El Cordova Hotel's location earns high marks for its convenience to the beach and local attractions, according to numerous guests. While the service often receives commendations for its attentiveness, some guests have encountered issues that went unresolved. Noise can be a problem, with disturbances from street activity, loud restaurants, and problematic AC units.
Although the cleanliness is generally applauded, the rooms receive mixed reviews, ranging from spacious to outdated, with some maintenance concerns. Despite appreciating the hotel's Spanish charm and atmosphere, travelers caution that it may not offer sufficient value due to the noise, additional parking fees, and lack of expected amenities.

Detailed Reviews
This was the first time staying on Coronado Island and El Cordova Hotel and what an amazing stay for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens)
First, the location can’t be beat!! Short 5 min. walk to the beach. Just have to cross Orange Street. Great restaurant options for dine-in and take-out, all within walking distance or right on property like Miguel’s and Brigantine. (Both delicious!)
Second, having the extra space like a full kitchen, living room and 2 bathrooms made our 4 day stay even more comfortable and enjoyable. The rooms were very clean with beautiful pieces of Spanish style furniture.
The courtyard is so quaint and super clean with fountain, lovely flowers and greenery to enjoy your morning coffee or after dinner drinks. The pool was great for the kids to get ‘warmed’ up after being in cool Pacific Ocean waters and to get sand off of them. :)
I read previous reviews about street noise or restaurant noise but it dies down after 8:30pm. Also, if you close your windows, you can hardly hear any of it. The loudest sound was the garbage pickup in the mornings but again, closing windows helped a lot with that and it didn’t come super early. (If your room is on that side of the hotel)
The front desk and all staff were super friendly! They have beach chairs and umbrellas you can borrow free of charge and delicious strong coffee in the lobby every morning.
Don’t hesitate to book this little gem!! We will definitely be back soon!!

I booked this hotel after countless hours of searching where to stay in San Diego. A friend of mine is from there and suggested staying in Coronado since I have a baby and it’s a little out of the craziness of downtown and PB areas. Hotel Del Coronado was a little pricey and then I stumbled upon this little gem. It’s so cute, we were able to get a suite for less than most other regular rooms in the area.. in my research I noticed parking in San Diego was expensive, most hotels tacking on another $30-50/day plus we had a large SUV since we have a baby so It would really add up.. we wound up finding street parking every day/night within a 5 min walk!! The hotel also said in case we didn’t find street parking It was $20/day at a lot near them which was still much cheaper then other hotels, but like I said drive around there’s a bunch of parking in the streets behind the hotel! The room itself was perfect for my little family, they provided a crib for my son and the kitchen was perfect for heating up formula and storing stuff.. Miguel’s on site was delicious, the beach is a 5 min walk across the street .. other restaurants within walking distance .. anytime we would go into San Diego town we couldn’t wait to get back to Coronado and to our cute little hotel ! we can’t wait to come back !! Also shoutout to the room attendant Ema made the cutest little towel yoda!!!

Hi Marissa T. I gotta say, I absolutely love reviews like this. You made my job so much easier here. Normally I would respond and try to point out some of the finer points of the hotel that I'd want others to read about, but you touched on everything. Anything I would say would just be redundant, so I'll just say thank you for noticing the little things are team does for our guests. Ema will be very happy about the shout out. It was a pleasure having you and your family with us, and we look forward to having you back as our guest.

I have stayed at a few different hotels on Coronado Island over the years and the El Cordova Hotel is by far the best. Our room overlooked the fountain and the Del. It was spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable. It was a bit noisy on Saturday night (restaurant in the courtyard) but that is to be expected and it didn’t last too long. The only issue was that the stairs up to our room were rather steep which was difficult for my mom. She managed but I think we would have to request a room on the ground floor next time. You do have to walk around the block should you wish to use their parking and they do charge so be sure to figure that into your budget. This hotel is an excellent option if you want to look at or be near the Del but don’t want to stay there. I really think the Del has gone down hill over the years, it is overpriced and has lost its mystique. We loved the people at the El Cordova Hotel and Miguel’s, the lovely restaurant nearby, is affordable and serves delicious food. We also felt safe traveling here during this Pandemic. Fresh towels and coffee were delivered in a basket by our door when we needed them. In addition, beach towels are available at the pool and a shop is on site should you wish to rent beach chairs, bikes, etc. We look forward to our next trip!

