Columbia Gem is charming. Great location at the Columbia California State Park. About a dozen rustic cottages, each one a bit different. We stayed in #9, a non-smoking room with 2 queen beds. The room was spotless, beds were very comfortable, there was a microwave and small refrigerator, and a little patio where you can sit outside. Parking was free and right next to the cabin. Our only complaint is that people were smoking outside our room at times, which didn't affect us in the room, but prevented us from sitting outside much. Dawn checked us in and was extremely helpful and informative about what to do in the local area. We took her advice on dinner (craft pizza from the St. Charles Saloon in the state park) and breakfast at Mandy's down the street. Both meals were great. Make sure to visit the historic downtown in Columbia State Park down the street from the Columbia Gem. There are lots of Gold Rush era houses, working businesses , and 1850s stagecoach, blacksmith, etc. Don't miss the Columbia Mercantile, a modern grocery store perfectly described by the costumed owner as Trader Joe's meets Little House on the Prairie. We had a great time.

We were traveling from the L.A area to Lake Tahoe and wanted to take Highway 49 for a bit of history. I decided on the town of Columbia as our first stop. There is not a whole lot of choices for accommodations. After reading the reviews I decided to give Columbia Gem Motel a try. From the reservation process to check in Dawn could not have been more sweet and accommodating. The motel itself is nothing special but has plenty of potential. Room 9 was clean and plenty spacious for our family of 5 plus 6 bikes. It was nice perk to have a mini fridge and microwave in the room. We did enjoy speaking with Simone who has plans for the Columbia Gem motel. She was kind and accommodating as well. She even let our boys play with her pretty kitty. Thanks for the memorable stay.

We can't say enough about the Columbia Gem Motel. Rooms are clean, cute, comfortable, quiet. We just spend a couple of nights there and we plan to go back again. Rene is very helpful and nice. Very cute rustic cabins, and close to Jamestown, Sonora, and Columbia. There is no in room Wi-Fi but we were there to get away from it all. I did connect to my Infinity though.

My parents and I were passing through and had nowhere to stay for the night. We passed this place to give it a try. The front door was locked so we rang the bell. A gentleman opened a side window and asked what we wanted, we told him we needed one night. He unlocked the door and welcomed us in. You can see that he had turned the entryway to his personal home into a front reception counter. His cat greeted us and his little dog yapped as we checked in. I love animals, but for those who don't like pet odor (or is allergic) would have a problem inside here. We were given the last room, lucky us. We had a good time chatting it up with the owner. He gave us some advice on where to eat dinner and what not. He just had one request, if we had a steak to please bring his dog the done. Well we gladly did that, that was one happy dog. The rooms are individual little cabins surrounding the property. There is a nice little porch with metal chairs to sit on. The inside included two beds (in separate rooms) and a Jack and Jill bathroom. The beds were large and very comfortable. The bathroom included towels and some toiletries. In the living room (which is also the front bedroom) was a TV, fridge, microwave, and a coffee maker. The AC unit worked very well. There is plenty of room to park your vehicle right next to the cabin. This place felt like a home away from home, I wish we could've stayed another night or two. The owner was very nice and the place was very cozy and clean.

I loved this little place. It has separate cabins to stay in-very quaint, cozy and comfortable. Plus I enjoyed the vintage feel of the cabins. Fantastic, very friendly customer service. An extremely nice person, presumably the owner. Very clean, comfy beds, and a great little vintage fully tiled shower stall. The only thing I could say needs improvement are the older TV's (small, no flat screen) but full cable channels are available.
