At the Ionian Sea Hotel & Villas - Aqua Park, guests have called out the clean pools and water park as highlights, although some travelers feel the all-inclusive options leave something to be desired. While the hotel's atmosphere and rooms get a mixed reception, ranging from modern and spacious to basic and dated, cleanliness is generally upheld, with fresh towels and well-maintained areas.
Service experiences vary, impacting perceptions of value, which is further challenged by additional costs. The tranquil, remote location is appreciated, though it may warrant a car rental for convenience.

Detailed Reviews
We just got back from this hotel last week and this my honest take on the hotel.
I actually liked the location it’s nice and quiet and it has a lovely beach very close where it was nice and not crowded also there was a bar / restaurant which was lovely.
There are bus services to lixouri 2 times a day or you can get taxi for 15 euro.
The food was very nice and had a variety of options which even fussy eaters can have something to eat although like most reviews it was very warm and very crowded in the restaurant which wasn’t relaxing. The snack bar was sandwiches cakes and ice cream all very nice but they should do pizza chips etc to accommodate more.
There is only 1 bar which the 2 barmen work very hard to minimise the ques and I didn’t have a problem with the drink selection myself.
The room was very basic but cleaned every day and nice balcony. Only problem is me and my partner had bed bug bites from our bed my brother and daughter didnt so must have been our bed.
Water park was great and you can always get a sunbed also I didn’t mind paying for a drink or ice cream as wider selection.
The 2 adult pools were crowded and very deep and you couldn’t get a lounger unless up early.
Averall we enjoyed our stay as we appreciate the staff work hard and we didnt spend a fortune booking this hotel so can’t expect the world.
If I was the owner I would update the kids arcades etc as well dated make one larger pool with more sunbed areas have a separate snack bar and a separate bar maybe in the lobby then the hotel will be much better.

Arrived at this hotel in August, family of 4, for 2 weeks. Our room was a maisonette which, although relatively small, was very clean and plenty of storage space. Cleaners came every day and changed towels and bedding regularly.
The complex has 2 swimming pools, a baby/toddler pool and a waterpark. We only visited the waterpark once, the kids weren't overly impressed with it and to be honest it was very worn and I'm guessing quite old! However, the pool areas at the hotel were lovely, there's a pool bar and the animation team ran various activities during the day. They worked really hard and I don't know where they got all their energy from but certainly one of the best animation teams I've seen. They also do evening entertainment which starts with a mini disco and then either a quiz, karaoke, comedy, etc.
The restaurant was fantastic. Christos was always there to greet everyone on arrival and was such a warm and friendly man, he never seemed to have a day off but was always so happy! The restaurant itself is massive and there's plenty of food choice.
The hotel is set in lovely grounds, lots of colourful flowers and shrubs, very well kept and clean. It is advisable to hire a car if you want to go out as it is in a rural area. The nearest shops are around 5 miles away.
The beach is only 5 minutes walk and is a sandy beach with lovely, clear sea that you can walk out in forever before it gets deep. It was only 6 euros for 2 sunbeds which was very reasonable as we often only stay at the beach for around 2 hours.
Overall, this is a really well run and clean family hotel with brilliant entertainment. I would recommend it!

I chose this hotel because I was meeting family there and I was wary from the start due to some of the reviews.
Check in
Don't expect any information about the surrounding area or helpful tips about the hotel, none of these were forthcoming.
Sunbeds
Nowhere near enough of them. Given the remoteness of this hotel I would have expected enough sunbeds for those who wanted them but unfortunately that isnt the case. They need at least an additional 30%.
Pool bar
The same goes for seating at the pool bar, nowhere near enough for the evenings. The service is chaotic to say the least and they also have a ridiculous 2 drinks per person rule, which means very, very long queues because more people from each group need to go up. Don't expect greek salads, burgers etc all you get is sandwiches, biscuits and ice cream. The ice cream contrary to some reviews is actually very nice.
Restaurant
The 'maitre d'' was friendly, helpful and remembered you and your room number at every meal. The food is pretty bog standard for an all inclusive so is what you'd expect, no better, no worse. The queues were horrendous and the staff couldn't keep up with demand, with drinks and food regularly running out and not being replaced for ages. Perhaps extending the opening hours or serving proper food at the pool bar might help.
Aqua Park
Excellent facility with friendly, attentive staff. Kids and adults loved it and considering guests got in for free this is a big selling point.
Cleanliness
The room unfortunately was not cleaned to the standard I would expect with hair from previous guests visible throughout the room and the bathroom could have been cleaner. To be fair i didnt report this so they didnt have a chance to rectify it.
A large number of staff and guests were eastern european and this meant the kids club was not geared towards english speaking children.
The animation team worked hard and the kids especially seemed to enjoy the evening activities including the mini disco.
All in all I would score it a 5 out of 10, could do better.

