    Great stay with baby
Came here for the first time with our 18m baby and she had a blast! The resort is beautiful with great view and we especially love the kids pool. The whole resort is very kids friendly and there’s plenty of space for her to walk around and explore. The front desk made us feel very welcomed upon arrival and they offered free bottles of water. You can actually request more during the stay if you need to. The room is clean and spacious. Our room is next to the kids pool on the first floor which is convenient. There’s an activity room for the kids to do some drawing and watch tv on the first floor next to the pool. The kids pool is under 2 feet and our baby had such a great time there. I loved that she can stay in the water without a floatie. This is her first time in the pool and she absolutely loves it. There’s plenty of beach towel at the entry of the pool and you can order some snacks and drink by the pool as well. The only recommendation I will add is the menu selection. The whole resort has very limited food selection. Even the in room dining, the menu is about the same as the poolside menu. That’s very unfortunately since it’s very convenient to dine in the room with a baby. The breakfast buffet is great with plenty of selection and not to mention the great view! Buffet price is $39 per person. There’s hot food, cold plates, egg/waffle station, pastry and large selections of fruit. Overall we had a wonderful time with the family and will definitely be back in the future.

I am only reviewing the breakfast buffet
I have never stayed at this place (too close to where I live) so I am only reviewing their breakfast buffet. It is very good. Food is fresh, fruits are juicy and flavorful and the juices are mostly freshly squeezed and not out of a carton. Omelettes are made to order and the choice of items available for brunch is extensive and everyone will find something they like. I believe I paid $30 per person for the buffet but it well worth the price. Outdoor seating provides nice ocean views.
Thank you for your review. We are so glad you joined us for breakfast and we are glad that you enjoyed it. We hope to see you back again!

    Excellent Experience,
My wife and I enjoyed our quick getaway. Staff was extremely conscientious and considerate. We needed our room serviced before regular rounds. Five minutes after our call 4 members of the house cleaning team appeared and had the room sparkling in 10 minutes. Room is modern and very clean. We had the pool/resort view. You will get a great view of the harbor and ocean with the ocean view rooms. Hallways are clean. Location is great. You can easily get to Laguna Beach for more action. Dana Point is a bit more quiet and reserved. Pool areas were great especially if you have a family. Very much a relaxing resort feel. We would go back again if our future plans bring us to the Dana Point area.
Thank you for your 5 star review. We are delighted to hear that you and your wife enjoyed your getaway! We appreciate your compliments regarding our friendly staff and the resort grounds. We hope your travels do bring you back to Dana Point in the future. We'd love to welcome you back.

We really enjoyed our stay at this resort! It was very clean and everyone was super helpful- Madison & Maggy at the front desk were very accommodating when we wanted to switch rooms. Kevin & Bryan were great with handling our bags and got them to our room. Michael at the pool went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of all day. We will definitely be back soon!

Mixed experience - overwhelmed with groups over the weekend. The property location is lovely with great views. Expensive, valet only parking that gets VERY backed up during peak times and events. If you are a Marriott elite member don’t expect any real benefits or consideration at this property. Remodeled rooms were nice, although not well insulated from hallway noise (prevalent over the weekend). Breakfast choices are limited, a terrible continental buffet or a pricey full buffet in the more formal Knife restaurant setting. Only two small pools so crowded and noisy on the weekend. Resort fee charged for limited services. Did not meet expectations for a Marriott resort property.

I must admit that after reading the last several reviews before we went on our trip in early August, I was very nervous with all of the “commotion” going on at the hotel and that we would have a horrible stay….we even talked about booking somewhere else. But since we have stayed at this property numerous times over the past 30 years, we decided to try our luck, and if things got as bad as the previous reviews, then we would move hotels. I must tell you I am so glad we decided to stay at our favorite SOCAL location and we had a fabulous time. The staff couldn’t have been better, the hotel was fully staffed from what we could see, and never had a problem with any of the restaurants, front desk, and pool service. In our almost 10 days there, and we left early because of hurricane Hillary coming out way, we were never bothered by the commotion that occurred twice while we were there and honestly we could barely hear it from the pool. The staff has no idea when this commotion will occur and they clearly do their best to try to not disturb the guests and they do a great job! Kudos to Erica/XOffice who answered so many questions prior to our trip, and then kudos to Maggie/concierge, Bryce/Bellman, and in particular Roderigo, who was our fabulous housekeeper with his bright smile and attention to all that we asked for.… We can’t wait to return!

Double charged and no refund - avoid this hotel! I stayed at this hotel for a business trip in July 2023, and I regret it. The hotel double charged my credit card for the same night, and when I contacted them to fix the mistake, they refused to refund me. They claimed that I had booked two rooms, which was not true. I showed them my confirmation email and bank statement, but they still insisted that I was wrong. They were rude, unprofessional, and dishonest. This hotel is a scam. They are trying to rip off their customers by charging them twice for the same service. They don’t care about customer satisfaction or loyalty. They only care about making money. They have no respect for their guests or their rights. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It is not worth the hassle or the stress. There are many other hotels in the area that are better and cheaper. Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel at all costs. You will thank me later.

