At the Ionian Sea Hotel & Villas - Aqua Park, guests have called out the clean pools and water park as highlights, although some travelers feel the all-inclusive options leave something to be desired. While the hotel's atmosphere and rooms get a mixed reception, ranging from modern and spacious to basic and dated, cleanliness is generally upheld, with fresh towels and well-maintained areas. Service experiences vary, impacting perceptions of value, which is further challenged by additional costs. The tranquil, remote location is appreciated, though it may warrant a car rental for convenience.

Upon arrival at around 11.30pm we checked in with ease, however we then asked if we had a travel cot in the room they said no as this wasn’t requested, however when you’ve booked an infant 1 year old on the booking surely they would know. They said it’s all shut up now so wouldn’t be able to get one until the following day, so checked the room out and there was no way a 1 year old would be sleeping without a travel cot, so back to reception and demand we needed one, luckily they managed to get in.

Food was a bit hit and miss, you could always find something to eat and not overly fussy but sometimes did struggle - wouldn’t say it was awful. Didn’t have food from the snack bar so cannot comment. Ice cream was homemade and delicious 😋

Drinks weren’t great soft drinks tasted funny. Ouzo and lemonade, wine and beer were ok. Ended up just asking for vodka and buying the coke for €3 from the bar.

Pool areas were really nice, no towels placed on sunbeds so there was no rush to get up early in the morning which was nice. Aqua park was great for the kids.

Rooms were clean and tidy and clean towels daily. We were on the ground and it was quite noisy, walls were thin and random dog going up and down the corridor, barking during the night.

Entertain was good the season didn’t actually start until 1st June. Andre activity entertainer was great lovely guy! Quizzes, singers, Greek dancing and Bingo nights. Darts during the day. So think we were lucky to have some.

€15 for a taxi each way to Lixouri or €2 for the bus. Ferry was €3 to agastoli. Beach was not really existent at the bottom on the hotel full of seaweed. However we walked for 20 minutes to Vasta beach and that was better, with a snack/drink bar.

Overall for what we paid we had a fantastic family holiday so we cannot really complain. Not sure I would return with it being a bit out of the way, but that would be the only reason.

I have mixed thoughts on this hotel.
We arrived late check in was fast and was shown to our room - the room was clean but very basic and small so I popped back down to reception to ask if we could upgrade and it was €120 more but I didn’t mind as I really wasn’t happy with the room we currently was in
The next morning we upgraded to a maisonette these are far more spacious and modern and we was more than happy with this.
The food is just ok I wouldn’t go as far as some reviews to say it’s terrible because in my opinion it’s not it’s just ok and I think some people forget this is a 3 star not a 5.
However food was always luke warm. The drinks were terrible! Something needs to be done about this as they were un drinkable. Everyone we spoke to were moaning about how awful the drinks tasted and people were buying their own drink from the town. We always bought bottles of water which were €0.80 a bottle. I had stomach cramps the last 2 nights and people did who asked did wonder if it was the drinks!
The snack bar is just none existent to be honest. Ham and cheese sandwiches that were left all day not covered up and the bread was always rock hard! This is more a less alls they had on and I’ve never been to a hotel what has just that on a snack bar all inclusive.
We had entertainment on our last night as some ladies had complained that we didn’t have any on at all, all week! And as the hotel is so remote this just doesn’t work for people.
The trip into Lixouri town is a €30 round trip and if you want to go down daily because there’s no entertainment and your food and drink isn’t great then this becomes very expensive!!
The ferry is €3pp each way and on a gorgeous sunny day the views are breathtaking.
We luckily met a great group of people and sat together at night having a good natter and a laugh so this was pretty much our entertainment!
The pool areas are always clean and the gardens and hotel are kept to a good standard.
I’m unsure if I would return to be honest. Just because of how remote the hotel is. If the hotel got a free bus for guests down to the town and the drinks and snack bar were improved then I would go back.
But see for yourselves!

