Detailed Reviews
The Shoreline Inn is clean and comfortable with genuinely friendly staff. We had the extra special surprise of 2 hours of whale watching from our balcony, that is furnished with 2 chairs and small table, so bring your binoculars. We had brought ours for watching the elephant seals at San Blas. The included Continental Breakfast with a nice selection was a plus. There were usb ports on both sides of the king bed. They recycle their lightly stained towels for pet use and are hung by the door. Further, they provide black hand towels for use in removing make-up as well as make-up remover packaged towelettes. Our bed was comfortable and there are extra blankets if needed. The bathroom is utilitarian but well-sized and extra towels are provided. In all; everything one needs.I can easily understand why the Shoreline experiences so much repeat business.

Response from Shoreline I, General Manager at Cayucos Shoreline Inn...on The Beach
Responded Feb 8, 2020
Thank you for your detailed review. Whales are so majestic and it's quite awesome when they're passing through or feeding in our bay. The staff tries to think of those "little" things that might provide for a more comfortable and memorable stay at the Shoreline; we so appreciate when they're noticed. Many of our guests become family and it warms our hearts to call them "regulars." Sincerely, Laila Kollmann

Spectacular location! We stayed in Room 122, a queen and a full bed. The only thing separating the room from the ocean is a small wall and a grassy area--we left our sliding glass door open all night and heard the waves...wonderful. My only issue is: I understand we are living with covid, so the breakfast service has been eliminated. We had just come from the Sequoias and also a stay on Catalina Island, and every hotel has adapted their breakfast service (example: delivering it to your room, etc). For the price, I had expected that they would find some way to give you breakfast as other hotels have managed it quite nicely. That being said, perhaps it is done to encourage you to buy breakfast from local businesses, which we did. There is a great coffee place just across the street. There is a coffee maker in the room. Use your own water if you can, because the taste of the coffee made with tap water was un-drinkable. Two very MINOR issues, none of which would deter me from staying there again! Like I said, location is UNBEATABLE. And dog friendly.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and sharing your thoughts. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and our amazing Cayucos beach. At the moment, serving or delivering breakfast is not an option on our property and we're exploring options for the future. Thank you for your patience and checking out other breakfast places in town. We hope the restaurant list given to you at arrival was of assistance. We hope you come again and thank you for being our guest! Sincerely, Laila Kollmann

We have been coming here for over 30 years. It seems to improve every time we visit. Our room always has special touches....coffee and tea, wine glasses, bottle opener etc. This has become our favorite vacation spot.

We booked this trip as a “safe” getaway from being stuck in our home for months during Covid. The Inn got wonderful reviews and we love the rustic beach. We booked it because it was dog friendly on a dog friendly beach. Boy, nothing could be further from the truth.
First of all, we booked a room on the first floor so we could take our dogs out our patio door for walks and to the beach. There is a nice grassy area, but absolutely NO privacy between your room and those next to you. There were several dogs staying there and our dogs had the nerve to bark at the other dogs, who, by the way, barked at our dogs. Dogs are supposed to be on lead, but several weren’t.
Then we had to deal with children looking IN OUR room to look at our dogs, so they barked. Talk about invasion of privacy! The room was very small, so when they looked in our room, they could see everything!
We had people yelling at us to clean up our dog’s poop, when they hadn’t even pooped!
Even though it was during Covid, most guests weren’t wearing masks, but wanted to pet our dogs.
The worse part was being told by the front desk clerk that there had been complaints about our dogs barking. Yes, our dogs bark at times, but a dog friendly hotel should know this. Our dogs were barking at people running across the yard because they wanted to play but were tied to our chairs, per the hotels rules.
Besides the dog issues, the hotel is no more than a two star hotel. The location is the only thing going for it. The rooms are small, no storage and super crappy coffee maker.
There was no housekeeping because of Covid, but we were not given any extra garbage bags or a broom to sweep the sand out of the room.
You can check my Trip Advisor record. I have only written good reviews. This place is so not dog friendly that I had to write this review. We got the feeling that if you are a “regular”, you can do anything. Save your money and get an Airbnb. The beach is not worth this mess of an Inn.
As I write this, we are waiting for the manager to call us. We are leaving early and the desk clerk said they won’t refund the two nights we aren’t staying. The manager has not called us, so I guess they don’t care about us or our unhappiness with our stay.

The rooms have been updated recently. Unfortunately, the hotel staff have gone out of their way to eliminate a lot of things that made this place great, thinking slightly improved rooms give them full authority to jerk you around.
Breakfast disappeared during covid and never reappeared. It should be back by now.
The new TVs cannot be set to input modes at all. This is one of the only hotels that actually deactivated the button. Call the front desk and they tell you get lost. Want to stream something off a Roku/laptop or play a video game in the room? Too bad. Your only option is bad cable with commercials.
The property also began outright refusing any late checkouts without charging at least an additional $50 fee. This was only an issue previously on busy weekends and summertime. They're now doing it on nearly empty weekdays in November.
At this point, I'd go elsewhere, lots of options in the Cayucos/Morro Bay area. If the hotel can go back to the way things were they will be worth the money.

We rate the trip as five stars. The room was clean, on the beach and quiet so one could hear the ocean. The room was efficiently cleaned each day. The staff was friendly and helpful especially in recommending a restaurant when most were closed. We would definitely recommend the Cayucos Shoreline Inn as a place to stay and relax.

Wish the system would allow me to give this inn a strong 4.5/5 because it was really charming. No AC, which probably isn’t needed most of the time. It was a little warm in Sept., but still wasn’t bad. Oceanfront rooms are a bit small, but they are nicely remodeled and kept in good condition (as was the entire property). It was nice to walk out of the room and be beachfront! Everyone we encountered was friendly, welcoming and helpful. We had to make one small change to our reservation early on and it was handled with ease. We also had a phone call the week out to confirm and then another one the day of arrival. I wish all hotels were like this…Everyone at the hotel, employees and guests, seemed to be dog lovers. It really was SUPER dog friendly. Many of the guests seemed to be repeat visitors.
The hotel was in an excellent area that allowed us to explore Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, and Cambria with ease. Not being familiar with the area, the Shoreline Inn seemed to be a good pick and it lived up to our expectations. We can’t wait to return!

Room was fine, but the elimination of breakfast and a $75 charge for a one hour extension for checkout time left us with a bad taste in our mouth. The desk person used the old standard line of "its our policy" for check out fee and acted like she could care less about our displeasure. We will not be returning.

We love this place and we love Cayucos. It's a great little town with lots of fun places to eat and walk to. Ruddell's Smokehouse does the best smoked fish (and other meat) tacos. There are several coffee shops to get a coffee and walk the beach. There's a fantastic little candy/chocolate/ice cream shop a short walk from the hotel. Once you park the car, you hardly ever use it until you leave.

I'm so glad you enjoy staying with us. Little Cayucos does seem to have a bit of everything we like when we're on vacation. It seems that you know the little nooks and crannies to savor. We have a new restaurant in town. Hidden Kitchen just opened and they specialize in blue corn waffles - lunch and dinner. I look forward to trying it. Thank you for your review and we'll see you next time. Sincerely, Laila Kollmann

This place is such a find! Right on the beach, beautiful views. Real glasses and coffee mugs. Clean, tidy, well designed room. In the center on town with access to grocery, restaurants etc. Staff were very helpful. You feel like you have a Malibu beach house for a very reasonable price.

Hi Daniel,
We are indeed still pet friendly, all of our rooms are pet friendly. Pet charge for pet is $35 and for pets $45 for the stay.