We went two weeks ago this is the first time I’ve got round to writing, let me tell you don’t listen to the bad reviews the island is paradise and the hotel is gorgeous! Our room was much nicer than I expected with the childrens room being upstairs! The room was cleaned daily and to a very high standard, the only issue was some of the top sheets were marked (however let me add these stains ranged from felt tip pen to make up, I suppose the lesson here is don’t let your children do colouring on the bed! And guests take your make up off before laying down) the reception was happy to change my sheet when I requested.
The animation team are amazing entertaining both young and old ( how bizarre! That’s an inside joke!) anyway , I won a few of the competitions ping pong and the queen of Greece my cocktail prizes hit the spot.
The bar tenders were attentive and always remembered our drinks, serviced with a smile!
The food was lovely varied and hot, my youngest son and I are vegetarian and my other half and son big meat eaters, we were all satisfied, in fact I put on some weight 😔 but hey it was our holiday
Poppy the manager is a lovely women and our holiday rep Gillian Jet2holidays was a star helping to resolve a minor dispute 😉
Highly recommend we definitely will be coming back
Xi beach €17 in a taxi …. Spent the whole day there, rented the pedallo and went on the “sofa” such fun/ great value, if you get there between 9-11am you can hire these for €10 a person rather than €15-20, they have waiters that come to your sunbeds where you can order drinks and food, sunbeds are €12 for 2 or €15 for the luxury front ones, these are lovely but faux leather so make sure you have a big beach towel, plus be aware of the tide coming in so depending on what time you get there, to influence your choice.
Lovely family taverna over looking the sea if you want to venture out of the resort
In town you can rent a speedboat for half a day or a full day with a skipper or you can navigate yourself and see all the different beaches! Great value at €80 half day plus fuel or the whole day €120 plus fuel the skipper is an extra €50 half day, we was going to go however there is lots to navigate and you have to throw the anchor in and swim to shore our 6 year old isn’t that confident in swimming so we didn’t go but next year!
This review is long and I could write so much more… but this isn’t a novel… so, just go!!

We stayed for 2 weeks in mid July as a party of 5 with a 9 year old in 2 rooms.
We found the transfer easy from the airport and took in the beautiful surroundings on the ferry trip over.
The hotel is in the countryside but close to a lovely beach with shallow shelving water and dramatic white cliffs, the hotel is quite remote, but researched
this before booking.
On arrival we were shown to our apartment block by
a friendly member of staff, the rooms we had were spacious with a nice balcony.
The shower was good, maybe a bit low to get under, but could be angled to suit, some flaking paint and a small patch of mould on ceiling, but nothing to affect our stay.
Fridge in room very handy and air conditioning was very good and kept us cool as temperatures soared to 40 degrees on a couple of days.
Beds were made up every day and rooms refreshed.
My parents had a issue with the lock on there balcony and was repaired very swiftly.
Pool area was great with 3 pools, son spent all day splashing in pools.
Water Park was very good as well.
Restaurant was light and spacious, but agree with other reviewers the Restaurant got very hot at lunch and evening times, possibly a extra air con unit or ceiling fans may help.
Food may I say is some of the best I have ever eaten in 20 years of all inclusive holidays, the selection was superb and seafood first class, still dreaming about them huge prawn we don't see in the UK, every day had Beef, Pork, Chicken, Fish and chicken nuggets and chips if that is your thing, my son enjoyed trying the different fish each night. Moussaka and local greek dishes were lovely.
The 3 Coffee machines worked perfectly over our 2 week stay.
Ice Cream was absolutely beautiful.
The local lager was refreshing and white and red wine were reasonable quality.
Maitre de at restaurant was absolutely great and brightened our meal times (hope his daughter has recovered from her illness), Staff in restaurant work extremely hard to keep the area tidy.
Bar staff worked exceptionally hard in very hot conditions, there were some queues at night, but queues dissipated quickly due to the bar staffs efforts.
Animation team were excellent, especially Sonya, Adela and the team in the kids club, we loved taking part in daily activities.
Evening entertainment was mixed with Quizzes, Games and a couple of Greek Nights. Some of the entertainment was poor, but they tried hard.
I do agree that sunbeds were in short supply and tables and chairs in evening.
Gillian our rep was exceptional and helped us plan our trips round the island, we booked a hire car and
found it easy to drive but worth it for the sceanic
drives, Fiskardo is lovely and Assos is stunning.
Overall a good 2 week break with my family.

