My stay at the Royal Huahine was so special. I wanted to stay in an over the water bungalow, but I also wanted a “me” experience… I didn’t want to feel like people were serving me or like I was at a fancy Hilton where the towels were starched and I was doing some kind of damage. No trademarks, or pressed white outfits, or fancy deals and advertisements. The Royal Huahine was so lovely! As a solo traveler, I didn’t feel like I was stuck in honeymoon land. But I could also imagine coming back with friends, family, kids. My over the water bungalow was over the clearest of waters, with beautiful fish, and a kayak that I could use to go back-and-forth from the restaurant. I used my camera to take pictures of fish. There is a friendly cat who would come back to my bungalow with me if I tempted him. The sunsets were stunning. Nothing was chlorinated (maybe the pool was, I always swam in the ocean.) The food was so good that one time I literally licked my plate. This is the kind of hotel where some types of five star people will point at a little bit of mold on the grout, or complain about a bug or two. Good for us! This spectacular and quiet lagoon over clear water with fancy rooms can be left for the rest of us. This is the kind of place where the adventurous traveler, or a wonderful family ycould come to find a home away from home. I imagine that if you had younger children, you could stay in the little houses that are on the beach, and your kids could run around the gardens in to the shallow pool. Otherwise, I recommend you stay out, in the overwater bungalows. The hotel is only accessible by boat, and it is on a very quiet island. There is no nightlife to speak of, except for the amazing home-cooked fish, (served at a quiet but very fancy looking restaurant over the water) and the stunning sunsets, and the evening swims in the clearest of waters. In the morning, you can wake up from your bed, and literally jump out your bedroom window into the water!! Then you can swim back to your personal dock and take a shower on the dock with your personal shower! Then sit on your personal deck table and have breakfast looking over the water. I am sure that you would feel the same thing that I did when I was handed a flower and welcomed there. Suddenly luxuriating and spoiled by an old, spectacular, beautiful resort that feels unique, and vintage, and special. It’s a little bit like walking back in time… I imagine if it were 1981, these were the first over the water bungalows, and nothing has changed. I dearly hope I can come back one day…and thank you to all.

Could this place use an update and some TLC? You bet, but it’s a huge bargain if you don’t require 5 star opulence. The setting is gorgeous, the rooms (overwater bungalow in our case) enormous and you have everything you need. Snorkeling off the huge deck is good, although not spectacular. Kayaks are free to explore the lagoon. Food is adequate if a bit pricey. Wifi outside the lobby is admittedly weak. Free boat service takes you back and forth to town (Fare) that has food and supplies. Additional charge for airport transfer. Be sure to get bottled water at the store on the way in - only one bottle provided per stay. A/C is good. Fridge and hot pot in room. Everything is a bit worn and dated but generally functional. Staff is helpful and kind. Fins available free but snorkels are not during Covid. You may prefer an opulent full-service over-water resort but it will cost you 5 times this place.

Do not stay here!!!! Everything at this resort is dirty or broken. We travel a lot and we have never been to a place where people could care less about the guests, their resort or their job. Upon arrival at the resort we were “checked in”. This consisted of someone pointing at a bungalow and us lugging our luggage across the resort. Once in our room we were greeted by an ant invasion around the sink area and cockroaches in the bathroom. Once we pulled back the sheets on the bed their was fresh blood on the sheets and pubic hair. The refrigerator didn’t function properly, drains in the sink were clogged and the shower did not function correctly. The resort itself was all but closed. The bar was closed, pool area was closed, beach bar was closed and spa area was closed. The restaurant had 1 untrained employee working in it. Any public area open is dirty and they do not clean it (or seem to care about it in any way). The pictures of this property on its website look nothing like it does in real life. Also, discussing any problems with anyone (including management) has no effect. This hotel is a disgrace to Tahiti.

