Cute rooms, very efficient self check in, nice sitting area out front with a water filling station. The Wi-Fi only worked with a line of site to the office, meaning it didn’t work in the rooms at all. Our biggest issue is with our room (#1), the plantation shades didn’t filter out the light very well. The room didn’t need a night light as the street lights illuminated the room all night. Easy walking to everything in Coronado - only two parking spots, though.

Loved staying at El Rancho motel. Would stay again in the future. Cute little motel with outside patio, to be shared by all guests, to enjoy morning coffee or afternoon wine. Nearby restaurants and easy walk to the hotel del Coronado and beaches. In room coffee and all amenities that are needed for an overnight stay. Comfy bed, microwave, small refrigerator, keith coffee maker and real coffee cups (not paper), towels for beach and shower, parking on site or on street.

Arrived to El Rancho Motel and was very pleasantly surprised. The room was small and clean. It is a 2.5 star hotel but the vibe is wonderful. The beds were amazing! Had a really good sleep. We arrived late and was worried about the check in process but it was all super easy. Stayed for 2 nights and unfortunately the weather was not great so we could not enjoy our coffee or a glass of wine at the porch, which i something I was looking forward to do. The location of the hotel is great and I if you are looking for a place to stay the night and do not want to spend a lot of money this is the place!

My family of five stayed at El Rancho for two nights in July 2022. We had a top notch experience. Checking in was very turnkey and easy. We loved the decor and design of all of the outdoor seating areas. Our room was impeccably clean and very comfortable. All in all, it was a flawless stay. Highly recommended!

The room was filthy dirty and gross! We stayed for about 10 minutes, and had to clean the bathroom before we could use it! We were charged $30 and laughed about it later, saying it was the first time we had to pay someone to clean their bathroom!
We couldn't get out fast enough! REALLY AWFUL!

I arrived at El Rancho Motel in Coronado during the summer and had a very pleasant surprise. Coronado is a wonderful Island that friends of mine had recommended (just off of San Diego). The rooms were absolutely gorgeous and we really appreciated the personal attention from Lupe at the front desk.

I sincerely recommend El Rancho to anybody visiting Coronado Island.

80.00 a night, around the Coronado area I would say that's not too bad if you're just looking for a place that's not too expensive, too fancy, or just a room at a decent price. It's a cottage style motel ran by an older woman, but it's nicely kept. The room I had was decently sized, plenty of parking was available in the back, and all in all very simple. Cleanliness was average throughout the room. But when you're around Coronado, do you really spend a good amount of time in your room? If you do, you're doing something wrong. Everything is within walking distance to enjoy the restaurants, the bay front, and so forth.

We had a great stay and highly recommend this motel. It is our second visit here in two years and we had no issues whatsoever - like some of the other people posted about. There is a very cute, yet small courtyard with flowers in front. Parking is easiest in the back of the motel.

The rooms are small, but we did not spend all that much time in them as we were at the beach or downtown walking about the majority of the time. A mini refrigerator and microwave are in the room. There are plantation shutters on the windows, lots of granite tile and mirrors to make the room feel larger along with clean cut Ikea furniture. The room, floors and linens were clean. There were no bugs seen nor any bug carcasses. The air conditioning worked fine. The fridge kept the food cold and the room was cleaned, fresh linens and bed made up daily unless we asked them not too. Some picky people might notice fingerprints on the door and some walls... but the floors, sink, bathroom were clean.

Lupe is older like the previous posts said. However, she did not seem to have dementia to us and we talked to her on the phone before we showed up twice, when we picked up our keys and when we needed another roll of toilet paper. She was very friendly and our bill was correct.

The only complaint I had was my neck hurt after sleeping on the bed. That was not Lupe or the Motel's fault - rather I needed an adjustment before I left and did not get it done. Bring your own pillow if you have neck problems like I do.

I realize that many people who go stay on Coronado are going to be in the upper echelons of the income bracket... but to a family on a budget who would like a nice vacation... on a clean & safe beach... in a town you can walk from one end to the other at night and not get mugged... then this Motel is a great find! We HAVE stayed at horrible places in awful locations... so we know what bad is (think feet turn black walking across the floor and bug carcasses laying about)... in contrast... this Motel is very nice. If you like to spend dollars and have perfection in the form of a large room, mint on your pillow and no kid fingerprints on the door or some walls... then you need to take yourself to one of the other Bed and Breakfasts or hotels that charge upwards of $200-400 dollars a night on Coronado.

Again... We were very pleased and recommend this motel for the second time around (See my first review from Aug 2010).

Room Tip: Rooms to the back are quieter... I have heard rooms to the front are larger.

Hi...I'm thinking about booking this motel in July this year. Is it walking distance to the beach?

It's a walk to the beach however the bus runs for free during the summer. Your closer to the Ferrys landing which has a little beach. But it's a walk to the beach... But this little hotel is nice. You will love it. 👍😊

Dear Nancy, We are half a block away from Bus Stop 901. Every 30 min a bus takes you to downtown San Diego, 5 minutes travel time. The bus stop in downtown is about 10-15 minute walk to the convention center. An other way to get to the convention center is via Ferry, it is about 4 blocks from us and takes you directly to the Convention Center. Kindly, Irene