I visited with my three boys age 14,11 and 5 the last week of August. We had a lovely time and the room had the loveliest view of the sea as I had booked a family room away from the pools in the separate block.
Our room was close to the water park and garden bar which opened in the evening and we were but a 5 minute walk from the main pools and restaurant.
The pools were great for all ages but are very deep so please be careful with little ones, we were always able to get sun beds either at the main pools or the water park at any time of the day.
The beach is lovely, narrow but plenty of space to sit on the sand or rent beds and the sea is shallow for ages and my 5 year old lived that he could walk out so far.
The restaurant had good enough food and was what I had expected but the staff were on top of clearing away dirty dishes and putting out fresh food when required. The restaurant manager and front of house gentlemen were very friendly and happy to help and are an asset to the hotel. All staff were approachable and helpful, reception through to bar staff ( I read that the bar staff were miserable but if you take an interest and chat with them it brightened their day and made long shifts more bearable I’m sure). The tonics and carbonated drinks were not the best but drinkable. The beer was good and the spirits were decent.
Over all if you don’t expect the 4 star as advertised by some companies I would say that for a 3 star it’s a great little hotel.
My kids and I enjoyed the little water park too which had a good level of lifeguards who were on the ball at keeping people safe.
As I don’t tend to go back to the same hotel twice i probably won’t return but that’s not a reflection on the hotel at all just a personal choice to explore. I will definitely return to kefalonia in the future.
Safe travels everyone

I don't understand at all how this hotel can have such a high rating. For me, this hotel does not correspond to the presented 4 stars at all, but it is an average 3-star hotel. You definitely don't have the feeling of a luxurious vacation here. The rooms are old and would need renovation. The worst thing is that the number of accommodated guests many times exceeds its capacity. It was originally a smaller hotel and now they are constantly building. During your stay, you actually stand in line permanently, especially in the dining room, where you stand in line for a free table and then, for example, a long line for coffee. In addition, the tables are very close together and there was a lot of noise and bustle in the dining room. The pool bar closed exactly at 9:30 p.m., which was often laughable. If you wanted to have something in the evening, you had to go to the garden bar, and quite early, because it was difficult to get a free table. Another problem was the stench from the sewage, which was felt most in the rooms furthest from the main building, which you really don't want on vacation. As for the all-inclusive offer, the drink offer was very weak - not even a mixed drink, only toast for the morning snack. Otherwise, the menu for lunch and dinner was fine, the food was tasty. We didn't like the beach near the hotel at all, and there were much nicer beaches just a short distance away. The water park is quite nice, although from the photos it seemed to me that there was more than one pool. I positively evaluate the animation program for children, a nice large playground, nice animators and the services of the travel agency Blue style - especially the delegate Mrs. Staňka. Kefalonia is a beautiful island and it is worth renting a car to drive around the beautiful places and beaches. From this point of view, the location of this hotel is also quite disadvantageous, because it is quite far from here to all the beautiful places. So Kefalonia is a beautiful place, but I do not recommend this hotel.

Honest review of someone who travels a lot

On arrival reception staff couldn’t speak any English we had to pay a tax €40 plus.we booked a superior room which was a good walk from everything. Be prepared for the horrible sewage smell it’s horrendous even the room smelt of it.

Rooms are very basic but the cleaners keep the floors and bins emptied everyday and clean towels (towels stained some days and very hard) the decor is dark and outdated.

The food isn’t the best at all breakfast has plenty of choice the food isn’t that warm and the bread is stale every day even when going early for breakfast only one toaster for all the building. The butter is one huge tub for everyone to use ☹️
Lunch time the food is good one day bad the next and nothing for the younger kids. The snack bar is left over meals from
The lunch and sandwich curled up and not kept cold.
Evening meal we haven’t had one nice one in 14 days we went out to town for food most days which cost €30 return plus tip for driver.
This hotel is very secluded.
Pool area isn’t kept very clean around it and the bathrooms smell so bad wee all over the floors and the toilet paper is so hard. The drinks on the all inclusive is absolutely Terrible very chemical taste and smell to them. We spent a lot of time at the water park area where you pay for drinks and snacks but the staff are so nice and the pool are is clean. These staff need to give some tips to the bar staff at the main pool who are rude and nasty to adults and kids laughing and being ignorant when asked if they have a problem speaking in own language. The restaurant meet and greets are so nice and friendly never forgets your rook number and is Chatty.

Beware of the chemicals in the pool lots of our swim wear have been bleached yellow and blue from the paint on sides of the pool

This hotel is not 4* I would say 2* and I would never recommend to anyone. We paid over 3 and a half thousand pound for two weeks and we have spent so much more going out and about for food and drinks. Don’t do it

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We always appreciate the feed back, even the negative ones. It would have been nice to know your name but unfortunately you are writing with a nickname. In any case our food is very tastefull and there is plenty of choice. Many guest that complaint tend to write that they have paid a lot of money for this vacation but please let me point out that our prices are more that reasonable and the services that we provide are of high quality. It is a pitty that while you were here you never came once to complain at the front desk - none of the rooms that stayed for 14 days did come to complain- if you had taken the time to discuss either with us or your rep your experience would have been improoved.

