Hotel Diamond is often celebrated for its quaint charm and exceptionally clean, tastefully decorated rooms, although the charm may be slightly marred by noise and a few dated items. The staff's friendliness and efficiency consistently impress guests, as does the hotel's prime downtown location with the bonus of free parking. Despite some concerns over noise and room sizes, the spacious accommodations generally win over visitors. The complimentary breakfast and restaurant vouchers are a hit, though opinions on value are mixed due to extra fees. The hotel's amenities, especially the cozy beds, receive applause, but small bathrooms and additional service charges have been noted.

Always loved the convenience of staying downtown. It has been over 10 years since I stayed last. It has shown its wear... I am overly picky sometimes, but a hotel of this price should not have any chips etc in furniture. I will stay again, but maintenance is required to keep the standards they want. And maybe after the addition, they will update the old part of the hotel. Thank you!

Room was very clean and fresh and also comfortable and very well put together. Shower was roomy and water was very hot with excellent water pressure. Shower also had shampoo/conditioner/body wash in a dispenser attached to the inside of the shower. 2 Queen beds that were very comfortable and mattress was firm. Window was overlooking the downtown area but the area was peaceful at night for a restful sleep. Mirror by the sink is perfect for putting on makeup. and very roomy overall. Will stay there EVERY time we go to Chico. Temperature in the room was very good.

Our Group, about 40-60 couples, stay at The Hotel Diamond at a group rate. The location, close to the university, shopping and dining choices is great. Wayne Cook was a classmate of ours who surprising to us (our college days were a bit on the wilder side) bought this old bldg. and turned it into The Diamond. The Hotel is in an historic bldg. and has expanded over the years adding modern rooms but retaining the bldg.'s historic character. The Staff is attentive and available and parking is free in the adjacent parking structure just across Wayne Cook Alley. The Grab and Go breakfast is handy for allowing couples to meet in the dining room to plan the day's activities over coffee and a snack. Wayne Cook Alley was named in Wayne's Honor by the City of Chico after he passed away earlier this year. We will miss Wayne, but the Diamond is a great legacy for remembering him. We will be booking the Diamond for years to come.

Bob, Thank you for the honest review of our property. We are so glad you and your group were able to get together for another Alumni week at the Hotel Diamond. I am so glad to hear you appreciate the history and character of our building that Mr. Cook strived to preserve. Wayne was always thrilled your reunion group stayed with us every year, and had a great deal of love and appreciation for our community and Chico state alike. We will see you again next year! Devon

Overall, Hotel Diamond is more of a Hotel Cubic Zirconium or perhaps even a Hotel Rhinestone. On the Hotel Diamond website, quick overview shows you the quaint guest rooms that are old but very nicely restored and well maintained. And that is very true, the rooms and hallways are very well maintained. But back to the website, as you scroll down, you will see the amenities the hotel offers including world class dining, delicious steaks served in a nicely appointed restaurant. Unfortunately, all of the restaurant storyline is completely untrue and has been shut down for over a year and a half, but described as “Temporarily Paused”.
And further investigation into the full service cocktail bar, no you will not be getting any any martinis, beer or anything at all, as it’s service is also “temporarily paused” for over a year and a half as well.
Because of this deception, I felt I was renting 5 Star hotel only to find that in fact it was a very solid 3 Star hotel. The location is great, the rooms are clean but a few minor things were in need of repair….(both finials on the table lampshades were missing and a drawer pull was missing as well).
What at first appears as a shiny bright 5 💎 award winner, it sadly is not. The hotel does appear slightly in distress and I heard that the hotel is actively trying to be sold, but I could not confirm that.

Overall, a nice stay in a clean hotel but have no doubt, it is a 3 star hotel (a VERY good one!) with no amenities and the only food available at the hotel is a grab and go for morning breakfast.

Until the restaurant and bar are open (please ask before booking) I would stay at a different property.

Kevin, We are saddened to hear about your less than satisfactory experience at our hotel. The restaurant and bar at the hotel have been closed for a little over 2 years, after the start of covid heavily affected our restaurant and hotel businesses. We are in the process of reopening the bar and lounge, but this project is still in the works and may still be a month or so out. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the cleanliness of the hotel rooms and found the guest rooms and hallways to be satisfactory, something our housekeeping and maintenance team take great pride in. If you're ever in the area again, feel free to reach out to me directly for your lodging needs at devon@hoteldiamondchico.com. Devon

The Hotel is beautiful, nicely located downtown Our room 309 was on the garage side of the hotel. The city apparently cleans the garage with gas blowers on Monday mornings at 630 AM. Oh my goodness it went on for an hour!!! The room was nice other than the noise. I think better windows could diminish the noise a great deal. The other problem in our room was the mattress was old and very uncomfortable. The tag on the mattress indicated it was 17yrs old. Yes it was that uncomfortable I had to look!! I was surprised by the unsightly and obviously old mattress

The Hotel Diamond is a gem. An excellent boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Chico, it is conveniently located, has excellent and warm service, free parking, beautiful and well appointed rooms with high quality amenities and a good sized mini fridge stocked with bottled water, and a very comfortable bed. I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the hotel was considering its central, downtown location. There are many cute shops and restaurants and a Starbucks is within easy walking distance. The hotel restaurant was closed due to the pandemic, but it is highly rated. I felt safe and comfortable staying alone there as a single woman visiting family and friends in Chico. I look forward to staying at this hotel the next time I travel to Chico.

Hotel Diamond is a gem! This is a beautiful hotel in an older classic style. There is a small but pleasant lobby. Downstairs also contains a small but tastefully done full bar. Also downstairs is a restaurant but we did not try the restaurant. The rooms are all upstairs accessed by a lovely staircase (or elevator if you prefer). The hallways are nicely done. We were in a single queen bed room #217. The room was quiet and I note this because some type of school graduation was going on and there were many guests in the hotel. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed with nice soaps and shampoo. The chair provided in the room looked comfortable but it looked better than it felt to sit in. There is a small table. There is a refrigerator with a charge for soft drinks or sodas. We liked the room except that the window in room #217 was immediately adjacent to a well lit emergency exit staircase and it was impossible to get the room dark with the window covering provided. There was no view from the room we were in. There was basic coffee provided in the lobby in the morning but a well known coffee chain is a close block away if you want serious caffeine. The hotel location is very convenient and parking was provided (free on the weekend). We loved this hotel and we would return the next time we visit Chico, just maybe not get room #217 (the room would be fine with a window covering that blocked out the light from the emergency exit).

The Diamond is a nicely restored historic structure situated in downtown Chico across from the main plaza. Staff was friendly and check-in and check-out were both easy. Our room was modest in size and nicely furnished. The mattress, though, was in poor shape and needed replacement. Our room faced the parking structure and noise - particularly late night loud music from vehicles in the structure — was an occasional issue during our stay. As was noise from adjacent rooms; that said, things really quiet down in town by midnight. We enjoyed a nice meal in the restaurant. The hotel is about a half mile from Lower Bidwell Park, well worth a visit, and there are multiple restaurants in the surrounding few blocks. The hotel is comfortable and quaint and we enjoyed our stay.

The hotel's location couldn't be better for walking around downtown Chico and accessing restaurants. Parking in the next-door garage is easy. Great to have access to streaming services on the television. Great shower.
The Executive King suite on the fourth floor is a beautiful space, but the heat system prevents the bedroom from getting its fair share (especially if you have the fireplace on in the main room). Also, the hotel ought to stock real coffee cups in that kitchenette, and a few pieces of silverware.
The management and staff were mainly welcoming and efficient, although they tended to ignore us as we came and went.