Hi alanasam. It is such a great thing to read that our guests are feeling safe during these crazy times. The safety of our guests is of the utmost importance to us and we have stepped up our already stringent cleaning policies and procedures. We understand that parking can be a bit of a challenge on Coronado, and we try to minimize that challenge by offering our guests reserved off-site parking at a nominal cost ($20 per day). This is completely optional and any one of our front desk team will be more than happy to give any information you might want about free parking around the hotel. The next time you stay with us, please be sure to request a room on the ground floor. We know our steps aren't for everybody. We try to assign all of our requests first, then assign rooms based on availability. So definitely let us, or any other hotel you may stay at, what you need. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a wonderful review. We look forward to having you back as our guests.

We stayed at the Cordova for my husband’s weekend getaway. The room was very comfortable and we were so surprised to find it had a full little kitchen. They had dishes and pans and even wine glasses. We weren’t planning on cooking but we will definitely stay here again and take advantage of it when we come back with family. The coffee was delicious and so appreciated. The bedding was very pretty and the bed was very comfortable to sleep on. The tile in the bathroom was so cute and kept in theme with the hotel. Our room was directly behind the Miguel’s restaurant on site and I thought the noise would be too much at night but it wasn’t, the windows kept the noise at bay and it was actually nice to hear people mingling and enjoyed the music. Covered parking is a little down the street for an additional fee and was totally worth it. We got to enjoy a walk and found our way through the alleys which was nice. We walked to breakfast at Clayton’s, had dinner at the Bluewater Boathouse Seafood grill, enjoyed coffee and a muffin at Clayton’s walk up window on another night, and across to the Hotel Coronado to walk the grounds and beach. The hotel is centrally located to lots of shops and eateries and made not needing a car even better! They text us in the day of our trip to ask if we needed anything, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and we checked out via text as well. They were kind enough to let us check in early and check out late which made our trip perfect! Honestly we loved it and will most definitely be back. Thank you for making our weekend unforgettable.

Hi MrsMinnieG. I'll be honest... This review seemed a little daunting to reply to at first glance. I said to myself, "Self? How the heck am I gonna respond to all of this information?" Then, after I read it, and stopped smiling, I saw that you did all the hard work for me. You gave us such a wonderful review, I don't have to address any grievances. It is so detailed and perfectly written, I don't have to add anything that may have been missed. This is by far the best review we have gotten so far. If any other travelers have any questions after reading this review, then I would advise them to read it again, because you covered everything. Thank you so much for sharing this experience with others. We look forward to celebrating next year's birthday with you, too (hopefully, you don't wait that long)!

This was the first time we've stayed at El Cordova. We've been to Coronado Isalnad in the past and stayed at other hotels but El Cordova is one of our favorites now. The rooms are quaint with Spanish flare, comfy beds and bedding. I can't say enough about their location, a very short 5min walk across the street down the walkway of the famous Hotel del Coronado and you are on the beach. Surrounding the hotel are plenty of eateries all within walking distance. We parked once when we arrived and never needed to drive anywhere as we planned to just hang out on the beach. I especially appreciated in place of housekeeping cleaning the room (available per request) they give you a replenish basket full of clean towels, bathroom and room amenities. Amanda at the front desk was awesome and fun! Definitely would recommend El Cordova, we'll be back for sure.

We're even more delighted to have made it on the favorites list, because that's not an easy feat. Also, thank you for recognizing our Housekeeping efforts as well as Amanda's hard work. She has captured the hearts of many guests since she's been with us and we could not have asked for a better person to join our team. The El Cordova is a nice hotel, clean, pleasant staff, and right in the middle of the action.
We stayed in a one bedroom #47 suite. The bed was very comfy, kitchen was ok could use some updates but mostly we used the fridge and microwave which seemed new. There was a small table and two chairs, small stove and apt fridge and small microwave. The kitchen had dishes for 4, glasses, pans, and flatware. One thing we missed was paper towels.
The living room had a nice sofa, (sofa bed) and chair, with big screen tv. Could have used some more plugs for phone charging. The bathroom wAs clean, tub shower, single sink. Definitely needed more counter space.
Over all our stay was pleasant, the pool was hardly used. The beach was few minutes walk. As we were there during covad 19 inside dinning was changed to outside only.
We did use the optional parking in the garage , parking meters during the week are only 2 hours and not much free parking. This is our second time in Coronado nice vacation spot.

Hi wallybeary. I'm gonna be completely honest with you... I sincerely appreciate this review for it's content. It is a very no nonsense, well written critique of our hotel. We're very happy that you chose us for your second visit to Coronado and that we were able to make your visit a good one. We updated all of our rooms a couple of years ago, and as we did, we also wanted to keep the old world, Spanish feel of the hotel that our guests have come to know us by. We have paper towels, as well as some other kitchen amenities, available upon request. I apologize if this was not communicated to you during your stay. Thank you for your feedback regarding the phone charging plugs. We've been thinking about replacing our outlets with some that have integrated usb ports in them. We'll definitely do more research into this option. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with others, and we look forward to having you back as our guest.

