I found Ratna Ling on Groupon and it seemed too good to be true but it is a truly beautiful oasis in the trees. The grounds are absolutely breathtaking. The cottages are beautiful, comfortable and peaceful. The volunteers are amazing and helpful. I enjoyed the meditation and yoga offers and the food was so delicious. I will for sure be back soon for some more zen and nature!

What a wonderful, peaceful, invigorating space to experience. The facility is thoughtfully and artfully designed…the food is beyond amazing…and the grounds are vast and lovely. I’ve been here many times and each visit leaves me inspired and renewed.

I went to Ratna Ling for a retreat with my wife on the weekend of 6/31/2018. From the moment we got there, I was very pleased at how cool everyone was. Not just the staff, but EVERYONE there.

The drive took about 4 hours from Silicon Valley on Friday. I'm sure that this is abnormal as this is the weekend before the Fourth of July and lots of people were traveling to the Russian River Valley. There are lots of windy roads on the way, and the drive is absolutely beautiful.

We got in at 4:15pm and went to a yoga class at 4:30. They provide all the mats, props, etc. You just go in and start. Our instructor was Gloria. She greeted us and told us a little about the weekend and brought us into the class. The yoga is pretty basic, it's not heated, and space is super clean. The whole facility looks brand new. These are great classes for beginners.

Our cabin was huge and had great views of the surroundings. You get two bedrooms, high ceilings, and a Jacuzzi tub. The bed was incredibly comfy as well.

The food is vegetarian. I wasn't super excited about this, but it turned out to be great, and had plenty of protein via tofu and eggs. These folks are Buddhist, so don't expect any steaks.

The weekend we went was focused on chanting. I wasn't (and still am not) too crazy about this. I just don't get it. But that's me and it was still a great experience. When others were chanting, I just sat there quietly and has a very peaceful time. It's not often that I can just close my eyes, ignore every one around me and chill. You don't have to participate in everything, and Gloria made that known. My wife really like the chanting and so did the other participants. I was laughing a lot, which I hope didn't disturb the other patrons. If it did, they never let on.

The whole staff was really nice. At one point on Saturday they had a little panel that told us of the history of the place and what they do. They are 100% non profit, and use the massive facility to preserve culture. Mostly Tibetan culture from what I heard. I guess the Chinese rolled into Tibet in the '50s and wrecked the place. Some monks rolled out and tried to preserve what they could. Ratna Ling reproduces lots of the books and things that these monks smuggled out. That's pretty good in my book.

You'll not be put off by crazy hippies, these folks seem normal (besides being really nice, which is abnormal for me). And they aren't out to recruit you. They just share their culture at a beautiful place, and that is fine with me.

I wish I took some photos, but this was a phones off weekend.

Highly recommend!

I was at ratna ling for a 5 day yoga retreat this past weekend and it was beyond beautiful! The food was absolutely phenomenal at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The surrounding area is picturesque, the cottages are simple and clean with porches that look out to redwoods and green pastures. The staff was lovely, very helpful, and flexible. If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful place to rejuvenate and breathe, this is the real deal.

My partner and I booked a 2-night stay at Ratna Ling not knowing exactly what to expect. We were completely blown away by the beauty of the grounds, the views, and our cabin... as other reviews note, the cabins are very spacious, modern, and luxurious. The meals, included in the price, were really delicious with lots of vegan and gluten free options. My favorite spot was our deck overlooking the valley and forest.

The nice thing about this place is that it's really up to you how much you want to participate in the activities offered. We participated in morning yoga one day and also took a massage lesson with Cindy from Mellow Mates - highly recommended - but other than that, we just relaxed in our cabin and hiked around the area.

The highlights for us were exploring the redwood tree cathedrals around the property, star-gazing at night - i'm not sure i've ever seen so many shooting stars in one night - and watching the animals that live on the property: deers, lizards, turkeys and lots of birds are all around, and a group of wil turkeys actually used the ground under our deck as their launching pad to fly into the pine trees at dusk... pretty spectacular!

The volunteers at the center were very friendly. Our arrival was the only part of our stay that left a little to be desired... it was hard to find anyone that worked there when we arrived, and we then got 3 different sets of directions - all of them wrong - about how to drive our car down to our cabin. However, once we were settled, we were completely fine and didn't have any more problems.

If you need a little R&R or need a nature getaway, I highly recommend Ratna Ling. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Both my partner and I left feeling refreshed and more grounded.

