My first visit to the Desert Hot Springs Resort &Spa was as a teenager. My friends parents were big fans of ‘taking in the waters ‘and rather insistent that we accompany them to the spa. The strange mantra of ‘taking in the waters’ became evident as soon as I stepped into one of the several mineral baths at the spa . The sense of relaxation and overall calmness that overcame me made a lasting impression and turned me into a mineral bath junkie ! Over the years I have visited various hot springs , baths and resorts yet they always fall short of the Desert Hot Springs Resort and Spa.My husband and children all agree. And as of this past week? so do my grandsons. Whereas DHS is far from a 5 star hotel and spa and I have never stayed overnight,it is a comforting time capsule. The world has become a very unsettling place filled with changes -some good and some not so good. As soon as you see the 1950’s / 60’s Desert Hot Spring Marquis you will feel yourself being transported into another era where things were simple. The antiquity of the resort allows time to stand still, something no iphone app or fancy spa has been able to achieve. Keep in mind that many experiences in life are based upon ‘state of mind’. This past week while introducing my grade school grandsons to the concept of ‘taking in the waters ‘ I witnessed their transformation. Unlike various visits to mega pools with slides and rafts they would quickly get ‘bored ‘ and inevitably request their video games;Yet ,not once did they request their devices or iPhones. They actually requested to make one more visit before we depart for home ! The pools were clean and set at the most perfect temperatures. The owner was walking around the grounds inspecting the property as were various friendly lifeguards. We did see a set of twins jumping into a mineral pool but one look was all it took and they quickly departed along with their irresponsible parent . There was some music but it didn’t impact upon our relaxation. The crowd (that day )were mostly older folks who were very friendly. The front desk was also very warm and hospitable. My point ? Sometimes reviews are far from the truth or based upon failed expectations. Had I not been familiar with the place I would never have visited. Rest assured it is safe , it is clean and most of all ? It’s restorative!

Well, we certainly didn't stay in the room shown in the pictures! I think the main draw for this property is the abundance of pools fed by the hot (and cold) springs the city's named for. If that's your thing, go for it! It looks like the property was build in the 1960s and has never been renovated. Our room had sticky surface tops, dirty carpets, loose floor tiles in the restrooms (grout would literally pop out if you stepped on it), dirty sliding glass doors, stained bedsheets, a broken drain in the tub/shower, hair in the bathroom sink, and flaking paint in the sinks and on the toilet seat. Housekeeping was by request only because of Covid. The restaurant serves serviceable food (it's not great, but it works) and it's reasonably priced. The staff was all right. There were no customer service shining stars, but there were no horror stories, either. If you think you'll get a bargain during Coachella or Stagecoach, you will not. Their prices will at least double during those weekends. But if you share the room with several friends, the gouge will be less painful. I really wanted to like this place, but I left disappointed.

I stayed here in April of 2022 and came back to my room to find police outside because other visitors found cameras in their rooms. Waiting on the hotel to call because the staff told me they weren’t sure they could even give me a refund in this insane circumstance.

Staff for the most part was very friendly. The on site restaurant is very good and has a wife variety of choices. The swimming pool area is great and for the most part was relaxing. They did however throughout my 5 day stay have to close some of the pools and jacuzzi tubs for cleaning among other problems and one of the jacuzzi tubs had a thermostat issue and began registering 134 degrees. A couple of the pools had soda cans and debris floating in it. I had to let the front desk staff know about the issue. The rooms are in bad shape. I reserved a king room but dwas given a double. The room had insects and a horrible scent of sulphur remained in the room. The rooms are old and need a total overhaul. For the rate that was charged the owner needs to step up and do something. When I mentioned to the staff about the room they stated the ownership doesn't follow through with anything. Also customers are not allowed to use the business center but rather asked to email anything you need printed to the hotel. At one time it was probably a great place but needs to be brought up to a modern era. I also asked before I arrived about the pool area. I was told on the phone that I could also use the sister hotel " Miracle Springs" hotel next door. When I arrived I was told the opposite that they could come to our hotel but we couldn't use their spa services. Hotel is not honest.

This place could be amazing, is an old style motel that needs either restoring or renovating. The rooms are really large but very tired. There is virtually no sound proofing and we had a ground floor. The family upstair sounded like they were tap-dancing every time they walked around. It was Presidents weekend when we stayed and there were no other options in the vacinity of Joshua Tree NP. Being from the UK we didn't know about this holiday. When we arrived there was music blaring pool side. I mean at deafening levels... that continued all day until 20:30. But that wasn't the main issue.... guests are supposed to be out of the pool at 20:30... at 02:30 in the morning there were still guests in the pools screaming at each other, drunk, playing music. The 2nd night was the same but only until midnight. The pools the next day were filthy, they did clean them first thing in the morning and put in lots of detergent to kill the germs. This place is an accident waiting to happen. The place was really crowded during the day... music was blaring, kids everywhere, life guard with earphones in. People drunk as lords in the pool late at night!!! I definitely wouldn't stay here again as the management seems non existent. Its a shame because this could be a lovely place but it seems management are just running it as a frat house and to make as much money of alcohol, however it was old and young just getting drunk and being obnoxious. Only stayed here as everywhere else was full