We’ve been staying at the El Cordova for the last 6 years, we had our wedding reception in their courtyard, all our guests stayed there, and we come back every year to celebrate and reminisce. The customer service has always been exceptional, but this time, they REALLY stepped up their game and it showed! We were escorted to our room, gifted with a bottle of wine and chocolates, had our room upgraded, the bathroom amenities were updated, and even when we put the “do not disturb” sign on the door handle to indicate we didn’t need anything, a basket of fresh towels, washcloths, and coffee was left at the front door. The day we checked in they were also installing a new fire pit and conversation area which is a beautiful addition. The El Cordova will always be our favorite place (not to mention the food at Miguel’s is phenomenal), thank you for always making us feel like family!

Flew to Coronado for a weekend wedding. Booked two of the two bedroom suites and 2 one bedroom rooms. The hotel is nicely renovated and charming. Front desk staff friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Suites roomy. A warning about construction saws and banging under one of our suites would have be appreciated. The restaurant staff below the other suite could be conscientious about guests sleeping above. We awoke one morning to the sound of chairs and tables being tossed around. Also, a hotel staff member popping balloons in the echoing courtyard’s fountain. All around 7am. You don’t pay $300+ a night per room to get scared awake suddenly.

Hello emmalouisemosele2020. Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at our hotel. I sincerely apologize for the noise issues you had during your stay. The balloons and the construction noise are definitely not an every day occurrence here. We are getting a new meeting space ready and are in the final stages of the remodel, so that noise will not be an issue the next time you stay with us. I will also speak with the restaurant management in regards as to how they get ready for their business day, in order to avoid any more grievances of this nature. We appreciate your feedback and hope you will give us an opportunity to better serve you in the near future.

El Cordova hotel was excellent. This was my family’s second time staying at this hotel. The hotel is built entirely in Spanish manner. Beautiful tiled red roofs. The rooms are super clean. Housekeeping made the bed daily, cleaned the room and bathroom daily, and supplied fresh towels as needed. Beautiful hotel. Great swimming pool with warm water and a nice hot tub.

Ideal location, best value, El Cordova offers swimming pool, jacuzzi, bbqs, and amenities. Is a few steps from the beach, variety of restaurants, The Hotel Del, shopping, shady patios, bike rentals, and has a friendly staff. It has been recently updated and has retained the old spanish style with beautiful new landscaping, outdoor seating areas and fountains. Family friendly and pets are accepted. We prefer the one bedroom apartment , room 103, with a full kitchen, dining room, living room and full bath as shown in its brochure. Most rooms are upstairs with no elevator but the staff is very accommodating with the luggage. The stairs to our preferred suite are not steep, there is a landing between the stair levels and they do not pose a problem for my elderly husband. This room is away from the street side, quiet and the trees outside the windows provide nice shading. In the bedroom you can hear the fans from the restaurant and we had to keep the windows closed. This suite has lots of windows that can be opened for ventilation and enjoyment of the cool ocean breezes on a hot day. The new windows behind the sofa are little tricky to open because of the shutters, but manageable. You will not be disappointed.

Hi 2worldtravelers2. I usually come up with something clever to say that replies to our guest's review and subtly boasts about our hotel. Your review left me speechless (which is difficult for me, because I talk... a lot!) Thank you so much for taking the time to write such an articulate, thoughtful and thorough review of your visit. If this doesn't make people want to stay here, then I don't know what will. Just want to add one thing... while we do love pets very much, we only allow certified service animals as guests. Have a wonderful Fall season and stay safe. We look forward to having you back as our guest.

Yes they have window unit air conditioning
Until February 15th, 2022, masks are required to be worn while indoors by everyone.
Yes, we have hand sanitizers located throughout the hotel
If possible, I would forgo the 2 bedroom and get a 1 bedroom on the first floor (there are no 2 bedroom suites on the first floor). There are no elevators so getting a stroller or wagon up those steep steps will be difficult. The 1 bedroom suites have a decent sized bedroom, full kitchen, and living area. You could easily fit the crib in your bedroom with you or put it in the living room. You can also order food from Vons to be delivered to the hotel and the staff will stock it in the frig for you. So easy to have your family's fav food & snacks all ready for you when you get there!
We stayed in a suite on the second floor that overlooked the pool. It had a balcony and we often had our morning coffee there. The room was quiet. We can't wait to go back next year!
Parking in the garage is the most convenient, but parking on the street is the most economical.
