Nestled in a prime location with scenic vistas, Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa captivates many guests, though some find access to the resort less than ideal. While the atmosphere of spacious rooms and unexpected bathtubs is frequently appreciated, reviewers have called out the need for room repairs and a more thorough cleaning regimen. The amenities receive a mixed response, with the beautiful surroundings offset by a perceived scarcity of features like robes and hot tubs. Experiences with the staff vary, with reports of both professionalism and indifference, and several guests question the resort's overall value.

For an older property, this Marriott offers very generous sized rooms, large bathrooms, and nice size balconies. We found the room to be clean and comfortable. The property is lovely on the water, has a nice pool and great spot for outdoor dining. My only complaint was that as a Marriott Bonvoy member, I’d requested extra towels in advance on my Bonvoy app and did online check in. When we arrived in our room, there was literally one bath towel. No wash cloths, bath mat or hand towels. We called the front desk and 30 minutes later they brought towels but not what we requested. Additionally, the tv remote didn’t work so once again, called the front desk who sent Engineering up. I also felt that due to COVID, the TV remote should have been wrapped in plastic or in a bag, and there should have been notice in the room that it had been deep cleaned and sanitized as many other resorts do.

Would rate 3.5 stars out of 5 if we could. Location is beautiful with scenic bay views and easy access to all of Coronado Island via shuttle or car. Also easy access airport, Zoo, and downtown. Had executive suite with two large balconies. Room and balconies were spacious. Staff were very nice, but obviously stretched extremely thin. The property offers beach chairs (2/room), towels, and boogie boards included in the resort fee.

Check in was extremely slow. We waited in the elite line for 45 minutes while the regular line moved at an appreciably faster pace. They did offer us a gift upon checking in including a handy, packable Bonvoy backpack and water bottle which I used for the reminder of our trip. There is only one working elevator and the walk to our room was far (0.25 -0.33 mile one way). Would not recommend this property for anyone with mobility issues.

Our suite was huge but in need of a refresh (chipped paint on wooden cabinets, worn deck furniture, and just seemed meh-ok), room cleanliness was 7/10 (hair on floors, crumbs under sofa cushions for sofa bed, stains on the wall (that could be wiped off). And the parking garage in disrepair.

Grab and go food was pretty good. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately, there were too many negatives for us to rate this property higher or stay again.

This was my second stay at a Marriott since Covid 19 and again they did a very good job following the rules. The rooms are quite large with nice size patios and seemed to have new furnishings. I do have 2 suggestions though. They should replace the old refrigerators that do not have a freezer and are located on the floor so are very hard to get to. Also, the coffee pot and coffee is really terrible and should be replaced. Bath amenities are very nice as was the shower. Since th eonly way to have coffee is to go to the lobby for Starbucks in the morning, they should have a few more staff to eliminate the long line. I want to compliment Musa at the pool. He has a very demanding job monitoring the number of guests allowed at the same time and cleaning the lounges after every guest. He dose it all with a smile and a welcome!

We were pleased with the location and happy to find the very reduced rate due to the pandemic restrictions. However the hotel is very run down and security is lacking. The housekeeping staff was very good. The management staff did not require guests to wear masks inside the lobby or the crowded pool area which was disappointing. Residents in the neighborhood used the resort garden areas to walk their dogs, allowing their dogs to pee on the outdoor furniture. One guest in a room nearby had a very loud party in their room that wasn't broken up until we called and requested someone please ask them to keep it down. The Coronado Island Marriott seems to be operating more of a motel right now than a 'resort'.

My family and I stayed back in June and had a wonderful stay. Had a couple milestones and management recognized with a status upgrade part of the time and a $25.00 Food and beverage credit. The General manager and his staff are extremely cordial and accommodating.

San Diego is my wife and I’s favorite vacation spot as there is so much to do and see. Truly a beautiful and clean city.

This Marriott is in a great location on Coronado island and sits right on the bay. Great views of the bay especially at night. Not a day goes by where you don’t see a ship sail by or aircraft fly over. You can go over to hotel Del and be on the beach but we prefer this spot for scenery and a better price. Plus the beach is a short Uber/trolley ride and the resort provides beach chairs.

I know a a lot of resort fees are rip offs but this property you get a lot for your daily fee. As I mentioned the beach chairs. You also get bikes for 2 hours a day and the wellness center/work out facility is top notch with pickle ball/tennis/basketball/lap pool/fitness center. We utilized Daily

Service was too notch as well from the pool bartender to front desk staff to wait staff. Food is also very good on site and plenty restaurants within walking distance.

I highly recommend this property.

We had an oversized patio overlooking the pool and San Diego Bay beyond. The large ground-floor room had old, worn carpet that is so passé. I had to order spa slippers in order to avoid walking barefoot on it. Gross.

Unfortunately, the spa was closed, most likely due to covid, and the check-in desk was completely guarded with plexiglass. Kudos for that.

We enjoyed Albaca, the premises' restaurant, on several occasions beginning on night one. Dining alfresco with a very cool breeze coming off the San Diego bay, the heaters kept us warm.

Both breakfasts and dinners were very good and the service across the property was very courteous.