BEWARE!!!! This Hotel is under siege by hotel workers on strike. They are marching around the property and even at the front lobby door screaming at the top of their lungs banging pots and pans and using sirens. Once you get here they tell you you can cancel but obviously once you’re already here it’s probably too late . They should be sending everyone an email telling them what is going on but they aren’t. And PS it’s 5am and the strikers are screaming and banging their pans right below our balcony… i hope this helps someone in advance of any stay here..

The resort is lovely with nice views and easy walk to Marina and their many restaurants. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. It is also adjacent to a park used by the locals. All that being said, we felt it was over-priced. Valet parking only which can get costly and inconvenient. The buffet breakfast was $40 with no al a carte options. The continental breakfast was $20 and mostly pre-packaged. We did not have our rooms serviced. Don't know if they were short of help or still playing by the covid short cuts.

The hotel itself was pretty nice. The room was clean and the location was an ok spot. It was not as close to things like some of the reviews claimed it to be. -The bathroom didnt have a vent, so everytime we took a shower the smoke alarm went off if we didnt immediately close the door and keep it closed until steam subsided. -The valet lost my keys for awhile. My children and I was waiting for our car for about a total of 25 minutes. Every other group that came out for thier car got it in less then 5 minutes. Everytime we asked where my car was, they kept saying its on the way and they probably forgot to write the spot number on my keys. Finally I asked to speak with manager and he admitted that they cant find my keys. It irritated me that they tried to keep it a secret instead of just letting me know that they made a mistake. They finally found the keys and compensated me for valet and they were super nice to us for the rest of our stay. -We thought because it was a resort (an expensive one too), that they would have more entertainment/activities on the grounds, but all they had was a couple pools and hot tubs. It was kind of boring. -I did like that it was a trolly shuttle stop at the bottom of the property. Its a free shuttle that goes around the city and Lagoona Beach areas.

I have never felt more humiliated than I did by this staff. As a manager in hospitality, I’m absolutely disgusted. My family and I are from northern Arizona, and we decided to go out of town for summer break. After MUCH deliberation, I decided on Laguna Cliffs by Marriott in Dana Point, CA. It’s a resort, it’s right on the beach, and it seemed very family friendly. First off, there are large groups of hotel workers striking right on property and everyone is just kind of acting like it’s not there. Very loud and intimidating for anyone just pulling in. We had traveled for 9 hours so we were exhausted. I just looked right past it thinking it’s just normal stuff going on. When we arrived, we gave the valet our keys and removed all of our stuff we packed for vacation. Once inside I was told our room was not ready but we could have a room that would be facing the crowd of people striking, but that it was very loud. I obviously said no that I would wait. So we went back out to get our car and go get something to eat while we waited for our room. Once we had waited for a while, the valet manager came up to me and had explained that the tailgate of our suv had popped up on a speed bump and shattered the window and tailgate frame. Taken very off guard, I went to look at the damage. Seeing it is not safe to drive, I asked if they could provide a replacement vehicle while they had it looked at and fixed or while the claim was made. They did not but they bought my family and I lunch while they figured it out. The valet company was very helpful and really tried to remedy the situation. The real problem was the front desk manager. Short, brown haired older woman with some sort of accent. After 2.5 hours, we went back to the front desk to ask if the room was ready yet. They snobbishly told us that check in is not until 4 and that we needed to wait. Of course to this I tell them that we have no car because of valet and if they had any idea how long it would be. They continued to look at us and belittle us because we need a room. No one was listening so I told my family to come with me and we started to walk out to get some air when the front desk manager stepped in front of my wife and would not let her leave. I hadn’t noticed she was gone until a few seconds later so when I walked up the lady was telling us to leave. I, again, pleaded with her that we do not have a car and just need a minute. She told me that we would not be staying at this hotel and told me to stay outside, then they continued to bring all of my and my families stuff out and set it on the ground next to the garbage can. Of course, this is in the front lobby which is completely full of people for the Fourth of July. We stood outside and I didn’t know what to do. I ended up calling the police because we were stranded with all of our stuff, and also called Marriott. Once I was on the phone speaking to people, Jeff came out to smooth things over. “Of course you have a room here.” After that person so assuredly and loudly told the front lobby that me and my family aren’t staying there. So, ok we’re supposed to have a room again. So we wait, expecting the hotel to contact us once the room is ready, like they stated they would. We wait another 2 hours, then I go back to up to ask about if the room was ready yet or not. Apparently they had cancelled my reservation and never decided to reopen it or do anything about it once Jeff had promised us a room. A room I booked months in advance and am paying good money for. After being told to not cause a problem or I will be escorted off the property, they finally gave me my room keys. I’ve never been so helpless and humiliated in my entire life. And this is from a hotel when I’m paying good money for rest and relaxation. I just don’t understand how this happened and honestly this hotel shouldn’t be in business. Literally spend your money ANYWHERE else. Again, completely disgusted.