In the extremely competitive hospitality business nothing stands more true than "you will never have another chance to make a first impression". However, most reviewers understand that sometimes things can go sideways & before writing a scathing editorial will give the business another chance. This is where our story starts: During a recent holiday weekend our reservation at a different hotel was misshandelt & we ended up at the only hotel with available vacancy - the Desert Hot Springs Spa Resort. Was the out of place & dated 80's stretched Limo parked in the driveway a feeble attempt in padding our expectations? We were greeted by front desk personell behind partitions with dollar bills strewn about. Was this a 50's Las Vegas cage? Or security deposits being paid in cash by patrons even though a credit card is required? Hmm, the tone is being set. Having checked in to our $200/night room on the first floor was breathtaking - literally. The air ducts, fans & plumbing were full of mold. The curtains old & discolored. At this point we just hoped to get some rest which was not to be had. The ceiling started leaking water. A maintenance person was promptly dispatched to our room and expressed sincere apologies & intentions to rectify the situation by "patching" the leak with grout. "Patching" an interior plumbing problem?? Because of the holiday weekend sellout the owner couldn't relocate us to another room but - to his credit - immediately offered a free night with food allowance on our next stay. We held our peace... A few weeks later - true to our second chances mantra - we revisited the hotel, were given a nicer upstairs room overlooking the pool area which actually had a nice vista towards the mountains with a balcony. Later that night - at 3:30am - we were privy to listening to our neighbor OUTSIDE on the balcony yelling about drug deals gone wrong & revenge killings being planned! True. It goes along with the kind of clientele this property attracts mixed with unsuspecting guests. Our verdict: We watched a hands-on owner that we believe actually cares about his business but is overwhelmed. So he's riding it into the sunset. The front desk personell is personable but "tired." The building decrepit & in need of much repair and renovation. But even with smaller investments this hotel could be more appealing. There's actually a really decent restaurant on site and we enjoyed the food. Too bad...

We stayed here on 11/13-11/14 and experienced terrible accommodations and room maintenance. The main pool was closed, which we were notified about, but we were not notified that the walk way to our room was also under construction. The "turf" that was being installed was laying over the top step of the main stairs which I tripped and fell over on my way up to the room. there was only a cone sitting at the top of the stairs that did not notify you of this hazard. The pool that was getting re-surfaced was not properly closed off which is very dangerous to the younger kids running around. As the "safety" for this, they put the lounge chairs around half of the pool and caution tape that was torn and laying on the ground. The room was in poor condition, starting with the front door , there was a large gap between the bottom of the door and the floor, the sink had very low water pressure which gave just a little trickle of water to come out of the sinks. The toilet had a chip out of the seat and was running all night long. The lotion that is supplied in the bathroom was completely empty that is usually suppose to be replaced between each visit of someone staying there. there was a large patch on the ceiling that im guessing was a leak that was covered up. the black out curtains were torn and in very poor shape, the sliding glass door latch was broken and they just drilled a hole to put a bolt to "lock" the door. There were missing light bulbs in the lamps next to the beds so I couldnt turn on the light next to our bed at all. The room was suppose to have 2 queen bed, which it very obviously had 2 full size beds that were bigger than the original twin size base they were sitting on. I have photos of all of these things as well as proof of everything. I would like a full refund of all of our charges for the night. This hotel is not properly described on your website and the pictures are very deceiving.

The place is falling apart. The rooms had air conditioners with no covers and full of dust. The pools had lights floating that needed repair. I found out while staying there they failed 3 health inspections and have homeless living on the premises. While I was staying a maid just walked in our room without knocking and did the same to a friend two times. They cancelled my reservation before I came and didn't tell me until I arrived but they did fix that situation. They had workers drilling with jack hammers on one of the pools on a Saturday until 4:00 pm. It was loud and dusty. I was really sad because the place used to be nicer and now they have no restaurant, massages or body workers, and no large pool. The owner just won't keep the place up unless forced by the health department. I recommend staying at their sister hotel which is newer and much nicer.

While the hotel is a little dated we found our stay pleasant. Staff was amazing, in particular Kylie, the lifeguard, who never stopped running around helping people. The many pools fed by natural mineral springs were crystal clear clean and ranged in temperature from cool to nice and hot, and the grounds were well-kept. We were there on a weekend and never felt unsafe. Hotel guest parking is gated making it a secure place to park your vehicle overnight. If you have your nose in the air, go to Palm Springs and pay three times the price. If you're down to earth like we are, we enjoyed our stay.

I am in Palm Springs for a wedding and decided to stay at the Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel…What a mistake. We drove through the town of Desert Springs and something was off. The town was a bit rundown, not walkabout or scenic. We drove up to the establishment and I immediately felt queasy. I did not feel safe. The lobby, parking area and the building looked like the set of horror movie. It is safe to say some of the guests staying there maybe homeless and the establishment doubles as a homeless shelter. We had a few rooms booked for our family but I wanted to get out of there. My cousin checked in and we went to his rooms. On our walk to the room, the hotel was more outdated and rundown than we thought. When we got to the room, it reeked of cigarette smoke and mildew. We went to the front desk and checked out my cousin’s reservation and canceled mine. We lost our money for the first night but I was glad to get outta there. We booked a hotel in Palm Springs seconds from the wedding venue This is a PSA - The photos on the website are VERY DECEIVING. They maybe from 20 years ago but the actually condition of the location is far from the pics on the website. Do Not Waste Your Money or Time.