Fantastic holiday with our family.
We have just returned from a week there with 3 children, 5/15/15. We had two rooms which were great sizes, our room with 5 year old over looked the entertainment area, amazing for a tired 5 year old so we could still watch and join in the quiz nights.
Lovely warm pools, enough sun beds to go around most days. We always share a couple between us all as kids in the pool most of the time.
Beach was a 5 minute walk, lovely and shallow, perfect for the kids.
We had a fab time.
The only downside is the hotel is as stated a 10 minute taxi ride (15 euros each way) to Lixouri town. There is no shops near the hotel.
All the staff were friendly and helpful at all times.
My youngest loved how the cleaners set his teddy bears up on his bed in different spots each day, the smallest touches makes a difference.
Great boats trips on offer from agostilli, ferries cross from Lixouri every half an hour max.

Just returned from a 1 week stay at the hotel
We arrived late at night so meals had finished but there was sandwiches and juice and water in our room.
We where shown to our rooms by the man who greats you at meal times he remembers everyone ones room number . He's fantastic
Room
Room was small but it's only where you sleep so it didn't bother us to much .
It was cleaned everyday and new towels
Food
Food was hit and miss was always something to eat but finding stuff to go with it was hard
Pool
We spent most of the time at the water park its great water isn't to deep pool staff are great the lady on the slides is very helpful. Drinks aren't included in the water park
Beach
Simply wow so warm and shallow great for a paddle .
Overall
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone
I think they should do an all-inclusive plus option so waterpark drinks even basic are included
There is room to leave the cases in after check out so you leave them in lobby bar and have to shower in the water park that's the only thing I didn't like .

Third time visiting the island of kefalonia and thought we would give this hotel a go due to its advertised water park. On arrival was greeted by the unhelpful man in glasses that previous reviewers have mentioned. They didn't seem to know about our booking but gave us a random key to a room and told us to email reception with our confirmation. The room itself was over looking the aqua park which looking at the photos in advertising doesn't exist. The room was OK didn't have much room to store clothes so just lived out of the suitcases. Also did have a hole in the wall with wires sticking out in the bathroom and the bed downstairs had nails hanging out which when travelling with young children is not ideal. The rooms we stayed in were extremely noisy you could hear word for word what the neighbours were saying and was always getting woken up by them and the ridiculously loud entertainment. We did go to a few kids party's but the music is awful and they seemed to do the same songs and things each night. They did do a Greek night while we were there which my daughter loved joining in the dancing. The restaurant was always chaotic and busy, always had to wait for a table to be cleaned. The young members of staff were always there so not sure also about the work experience excuse the hotel has given previously. You never could have a relaxed meal in the restaurant, Food was OK and was replenished regularly. All inclusive drinks were so disgusting I couldn't actually stomach them and had to buy drinks from the onsite shop. Not that I would want to que up for drinks as there was usually only one barman serving at the one bar.
There is 3 pools near the restaurant including a baby pool which was lacking in sun loungers so you could never get a seat but there was always usually loungers at the aquapark available. The aquapark is fun for the kids and visited most days. The lady lifeguard was always super friendly to the kids and we witnessed her rescue a lady while the other male lifeguard was not paying attention. Can use inflatables in the pool which was fun.The hotel does have a small beach within a short walk down the hill and cost 5euros for sunloungers. There is not much else around the hotel so unless you hire a car you will feel very trapped in the hotel. If you are looking at exploring kefalonia I would recommend a better resort such as lassi or skala as things are easier to get to over the other side of the island. From lixouri you have to take an hours drive or a ferry back to what I would call the main part of the island.

