Detailed Reviews
Stayed here as part of a Roadscholar trip to the Monterey Jazz Festival. It’s about 11 miles out Carmel Valley from Route 1, but also out of the traffic and congestion of the Monterey/Carmel area. Has a small restaurant and bar with above average food and a great bartender. Rooms are a bit dated, but clean and spacious. Beds and pillows could be more comfortable. Coffee maker has fresh ground coffee! The owners are friendly and helpful. There are shops and restaurants about a mile up the road, as well as all that the Monterey area has to offer.

Our party of four dined here for the first time on a Friday night. We enjoyed our casual dining entrees - fish and chips, hamburger and spaghetti. The size of the fish and chips and hamburger were generous and the food price is a good value. Our waitress was great. We’ll make reservations for the patio for our next visit - the tavern room was a bit noisy.

My wife and I have stayed here many times. It is an old ranch converted into a wonderful place to stay. There are lots of different rooms including a separate little cottage. The owners are wonderful and take great care in providing a nice place to stay. There is a large pool on site and a restaurant. The food is very good. The place is affordable and minutes away from Garland Ranch, a great place to hike, and wine tasting.

We love this little gem for a relaxing, unpretentious getaway.
So comfortable, clean rooms, comfy bed, clean, upkept grounds with beautiful old Oak trees, outdoor patio chairs good for afternoon wine, and a yummy, reasonable restaurant with service that isn't rushed. We enjoyed a yummy St. Patrick's Day dinner with choices of starter, entree and dessert. So on point for the holiday and delicious. Finished up with an after dinner drink in the comfy lounge and met a neat, interesting local couple at the bar who were fun to talk with.
We will definitely return.

We held my father-in-laws reception here. I cannot say enough how Les and her crew worked to make this event flow smoothly. With rain in the forecast she allowed the event to move inside. The food was great, the service impeccable, and Les’s crew was there to handle any little detail. I love the old fashioned set of rooms that comprise the restaurant. It is like being in a British pub!
If you are staying there be sure and enjoy the cookies in the morning. They are scrumptious!

Nice property, relaxed atmosphere, pool guests very mixed (locals are welcome) with seniors, body builders, lots of tatoos and everyday middle aged couples accompanied by reggae and alternative music. Drinks and lunch is served poolside - liked it.
Rooms a tad to rustic for my taste, the bed on Surrey (at least ours) room no. 2 terrible, the fold out is a back breaker. Bathroom very basic. Loved the area and will be back.

We picked this lodge due to the great reviews on Trip Advisor, and the price of the lodge in comparison to the 5 star hotels in the area which were quite a bit more pricey.
This property is extremely dated. I don't think it has been touched in 30 years. The rooms are very clean, but also very noisy. If you have any trouble sleeping, you will be up most of the night. It is right along the main drag, so you can hear each car pass by. You can also hear the conversations of your neighbor, and I mean every single word they say. If someone decides to get up early and open and close doors, you will hear all of it.
I did not eat at the restaurant, as I was ready to leave the moment we checked in. I barely slept, and will not be returning.

I grew up in Carmel Valley and still have family there. Patty and I just stayed at Los Laureles in connection with a 50th high school reunion event--my first stay at the Lodge since 1971. It's important to understand that this is an older facility. The hotel website starts its history with a 1915 acquisition by the Pacific Improvement Company, but if memory serves it was a stage coach stop well before that. In selecting a place to stay in Carmel Valley, it's also important to keep in mind that options are quite varied.
We stayed in the "Honeymoon Cottage" so some of this review will not apply to other rooms. The small, quaint, cottage was attractively remodeled in a style was somewhat 1970s-ish. The large room included a King sized bed and a hide-a-bed in an adjacent area. There is a nicely sized refrigerator and a coffee maker. Heat is provided by a 1950ish natural gas or propane wall heater with a somewhat touchy thermostat. Wiring is relatively contemporary. There is a small, quite-private porch area that faced onto a wooded area. The television was relatively ancient, but there was a reasonable selection of channels.
Concerns:
(1) The in-room 3-ring binder is many years out of date. (Example: It assumes you will connect to the internet using a phone line and makes no mention of the fact that the room has WiFi. (We only found out about the WiFi when we asked about internet at the front desk.)
(2) The "continental breakfast" is remarkably forgettable. Except for the fruit and coffee, it's hard to find much nice to say about it. Two cereal choices: One was a granola that had a bitter taste and the other looked like rice crispies. Even some Cheerios would have been a considerable improvement. Our first morning the baked goods were limited to the oversized triglyceride-loaded muffins that nobody should be eating. The second morning there were also plain croissants served with butter that was too cold to spread. Suggestion: Since you have a frig in the room, consider hitting a grocery store before checking in.
(3) Road noise: There's not much to be done about the historic location--that is immediately adjacent to the busy Carmel Valley Road. This problem particularly impacts the swimming pool area that is just a fence away from the road.
(4) There were occasional ants in the bathroom.
(5) Some windows did not have screens, but Carmel Valley has relatively few flying critters.
Bottom line: We would likely go back if a similar occasion arises--but we will hit the mid-Valley Safeway first. --Jeff

Seemed like a tranquil location, and it had so many good reviews on this site. When we got there, the first 2 rooms we were shown smelled awful, they had old carpeting and reeked of carpet cleaner. The third room had hardwood floors, but a smaller bed and was close to the road. The noise from the cars and trucks woke us up early. Very unpleasant, considering we wanted to escape the noise of the city for the weekend. I suppose once they renovate some of the other rooms it might improve. it does have a nice, historic charm. The pastries at breakfast were awful, although the coffee and fruit platter were good, at least on the first day of the weekend, before they ran out of fruit.

I went here with a friend who had made this his home away from home in the 1960's. It was full of memories for him and the changes and improvements made over the years made it a very wonderful memory for us to share. We had a quiet drink on the porch in front of our room before going over to the resturant for a great meal on the patio by the fire. Finished off the night in the bar where we were joined by two couples who we made friends with easily. Turned out to be another retired San Fransico policeman, just like my friend! Such good times and a great overnight stay!

Yes they will accept pets. However check with them to find out how large a pet. I have seen mostly small dogs...
