 100% occupied and we only had 1 tent site left. We apologize that you were disappointed with your choice to pay our price. Not sure your choice warrants a 2 star review but fairness is in the eye of the beholder. We welcome you to come check out our whole resort and all we have to offer in the future and we recommend making a reservation first.

Came here for our 2nd wedding Anniversary. It did not disappoint; very warm, romantic caboose car with nice details like real wine glasses, frig and hot tub in the pool area. The pool is closed and there is no breakfast in the restaurant (probably COVID setbacks) but we found good food in nearby Mount Shasta and had breakfast in the cupola of our caboose overlooking the stream of the Resort. Fresh air, pine forest, Castle Craigs views, great walks, and yes, great staff.

What a great spot! We stayed in Caboose #14 and enjoyed everything about our stay! Our room was clean and comfortable. The pool and hot tub were just steps away. I highly recommend this spot and look forward to our next stay