After booking we read the reviews and our hearts sank… research first, book later, shoulda/coulda/woulda… BUT!!!! Me and my cousin were taking a well deserved long weekend break from bereavement and busy lives, we booked 2months before travelling, AI rate, we were randomly allocated room 566 which was on the edge of the site overlooking sea, mountain and cornfield. No passing people or view of the resort and its entertainment, and not near the social areas but 1minute away… it was FANTASTIC. View? Tick! Noise? Tick! Facilities in the room and resort? Tick! The staff were friendly, funny and helpful, if you have a question, just ask! Communal facilities and rooms were spotless and serviced well, pools good, an aqua park on site so if you’re a family with water babies you can’t go wrong. Food wise, something for everyone, local cuisine, salads, desserts… daily pasta variations and always chips for the fussy eaters. Vegetarian options available but limited, pescatarian possible, meat eaters well catered for. I’m a coffee snob and that was drinkable but the wine was difficult to swallow. As a 3star resort and for the price you pay, I would say go for it, relax and enjoy…oh and the local puppies pop in and say hi as well as the pusscats :)

This is a family friendly hotel, if you don’t have young kids you might not love Ionian Sea.

The hotel is a self sufficient resort and is isolated in the beautiful countryside with just 2 buses running to Lixouri each day.

The food is beautiful, so much choice each day and so delicious. Pork, chicken, beef, pasta, salads, paellas just everything you could want.

My biggest complaint that made the holiday difficult is the Air Con is not good in the room. We stayed in one of the maisonettes and the heat in here is difficult to cope with, there is air con but it’s pretty weak definitely not being the room temp down much.

Top tip get good airflow but opening the sliding doors and the from door and letting the wind go through. We use the ashtray wedged under the door to keep it open.

All 3 pools are child friendly (we have 5 year old) and the water park is great we spent a lot of time there!

If you get the chance to visit Lixouri bring home some shopping I found the beer and alcohol not too good so we saved ££ by buying some for the room for chilled nights.

We took the ferry to Argostoli and were so lucky to see turtles at the harbour. Worth asking your rep for tips on how where to go.

Theres a nice small beach attached to the hotel lovely to dip in to and relax on.

Lots to do and see on this island and Ionian Sea is a great, all inclusive place to stay.

The all inclusive drinks aren’t the best but I didn’t have high expectations for that, my choice for all inclusive was more about the food and things like ice cream for my son and soft drinks so i’m not too disappointed not drinking a lot anyway.
rose or white wine spritzer is nice and gin and tonic not too bad. They have drinks available to buy at the bar too eg cocktails, Frappe, bigger bottles of beer if you want.

If you want a holiday where you go out often to bars and shops this hotel wouldn’t be first choice.

If you want a holiday that’s easy, child friendly, convenient in a beautiful clean well kept location with mini club, water park and excellent food this is for you.

The biggest mistake holiday wise we've ever made was booking this hotel. This hotel should be rated 2 star and no more. Unhelpful reception staff from the start, and rooms that at times stank of drains and things you don't want to smell. The bedrooms were cleaned every day (floors mopped, beds made, clean towels), but in general they were very grubby. The worst thing over the 7 days we were there was the food, as the days went on, we ate less and less, other than the desserts, which really kept us going (they were the best of a bad job). Greek cuisine does not exist in this place. You were cattle herded in the restaurant by the jobsworth sergeant major who stopped us putting juice in the drinking bottle of our 3 year old grandson. The drinks on the AI package were just a joke, and getting served from 20:30 at the one and only bar they keep open was also a joke. They have two lads serving on a 'go slow' to make sure you don't drink too much (fortunately I don't drink so it didn't affect us too much). The kids appeared to enjoy the nightly mini disco, but no other real entertainment to speak of. The 3 small pools were overcrowded everyday, we spent our days at the water park pool which our grandson really enjoyed. Price of a filter coffee there was €3 and lollies etc were €4.
Bottled water isn't included in the AI, but you can buy 6 bottles (1.5 L) from the shop for €3. Forgetting the main block where we were, the exterior look of the place was quite nice, set over quite an expanse of area, the play park and gaming area really need refreshing, but overall you can see a total lack of investment over probably the last ten years or more, probably since the water park was built 12 years ago.
We made the mistake of ignoring the poor reviews before booking, I hope anyone reading this review decides to book elsewhere, it's not even like this hotel is cheap, we paid £750 each for 7 nights.