I bought a Living Social deal for a cabin for two, all meals included, for November of 2011. The price was a great deal but I wasn't sure what to expect. This retreat center exceeded my wildest fantasies! The cabin was HUGE, sparkling and new. Gorgeous natural wood everywhere, soft linens, giant jacuzzi tub. The grounds of the retreat center are quiet, peaceful and nicely wooded. I saw deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, ducks and all manner of flora and fauna during my stay. The food was exquisite!!! Very fresh, very flavorful, fun and filling. They grow much of their own food. The surrounding area has great opportunities for hiking and exploring rocky beaches. I had a lovely birthday at Ratna Ling.

Seriously, the food was so good that I wrote in detail about each meal in my journal. Evenings were spent warm and cozy in front of the fireplace, playing scrabble and snuggling with my boyfriend. I highly recommed this place for a private, peaceful getaway.

I just spent a few nice reflective days at Ratna Ling Retreat Center. If you or your clients are looking for a place to quietly plan business, goals and life Ratna Ling is a welcoming alternative to Hotels and Convention centers. It’s a perfect retreat for small businesses and groups. Forget the Red Bull and Wine this is all healthy Vegetarian Food! Run by Buddhists Ratna Ling is special. I had no idea what I bought when I booked this package a few months ago but what I bought far exceeded the value. In my cabin was a book that is an excellent read. It’s called, Skillful Means. It is a great book that talks about integrity, responsibility, creativity and caring in the work place. A concept we all need to remember during these tough times. If you have come to a place of change or change has been thrust upon you whether you liked it or not you’ll find some peace at Ratna Ling. Especially if you are someone who beliefs are based on having good values and ethics in life and in business. http://ratnaling.com/

I found Ratna Ling to be beautiful, peaceful and mystical. Although I was only there for a few days, I felt transformed and that feeling still lingers with me even 3 weeks after returning home. Not since my childhood, in an extremely rural and undeveloped part of the South, have I experienced such complete quiet. Ratna Ling is so peaceful that it allows one to really listen to the voices within. At night, it is so dark and free of light pollution that the explosion of stars will amaze you. The wildlife, including flying wild turkeys, entire families of deer, and even the occasional fox, will make you feel connected to nature.

Shockingly, amongst all this amazing nature, has been perfectly constructed the most ecologically conscious and gorgeous 5 star luxury cabins I have ever been privileged to stay in. Bill Gates and Oprah would be comfortable here. This is such a unique destination. Nestled in the beautiful redwoods of Northern California, Ratna Ling is a peace of heaven not to be missed while here on earth.

Lastly, I must rave about the food. It was wonderfully fresh, and many of the vegetables, herbs and teas were grown on the property. The eggs organic and delicious were from a nearby farm. No detail was missed in making my experience at Ratna Ling a wonderfully enchanting experience. From my first phone call to Chelsea who worked quickly and diligently to get me the last minute dates I was requesting to Tracy and Annette who warmly greeted me as though I were a friend showing up for lunch when I arrived weary from my drive, it was all perfect and I can't wait to return!

Note that although I was there for a personal retreat, Ratna Ling offers business retreats, workshops, seminars, and meetings in state-of-the-art conference facilities, as well as, of course, personal retreats. This kind of peace and quiet is so rare in our modern world, that I chose to write this review in hopes of sharing and spreading the newly found peace and comfort I gained through my trip there :o) Blessings to all!

I can't say enough about the peace and pleasant sense of the place. The staff are lovely, the food is fantastic, and the rooms just exude calm reflection. It must be mentioned that the rooms have lovely views, a stunning living area with a fireplace, and a kitchenette.

It is run by volunteers who donate their skills to the institute. Hugs to them.

I would come back in a heartbeat.

Tip: there is poor phone signal and some GPSs will get the location wrong. If your gps stops you on hauser road by a mailbox, keep going up the road. You will not be able to miss it.

Beautiful newly built cabins with attention to simplistic high quality woodworking and high hand done detail right down to the beautiful iron hardware on doors and vent coverings throughout the house. Small kitchenette areas (not a full kitchen with stoves..just microwave and fridge and sink area), sitting areas, healthy food (all inclusive), decks overlooking forested areas, and wonderful people on site make this place a great getaway.

I have never been, but here is their daily program, and class descriptions. There is a daily yoga and meditation class that is lead by instructors. tripadvisor wont let me post links so you have to go to ratnalingworkstudy . com go to study at the top right and click "program schedule" or "current schedule" whichever you see first. Hope this helps.
