The Columbia City Hotel and its sister, the Fallon Hotel, are authentically restored 19th-century country inns. All rooms are elegantly appointed with Victorian antiques, custom crafted wall coverings, and beautiful lithographs. Each hotel has a sitting parlour where you can peruse books and magazines, or participate in one of many board games. While both hotels stay as faithful to 19th century decor as possible, modern conveniences such as indoor plumbing, heating and air conditioning have been added. Each room has a half bath, and a shower basket and robes are provided for the trip down the hall to the shared shower rooms. There are also three charming cottages- a one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom- each with a full kitchen, fenced yard and DVD player.

My daughter and I were visiting Columbia on Labor Day weekend, and wanted to stay in town at one of the hotels to get the full experience. I absolutely loved it, and it exceeded my expectations tremendously! This visit was more for the novelty, but I actually enjoyed the hotel so much that I would stay here again if I was ever in the area, not just visiting Columbia SP. I’m glad I read the reviews before I went, so I knew what to expect in terms of amenities. My favorite things: - The hotel was very clean, and nothing felt shabby even though it was meant to represent the 1800s. Pictures do not do this place justice! - The AC worked amazingly! It was so cool inside the hotel compared to outside, and there was a separate thermostat my room, so I could turn up the AC even higher. Felt very comfortable! - I love that there was a restaurant and saloon in the hotel. We really enjoyed the restaurant and the food, even though the service was slow. - Even though there was a restaurant saloon, the hotel was quiet on a Saturday night on Labor Day weekend. While the restaurant was very busy, I did not find it to be very noisy. - I’m really glad we opted for a room that had a connected balcony. It was nice to have the option to sit inside or outside. - I love that they left a couple robes hanging for guests in our room. I forgot my robe at home, and knew the showers were down the hall from the room, so was nice to be able to just put on a robe go to the shower, and come back without having to dress and get ready in the shower room. - Very spacious rooms! Much bigger that I was expecting!

The upstairs lobby looking into the hallway to our room. Staying here does feel like you ate stepping back in time. The room was clean and very well put together. The bed was small for us but we slept well. It was quiet after the town closed which was nice. We had no ghostly visions and awoke refreshed. The cat on the roof was what greeted us that morning. We did not use the restaurant we were in the mood for pizza.

We arrived at this hotel on Valentine's Day, two nights were under $200. My first opinion of the hotel was ''Looks creepy.'' And I was right. We ended up in room 3. And the first night, I didn't sleep until 4 AM. I heard whispers from a man and woman conversing about a dungeon. And at one point; I heard a cat meow, once. And I just had an overall bad feeling. But just because I'm a wimp. The hotel is very clean and Maddie and Travis are very nice. I like how it fits the theme, no TV, no microwave, no fridge. But there is WIFI. And now, for the supernatural experience. Maddie was showing me, my mom and my younger sister room 1. And we were discussing the girl at The Fallon Hotel who hides in the shower. And Maddie said it kinda sounded like a Japanese horror story. And right when she said that, a deep, guttural, male voice told us all to ''Run''. We looked at each other for a second, then all ran out screaming. The weird thing is room 1, a lady and her baby died due to miscarrying. And she is very nurturing towards woman and children. So that was strange. Overall, I like this hotel very much. And I will definitely be coming back.

What a great place to visit! After exploring this historic gold mining town, we had a delicious lunch at the City Hotel before travelling to Sonora to see a theatrical production. Have been there twice and highly recommend eating there for lunch.