The Ionian beach hotel is very average.
We had a 4 bed maisonette which was much smaller than on their website, but always cleaned our room cleaner was very attentive and friendly.
There was one day that a dirty towel from another room had accidentally been left in our room but other than that the room was cleaned to a very good standard.
The splash park was very good great for the kids ours 10 & 7yrs so if you have children around this age they will love it. Unfortunately one of the slides out of the 5 were out of order think it had been for quite a while we asked and the lifeguard said just a big problem so we didn’t find out the problem.
This hotel should NOT! be classed as an all inclusive it’s more Full board. The snacks between meals are non existent they only offer a very small range of sandwiches and they a usually meat so no good if you are vegan or vegetarian, the only very nice snack they had was the home made ice cream but there where times when there wasn’t any left so some days literally no snacks.

The morning bar staff were rude and very angry looking. I was told i couldn’t have any grenadine in my drink because it was for a competition, there was little to no choice of cocktails and the cocktails available was mixed poorly. The male bar tender literally was cleaning over me as I was trying to get some ice cream no spatial awareness at all very rude man both him and the girl should not be in hospitality, I hope management have words with them about their truly awful behaviour they need training.
The front of house gentleman in the restaurant was very nice very happy greeting you warmly every time we came to breakfast, lunch & dinner and when we were leaving.
The food was cooked well but very representative.
The major problems where the food serving staff didn’t speak a word of English, all the food labels
were incorrect i and my family all selected pizza which was simply labelled pizza to find it had ham in I’m vegetarian and I don’t eat pork.
However the one English speaking food server got the chef to make just a cheese pizza for me which was nice it was very fresh and tasty. The worst thing and most dangerous thing at this restaurant was the
Cross contamination all the meat foods were spilling over the vegetarian options, all the tongs to pick the food up where cross contaminated people were using them for meat and vegetarian foods. The most shocking was the seafood cross contaminated with the vegetarian option the chips & the shrimps where touching the shrimps where spilling over into the chips I’m allergic to shellfish so I was unable to have any chips that night it’s very dangerous this could actually kill someone the food needs to be labeled and all the tongs should have separate stations for each food type.

We loved it here. It is very much a family hotel and we met some great extended families even though we went as a couple. I don’t want to invade anyone’s privacy by naming them but the family we met on our last night were just amazing and the little boy in the family asking me if we were going to be friends was a highlight of my hol! Also a group of 5 girls who will know who they are singing happy birthday to my partner was another fabulous night. Everyone gets on, it was a really feel good holiday.
Our room was at the front of the hotel and we loved the view beyond the car park. The room felt refurbished with a modern bathroom, tv, aircon and WiFi included. Any minor issues of maintenance were dealt with promptly. The food was excellent quality and very varied. My partner likes to dine well and he was very positive, even rating the prawns above the ones he ate in what is classed as one of the best restaurants in Argostoli. The restaurant staff worked hard and we were greeted and chatted to every time we went (sorry didn’t get your name!). Our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. We never saw the cleaners but came back to a clean room every day. The pool area and gardens were cleaned every day too. Thanks to Andrei the chief animator who started his role early and Gillian the Jet2 rep who was there regularly. They both work very hard.
We walked a lot in the area, it’s so unspoilt. We did walk to Lixouri a couple of times. It is 8km and takes less than 2 hours. It’s a nice walk but I would not recommend it in the heat of high season. It’s 15 euros each way for a taxi, so if you can, sort a share with someone. Transfers from the airport to the ferry and then the hotel were very smooth and the same on our return. We walked to Xi, it has a lot of profile but we didn’t think it was worth it, you can’t really get to the strip of sand, it’s not a beach as such, there are much better in the area.
You can hire a bike from the hotel for 10 euros a day. We did but returned them after 10 mins when I decided I couldn’t ride a bike….not sure if it was the bikes or my lack of practice…but I couldn’t get on with it, though it’s now persuaded me to buy a bike and learn/relearn! There were a lot of hills on the route we planned so probably as well we walked in the end. We walked to Captain Nikolas taverna a couple of times for a drink and lunch one day. Lovely people and the food was good. We were amused to read reviews of the other hotel in the area where people seemed to think Lixouri was an island, it’s not, you are just getting a ferry from one part of Kefalonia to another! The moving rocks at Kounapetra are worth a visit but sadly don’t move any more if they ever did!
Also, I didn’t expect to enjoy the water park but it is separate enough for you to avoid if you want but great fun if you use it!

Sorry, I cannot see from your message which block you mean…. Rooms generally good. You have to get to Lixouri to cross to Argostoli. No boat trips from near to Ionian Sea. We walked to Lixouri several times… about 5-6 miles, but we like walking.
