This is my favorite restaurant outside of Reykjavík, the monkfish (Steinbítur) is simply amazing!, i look to this place as a hidden gen and without doubt, its my favorite retreat in Iceland, very “homy” but deserves a michelin star

We absolutely loved this hotel out in the middle of nowhere. You are there for the puffins which nest nearby. The rooms are very simple, including no television. If you need amenities, do not come here. I am not a foodie so I rely on others on whether the food is good and it seemed most liked it. Breakfast also was simple, breads, fruit, cereal, etc. It was nice to walk along the water in the morning. A major highlight was that the owner gave us a walking tour of his village along with its history. Do not skip this hotel. I think the only negative seemed to be the walkway between the rooms and the desk/dining room. It was wooden and I think a bit difficult for rolling suitcases.

My room in the main building was very spartan -- king bed and not much else (no TV, no A/C, no safe, no fridge, no artwork) but it did have free internet. Others in the group had nicer, renovated rooms but no internet. We were only here for 1 night so not the end of the world. Staff made up for it with exceptional service and good food. We had a nice dinner buffet and the food was very good. Nice simple breakfast buffet -- focused more on European items like meat, bread & cheese and omitted American items like bacon, scrambled eggs and pastries. After dinner, the owner entertained us with some Icelandic folk songs and will be our tour guide tomorrow when we go to the nearby Puffin Rookery -- which is the main reason we're here in the first place. Seeing the puffins close up will make everything worthwhile.

The guest house dormitory was extremely noisy as everything echoed in it. You could hear everything through the walls. It was clean and the beds were comfy for twin beds. Towels were softer than most. We stayed here two nights and the hostess/owner wasn’t overly friendly or talkative like most. However the young lady with red hair in the dining room was exceptional. friendly and ready with a smile. The breakfast was adequate like most of Iceland. The big log and rocks you had to climb over to get to the boardwalk connecting the buildings was a little cumbersome with luggage. We had dinner here and most thought the meal was fine of soup, fish, salad and potatoes and couscous. Pricing was inconsistent with meal and drinks. Some seemed to overpay and other underpaid. Soup bread and water was 2500 isk while full meal and 3 beers was 4200 and others were charged 4400 for just meal no drink. No one knew if drinks were included or not. One night is sufficient here.

Room Tip: Very tiny town with really only the puffin colony nearby. Nothing else.

Having been a tour guide on and off in Iceland for 20 years I can say that the reception in Álfheimar is the kind of reception that makes me proud to be an Icelander. A part of me wishes that this hidden nature pearl to stay hidden forever. But another part of me wishes this place to get all the good clients they deserve. The owner and staff in Álheimar have been extremely helpful giving tips on the best hikes around. Borgarfjörður Eystri is hands down one of my favorite places in Iceland. And God knows there are many places to choose from.

We stayed here as part of a sheep herding (rettir) tour. Loved the village, the people, and great hiking nearby. The restaurant is the best food we had in our whole 10-day Iceland trip. The room was comfortable, with a spacious bathroom, and close to everything in the village.

We had the pleasure of staying here for our first anniversary. The place is super clean and the views are amazing. What makes this place really special though are the staff super friendly and always willing to help. We are so pleased we decided to stay here as part of our tour round Iceland. We also ate here and the food was delicious and plentiful.
