I can't say anything bad about the Ayres Hotel and the Hotel Restaurant. The room was perfect. I have a bad back and was worried about the mattress and I'm happy to say I had no problems. Very comfortable bed. The restaurant food was 5 star and the service was awesome! The Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful! I had an awesome stay at the Ayres!!

The hotel has many open-air areas which may be nice in the right weather conditions. Unfortunately with it being winter, hotel management leaves all hallway doors open throughout the hotel on all floor levels allowing the outside temperature to set the interior hallways and lobby temps. This of course means that the average temperature in the common areas of the hotel averaged around 40-45 degrees in the morning while we sat waiting for our shuttle, and about 45-48 degrees in the evening when we moved about the evening. Again, this was inside the hotel, even during rainy days, with all the hallway doors open. Consistently across every week of my stay (and each week was a different room), the mattresses were all concaved (I tried both beds when available in a room). Whether a side-sleeper, stomach or back, the level of depression on the mattresses across the board are not conducive to spinal alignment, or healthy sleep habits. Personally, I had to start booking chiropractor visits after each week in the hotel because as a side sleeper – having my body curved for that many hours over night caused for restless sleep continuously. These levels of broken-down beds really makes one wonder how old the mattresses might be or whether the hotel is keeping up with standards to replace them. I would imagine if a normal mattress for home use should be replaced about every 6 years, I can’t imagine how much sooner a hotel mattress would need to be swapped out with so many more bodies going across them. While I appreciated the food at the restaurant and the generous portions, it became more apparent over the weeks that the staff in the restaurant had little to no regard for our business group staying at the hotel. More and more frequently we would be ignored and had to chase staff down to even place an order, ask for a check, ask to make a payment then wait for the payment to be processed before we could leave. The restaurant automatically includes a tip in the total bill for our group, so they are receiving their gratuities, despite ignoring us. These past weeks none of our group had even bothered to eat here because it took us 15+ minutes just to place an order, and another 20 mins to get check after asking 3 times for it. As a former restaurant manager, and business owner, I cannot recommend this kind of service to anyone . I don’t consider it a true “amenity” for the Ayres. There is a separate building for all suites. This is where the gym in the photos is located. Only the suites have microwaves in room, or balconies. All standard rooms will not have a microwave, and you will have to find one in a hallway near vending machines. The hotel was clean, the rooms were clean. Staff (outside the restaurant) were always courteous and quick to respond.

Staying at the Ayres hotel in Costa Mesa, CA is simply above and beyond most standards. I have been here many times. I have also stayed at almost every Ayres hotel in California because you get a clean, friendly and beautiful atmosphere. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They have a restaurant downstairs with the most delicious food and the staff are wonderful. Every morning you can go downstairs and get free freshly baked muffins and coffee. Then in the evening around 5:30 PM you can go to the front desk and enjoy the free fresh baked cookies. I think that’s my favorite part lol. I noticed that many people staying here were airline pilots, stewardesses and stewards. This makes for a very quiet and enjoyable stay. It’s also great having the pool and Jacuzzi all to yourself. If you’re looking for a family vacation, a business trip, or just a couple needing to get away. This is definitely the place to go. I am already looking forward to coming back.

If you are looking for a place to stay in the Costa Mesa are, this is your place. This is the second time that I have stayed at this hotel with a student and her family for a contest, and I hope to stay here if I ever get to come back. As a traveler with mobility issues, I was very impressed by their roll-in shower junior suite. It was roomy and everything worked well for me, especially the automatic door into the room. I could tell that thought went into planning the room and was glad that it was fairly close to the elevator as well. The path to the room and in the lobby area were great and very user-friendly. I will note that the door into the "suite building" is not automatic, which could cause a problem for a solo traveler using a wheelchair (there is at least one nice accessible room in the main part of the hotel - I was in that room last year). I love the fact that all of the handicapped spots are well-located and roomy and that there are several of them at both buildings. The hotel is very clean and well-taken care of. The bed and pillows were wonderful, and the heating/air unit worked well. It is located in a nice area and convenient to major roads. There is also a gas station nearby where you can go get essentials if needed. The lobbies in both buildings have nice areas to gather, and the courtyard in the main building is beautiful. We have not eaten in the restaurant, but we enjoyed desserts from there in the courtyard last year. Perhaps the best part about the hotel is the awesome staff. The front desk people are friendly and helpful. We had to leave our bags with them twice, and they handled that very well. One reservation hiccup was fixed without any issues (thank you, Israel). When the vending machine would not dispense water late one night, they sent a complimentary bottle over to me with their security officer (that was very nice as I needed one for my CPAP and did not feel up to going over to their main building). And to top it all off....there are cookies in the lobby for guests. I highly recommend this hotel!!!

Very friendly staff. The property is quiet large. Very close to John Wayne/Orange County airport. They do have a hotel shuttle. I was there for a very short period of time but my room was large and seemed clean. I enjoyed that my room had a mini fridge and microwave. Bed was comfortable. Had a deep jacuzzi bath but i did not use it. Overall lots of space and slept well, seemed to be a pretty average hotel that tries to add the elegant decor flare, but I wasn’t there for long enough to judge the rest of the property!

Our stay was a pleasant surprise. Nothing like the usual generic stay at most hotels. The Ayres had interesting history and decor. The model ships throughout and use of stonework was beautiful. Our room was large and comfortable and the parking was very easy I would definitely stay again.

My room was spacious and comfortable. However, like many higher end hotels, simple amenities such as a variety of free coffees in the lobby throughout the day were missing. I would have appreciated vending machines or a small shop with a variety of snacks or even ice cream for when I returned late in the evening, but with a craving for just a little something sweet before bedtime.

I was among many people who stayed at the Ayres Hotel during this conference. Every employee was more than helpful, polite, friendly with a smile on their faces. We had all questions answered promptly and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Breakfast in the dining room was delicious and quick before we had to leave. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and the coffee in the room was even delicious! A rare thing in hotels! The hotel was close to the airport and the church we needed to be at. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are in the area.
