For the hotel category that it is, the Blue Sky lodge was great. From the negative reviews I read, people were expecting an upscale luxury hotel even though they must've seen the price. The lodge is tucked away just a minute or two walk from town. We had our dog with us and she was able to roam around the grassy area under the big oak tree. The patio is the size of the room. It would've be nice to have a fridge. I'd read that there isn't always someone at the front desk so I called ahead to let them know we were arriving and they were there when we arrived. Overall a sweet little lodge!
2nd Time there! Lovely property, cozy place, relaxing comfort in well equipped cottages, covid clean measures taken, outdoor space to relax, private with nice amenities. Near village, but in countryside.
Check in was a breeze! Room was clean, bed was comfortable. We loved how quiet it was and enjoyed seeing some wildlife while in the warmth of our room. :) Great location. Coffee shop and places to eat extremely close by. We will definitely be back again soon!
Great location. Huge potential, but indifferent management. No one at front desk. Rooms badly need a refrigerator and microwave. Bed faces closet an bathroom and not beautiful views outside. Unmounted tv takes up a lot of space. Have to squeeze along wall to get to bathroom because of positioning of bed. The owners should live in a room for a day and see what they need. At $125 a night they need to do a lot better. This was worth around $70-$80 as it was.
Times are tough with both COVID concerns and the fires. We totally get that, and most of this experience is likely tied to these difficult times and the place being understaffed and overburdened. That said, we booked a room with a kitchen specifically because 1) one of us has food allergies that make it easier for us to cook for ourselves, and 2) we are birders, so that food is going to be cooked either hours before sunrise or hours after sunset (before and after daily excursions). Upon arrival at 9pm (had called in advance to arrange late checkin), I as told that we would not have access to the kitchen until the following morning due to, a "maintenance issue" at one point and an "electrical/stove maintenance issue" at another point. This was rough to hear, because we had just bought ~$200 worth of food in Salinas on our way in for the long weekend. We constructed a makeshift cooler out of a plastic trash can, cooled by a couple frozen foods and chilled beers, wrapped in towels for insulation to make sure our meat and dairy products didn't go bad. At 5:30am the next morning, however, it was very clear that the kitchen was in full use by the neighboring suite. There was no maintenance issue, our kitchen was just double-booked. We could hear the microwave, the sink, the aluminum foil for lunch prep. This was irksome, because had we just been communicated with beforehand, we would have not bought sensitive foods before hand, would have bought easy/dry breakfast goods. And also would not have needed to waste the first 3.5 hours of our "birding" time in the morning trying to figure this out. We were compensated with a $75 reduction off the first night, which is truly appreciated! Rest of it: They cleaned the kitchen really well, with great COVID concerns. Yay! They did not provide a set of blankets that we asked for multiple times (once in person, once on the phone 8 hours later) The shower had a sneaky jet that liked to soak the rest of the bathroom if you didn't immediately close the shower Porch sliding door slides off track and gets jammed in its own guide rail. I think this place can be awesome, and have friends who have stayed here before with great experiences. I think right now is just tough, and maybe this place was understaffed this weekend. …
