Booked in anticipation of a relaxing weekend for Mother's Day. We were greeted by a friendly staff member Saturday afternoon. I asked for a complimentary bicycle, and was told that due to the virus, they did not have bikes available. There went the bike trip plans. So we figured we would stick around for the happy hour...nope, same problem, not offered at this time; along with the breakfast. So much for having a quiet breakfast in house. So we had to find a place to eat, wait in line, and bring it back to the hotel. I was told by staff that due to the lower price, I really wasnt losing anything in the deal, because I wasn't paying for anything I wasn't getting! No, no! When I paid for the room, the price, as advertised, included certain amenities that weren't provided! Sunday morning I asked if we could be few minutes late in checking out. I was told that per policy, yes I was aware of the policy, and that is why I asked; that check out time was 11:00 a.m. and if I wasn't out by then, I would be changed the $250.00 late check out fee. OUTRAGEOUS! Do your homework before you book as I was misled and extremely disappointed!!

Response from Susan Nelson, General Manager at 1906 Lodge

Dear Misled, I sincerely apologize. Our staff is upfront and honest with all guests concerning the limited guest amenities due to the circumstances that surround us all right now. Our rates have been heavily discounted as a result of these temporary changes. Deemed as full service restaurant, we are not yet granted permission to serve food to our guests. Other gust amenities have been suspended temporarily for the safety of our guests. I do apologize that his information was not made clear to you at the time of booking. Limitations and regulations change quickly as you now. We follow the guidelines and daily updates from the California Hotel and Lodging Association and our local Mayor and Coronado City Council. I understand this was not the typical experience of a 1906 Lodge guest. Even in trying times there is no excuse for a staff member delivering news to you in such a harsh manor. For that again, I apologize. I invite you to call me if you would like to continue this conversation in person. Susan Nelson, Manager 1906 Lodge 619 437 1900

We just love this property and have been staying at the 1906 since shortly after they opened in 2009. They have done a wonderful of job continuing to keep it a lovely experience through the staff, rooms/suites, common areas and amenities. Susan, the head innkeeper, has been with the lodge since they opened in 2009. She has done a terrific job of finding and hiring excellent staff throughout the years. The innkeepers and housekeepers and so kind, helpful and thoughtful. They go out of their way to be sure that your stay is the best it can be. This time we stayed in North Island which is one of the suites on the second floor. It is a lovely unit and we were able to take advantage of the special for a 30% reduction when you stayed three or more nights through the end of February. They run many specials throughout of the year that are shown on the website. We have stayed in both the lodge rooms and the suites. They all have some great things to offer. We found a lovely bouquet of roses and some chocolates in our room with a card welcoming us back. They always seem to find a way to make you feel special. They still have the free underground parking, beach chairs/towels/umbrellas, bikes to use, breakfast, happy hour and cookies throughout the day. They are a short walk to the beach, Hotel Del and many restaurants. They are happy to make suggestions and reservations for anything you might like. They have added mimosa's to their breakfast which is great treat and you are able to make them yourself. We thought the food was really delicious on this trip for both breakfast and happy hour. Every time we return and leave, we are welcomed with open arms and hugs. Susan and her staff are so warm and friendly in every way. We only hope that God will bless with another visit in the future.

Upscale, quiet and a short walk away from the Del Coronado,Orange Avenue and the beach, this has been our go -to place for years. Our fourth visit confirmed it’s still delightful. High quality bedding and towels, comfortable rooms, attentive service and an included breakfast that offers fruits, cereals, pastries plus an array of heartier hot options like quiche or French Toast. Plus innumerable restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. ( We love Bluewater Grill and Village Pizza). We are fanatics about quiet and have never been disappointed-at 1906. Underground parking is available but designed for compact or mid size vehicles... parking a G-Wagen, truck or very large car would be on the street but the neighborhood is very safe. There is no pool but with the beach close by, a minor point. We have walked at all hours and never felt uncomfortable. No need to think twice— if it’s a quiet, relaxing and upscale stay you have in mind 1906 is the place.

Quiet and peaceful property, daily breakfast with bottomless Mimosas (everyday!), complimentary wine and cheese hour daily at 5 pm, walks on the beach and time to daydream- all make for a wonderful Coronado getaway. Happy to have you back with us! Thanks. BTW, larger autos do fit in our underground parking structure, the entry and departure is just a bit easier with a small or mid sized auto. Hope to see you again. Remember to #bookdirect! Susan Nelson

Planned a three day getaway in San Diego. Originally decided on the big Marriott Marquis at the harbor. Found a midweek rate at the Lodge and we are so pleased we chose this lovely small hotel. Stayed in a beautiful Grand King Spa Suite. Perfect! Wonderful breakfast and happy hour offerings. Walking distance to everything we needed. Peaceful, quite neighborhood. Staff is friendly and professional. Facility is spotless and beautifully decorated.