I visited with my three boys age 14,11 and 5 the last week of August. We had a lovely time and the room had the loveliest view of the sea as I had booked a family room away from the pools in the separate block.
Our room was close to the water park and garden bar which opened in the evening and we were but a 5 minute walk from the main pools and restaurant.
The pools were great for all ages but are very deep so please be careful with little ones, we were always able to get sun beds either at the main pools or the water park at any time of the day.
The beach is lovely, narrow but plenty of space to sit on the sand or rent beds and the sea is shallow for ages and my 5 year old lived that he could walk out so far.
The restaurant had good enough food and was what I had expected but the staff were on top of clearing away dirty dishes and putting out fresh food when required. The restaurant manager and front of house gentlemen were very friendly and happy to help and are an asset to the hotel. All staff were approachable and helpful, reception through to bar staff ( I read that the bar staff were miserable but if you take an interest and chat with them it brightened their day and made long shifts more bearable I’m sure). The tonics and carbonated drinks were not the best but drinkable. The beer was good and the spirits were decent.
Over all if you don’t expect the 4 star as advertised by some companies I would say that for a 3 star it’s a great little hotel.
My kids and I enjoyed the little water park too which had a good level of lifeguards who were on the ball at keeping people safe.
As I don’t tend to go back to the same hotel twice i probably won’t return but that’s not a reflection on the hotel at all just a personal choice to explore. I will definitely return to kefalonia in the future.
Safe travels everyone
Honest review of someone who travels a lot
On arrival reception staff couldn’t speak any English we had to pay a tax €40 plus.we booked a superior room which was a good walk from everything. Be prepared for the horrible sewage smell it’s horrendous even the room smelt of it.
Rooms are very basic but the cleaners keep the floors and bins emptied everyday and clean towels (towels stained some days and very hard) the decor is dark and outdated.
The food isn’t the best at all breakfast has plenty of choice the food isn’t that warm and the bread is stale every day even when going early for breakfast only one toaster for all the building. The butter is one huge tub for everyone to use ☹️
Lunch time the food is good one day bad the next and nothing for the younger kids. The snack bar is left over meals from
The lunch and sandwich curled up and not kept cold.
Evening meal we haven’t had one nice one in 14 days we went out to town for food most days which cost €30 return plus tip for driver.
This hotel is very secluded.
Pool area isn’t kept very clean around it and the bathrooms smell so bad wee all over the floors and the toilet paper is so hard. The drinks on the all inclusive is absolutely Terrible very chemical taste and smell to them. We spent a lot of time at the water park area where you pay for drinks and snacks but the staff are so nice and the pool are is clean. These staff need to give some tips to the bar staff at the main pool who are rude and nasty to adults and kids laughing and being ignorant when asked if they have a problem speaking in own language. The restaurant meet and greets are so nice and friendly never forgets your rook number and is Chatty.
Beware of the chemicals in the pool lots of our swim wear have been bleached yellow and blue from the paint on sides of the pool
This hotel is not 4* I would say 2* and I would never recommend to anyone. We paid over 3 and a half thousand pound for two weeks and we have spent so much more going out and about for food and drinks. Don’t do it

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We always appreciate the feed back, even the negative ones. It would have been nice to know your name but unfortunately you are writing with a nickname. In any case our food is very tastefull and there is plenty of choice. Many guest that complaint tend to write that they have paid a lot of money for this vacation but please let me point out that our prices are more that reasonable and the services that we provide are of high quality. It is a pitty that while you were here you never came once to complain at the front desk - none of the rooms that stayed for 14 days did come to complain- if you had taken the time to discuss either with us or your rep your experience would have been improoved.