The best feature of this Marriott is its location. Basically, right at the foot of the Coronado bridge, beside the beaches and bike paths, and a short walk to the ferry landing and the free shuttle stop, there is no better place for lodging on Coronado.

It's worth the extra $5 ($45 total) to valet park and the inevitable daily resort fee includes the use of bicycles, so take advantage!

Yes, we will certainly stay here again. Hopefully they will replace those awful carpets by then.

The grounds are lovely and the staff is very nice. However for over $600 nite before resort fees and taxes we expected a higher degree of cleanliness. I would not ding a place if one day was dirty and then it was rectified but the below photos and comments began on our first day and were never cleaned in the five days we were at the resort:

1) I used the lap pool daily and it was dirty on day one and got dirtier each day I swam therefore it was never cleaned (I own a pool and know what an uncleaned pool looks like re: debris/sand/leaves etc.). It was pretty dirty and I know that it was never cleaned.

2) The area where we went to get ice daily had dirty dishes/glasses/utensils etc. laying around inside the room from numerous patrons (I get that customers were trying to do the right thing by not putting it out in the general hallway). Mid-way through our stay it was infested with ants due to the spoiled food left behind. Each day we said "One of the housekeepers or managers must see this as they pass by" but it was never cleared even on our sixth day leaving.

3) A huge peeve of mine is housekeeping never seems to understand that the outside patios should be part of their daily cleaning routine. Perhaps this is bad management however our deck never felt clean enough to go outside without shoes. There were dirt/dust/cobwebs and bird poop in all corners and in between the railings. The patio is as important as the interior of the room as in Coronado it is an extension of the room and a big selling feature. It should be treated as such.

4) Management should go through every room and ensure all entrance door bottoms have proper weather stripping. Ours had around a 1" gap which let considerable light/debris/noise in effecting the tranquility of our stay/

Again for over $600/nite - $750 after taxes and fees they need to do better!!

Your feedback will be reviewed with the leadership as we look for ways in which we can improve. In the meantime it is important to note that we respect your perspective, but our pools are closely monitored throughout the day and cleaned on the overnight. We hope you might consider returning in the future. BONVoY!

This hotel has a fresh, cool vibe and it is clean with spacious rooms. Marriott beds are always comfortable but the sofa bed was equally uncomfortable. You could actually feel every spring. Definitely not for sleeping on. Travelers mainly need to be aware that this hotel is across the island from the beach. They include beach chairs, beach towels, and boogie boards in the resort fee but unfortunately there is no shuttle to the beach. We chose to stay here mainly because of price. But next time we will probably pay more for the convenience of the Hotel De Coronado which sits right on the beach and is within walking distance to everything. But definitely more expensive. However, if the beach is only one of many activities you're doing in San Diego then the Marriott might be a great place for you. If you're coming to Coronado mainly to enjoy Coronado and the beach, then you might be annoyed by needing to drive across island to the beach, then back actoss to clean up, then back again to go out to dinner, etc l

My family had a great experience here. First, it was an excellent choice during the pandemic, as most of the hotel is open-air and all employees were masked and kept things super clean. Secondly, the location is excellent. We loved the relative quiet of Coronado, while still enjoying the beautiful view of downtown. Very easy drive across the bridge to the zoo and other locations. There is a great walk/bike path right along the water. Super easy walk to the ferry landing, which has several shops and resaurants, and the ferry takes you right to the USS Midway. The beach and Hotel del are about a mile away-- can reach by walking, driving, or bike riding.

Room was spacious and had everything we needed, including a great view. Pool was large and pleasant. Hotel buffet breakfast was good though expensive ($27). There is also a Starbuck's counter onsite if you just want coffee and a nibble for breakfast. We didn't have lunch or dinner at the restaurant, but it looked very pleasant to dine outdoors on the large patio.

Our favorite aspect of the hotel was the free use of bikes. The official rule is 2 hours per day for 2 people, but it was not a busy time when we were there, so staff was pretty liberal with that rule. Might be more strictly enforced at certain times of the year.

Overall, we really enjoyed this hotel and would highly recommend it, especially for families visiting San Diego.

Our first visit to Coronado Island and we loved it. The Marriott helped make the weekend perfect. The staff was very friendly, the rooms clean and large, including the bathroom - plenty of room. Our room had a balcony overlooking the pool area and the waterway along with downtown San Diego = perfect view of so many things! The pool was open all day with plenty of places to sit. If you would like, you can rent lounges with an umbrella for about $25 for every 3 hours. The hot tub is closed right now due to Covid. Masks are required throughout the property. We also ate at their restaurant which is near the pool and really enjoyed the food. We had both breakfast and dinner there. There is a great walking trail near the water that you can either walk or bike on and several places within walking distance for shopping or eating. Really enjoyed the hotel and our visit and can not wait to go back again! Enjoy!

Renovations were completed in April 2019. My apologies, but I am not certain what the comments are refencing.

Our apologies, but due to the adverse impacts of Covid to businesses, Hertz is no longer a partner of the hotel and therefore there is no onsite rental car service available.

Yes, all rooms have balconies with the only difference being that our executive suites and cottages are slightly larger than standard rooms. Wishing her a happy birthday!