Dear guest, we are sorry to see that as we have refused to offer you your entire stay at our resort as you have requested it at the check-out, you are making every efforts to ruin the reputation of the resort. Such behaviour si just unacceptable for people "working in the tourism industruy" after what it has been through with the COVID crisis. We really hope you are not doing the same with all the tour activities you have also complained about as nothing seemed to bring you any satisfaction. Wishing you a safe flight back. Best regards, Royal Huahine

I am very disappointed in a property that would accept a reservation in March and wait til two weeks before a trip to inform us that our reservation has been canceled due to renovations. That is something I would expect they have known for a while. It ruins long planned out vacation plans already delayed due to COVID-19

Truly a special place… Beautiful water. The people were wonderful… Food was delicious. Can’t wait to come back. This is my dream place, can only rates be reached my boat, the over the water bungalows were absolutely what I wanted, but it was a homey rustic feel.

My husband and I are taking our 2nd vacation to Le Royal Huahini resort. Our 2nd booking we were advised that we shouldn't pick this place, as it's out of the way, and outdated? secluded, and service was bad. I strongly disagree! Service is Awsome, laid back, courteous, nobody bothers you, the food is awesome!! If you want touristy, busy, go to Bora Bora. This island is very Authentic, and if you don't appreciate life, go elswhere!

My wife and I were there for 4 nights with my son and his girlfriend. We had 2 over-the-water bungalows. These are not 5 star accommodations, but they don't claim to be. They are rated at 3 stars, but I would put them closer to 4. The bungalows are very spacious and comfortable and you can literally snorkel right around the bungalows. Our main goal was to surf at a nearby reef pass called Fitii. Unfortunately, their main transport boat was out of commission so they weren't making their normal trips over to the port, which happens to be where the surf spot is located. Seeing the dilemma that we were in, the manager, Claude, stepped up and said he would drive us the 20 minute trip to take us to our surf spot and then pick us up a few hours later. He did this two days in a row and it completely made our trip. We had fantastic surf, as well as very good snorkeling, kayak and outrigger rides. Claude went above and beyond what I had expected. They are currently upgrading all the units. It's a pristine location and I would highly recommend it. Thanks Claude and congratulations on your new baby!!

We stayed in a deep overwater bungalow - it was amazing, and remarkably affordable. We jumped off our deck into the water, saw a lot of fish and much variety. The coral was better than a lot of places, walking down the beach a few hundred yards brought us to areas that more healthy coral. All the staff was friendly and attentive. We spoke with the new manager who was brought in to turn around the place, they are going to renovate and upgrade much of the hotel, while continuing to rent out the rooms and bungalows that are in good shape. It's not a large property, but it's beautiful and a great value.

Overwater bungalows that were within our budget. Bungalows were very spacious and clean with great decks. We swam right off the decks and spent many hours sitting on them. The sea life below the bungalows and walkways was incredible, including an octopus. The facility could use some updating, especially some of the worn out boards on the walkways and decks. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Just wish the complimentary shuttle ran past 5pm so we could have stayed in town for dinner if desired.

We've always looked at over water units with envy but the cost in many resorts is too much for our pockets. But not here so gave it a go and were not disappointed in the least and so would return any time. The over water units were spacious and well laid out also very clean with excellent water entry platforms. We bought our own fruit and breads so did our own"thing" for breakfasts but also enjoyed the main dining and lunch resturants. As many have reported the staff were friendly and obliging. The snorkeling was fabulous with a big variety of fish species just in the coral around the over water units ( from the walkway we watched an octupus hunting for about 10 minutes - never seen that before - right place right time!) but also across the bay and around the main reception area/walkway. Also some excellent coral heads south west of the resort (walk down the beach for about 15 mins and drift snorkel back). Some interesting tracks (hardly call them roads) to wander along as well if you need more excersice. Easy to get into Fare (try the excellent resturant at the sailing club), for a well stocked supermarket, scuba dviing, bike hire etc and a money machine. As our first experience in French Polynesia we were hooked and recommend this hotel to anyone.
