LaPlaya is a made for memories. Our stay was so wonderful from the moment we were greeted in the lobby. Every member of the staff was terrific..Our king ocean view was comfortably warm and inviting with the views of the lush gardens and ocean. The morning Champagne breakfast was a delicious European flavor that offered many choices from warm waffles, to fruits and omelettes.
Can’t wait to come back. While it had been 20 years since my last visit, it still retains its pedigree. Totally relaxing and a real cut above. Falling asleep to sound of ocean waves was the perfect end to each evening. Loved it!
The property is beautiful the rooms are very outdated! There was no way to open the window in my room & no ac so it was extremely stuffy. At 5am I could hear the staff moving tables & setting up for breakfast service above me. It was loud! Overall the property is stunning but they need to do an interior renovation to bring the rooms up to date.
Staff was very friendly. Breakfast buffet is topnotch, and bar was a great place to have a cocktail before heading off to dinner. It was cold and raining, so we didn't get to experience the outside, but we plan on staying here again. We had a 4th floor room with ocean views that can't be obtained in many other Carmel hotels.
No room service, valet parking or air conditioning. I travel a lot and these things matter to me. The bathroom had no counter space. I appreciate the ocean view and the comfortable bed. If you want more of a modern hotel with amenities and not damaged plantation shutters, then try another spot. If you want to be 2 blocks from the beach, don't mind noisy neighbors, and do not need amenities, then this spot could work for you. Staff was friendly
What a gem in Carmel! If you appreciate a historical spot in a great location this is for you! It’s not modernized or brand new, but I am not sure if anything in Carmel is. Which is what gives it all its charm and makes it the perfect spot. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. The breakfast and drinks were top notch. The shuttle service to dinner was so great as there are no street lights or sidewalks on the side streets. We loved our stay!!! Couldn’t recommended enough if the vibe is for you!
All in all, a really nice stay. Staff was incredibly gracious and welcoming. The setting is really special being so close to the water and so close to walking into town day or night. There is noise with room renovations in place. Also when there is an event on the outdoor terrace, it is LOUD. We had several issues with our upgraded room including a failed lock that left us stranded outdoors as the engineers tried to remedy the problem. Thank goodness for what was an unlocked window they found and climbed through. But again, the guys were great in their quest to remedy the unfortunate situation. And look, things happen I get it. The only disappointment was learning there was a $45/day/room mandatory charge and whilst it included breakfast and transportation into town, it is not emphasized at check-in. I asked if breakfast was included in the price of our room. I was told breakfast was not included in the price of the room but was available for a $45/day charge (which included other incidentals). We said we'd think about it given there were so many great coffee shops in town. When I went to check out I saw the $45/day charge on the bill. I questioned it and relayed our experience at check in. My concern was far less about the $45/day cost (it is a decent value) but more about the lack of clarity provided at check-in. So just be aware, there is an additional $45/day charge on top of all the other charges. …
We went with a group of twelve for my husbands 50th birthday. Every minute at the hotel was wonderful. Beautiful and special place! The staff was incredible and everything perfect. The champagne brunch was a treat and the chef’s special house made salsa at the omelet bar was a hit! The bar was so fun and sangria happy hour along with nightly chocolate chip cookies by the fireplace is such a nice touch. Then there’s the spectacular grounds/landscaping along with the gorgeous pool. Location is perfect as well and made for wonderful morning walks to the beach or evening jaunts for dinner. We didn’t want to leave!!
Excellent service, great location, sunsets by the sea and close to shopping. Please ask about the free shuttle service to restaurants nearby, it’s a plus! Will definitely stay at La Playa again! Highly recommend.
Hotel lobby smell is amazing and unforgettable! I seriously want them to package it and sell it! I heard they are possibly making a candle…. I hope so! My only “complaint” would be the very low water pressure in the shower. It’s such a waste of water having to take such a long shower just to make sure all of the shampoo is rinsed out of my long hair! I know other women with long hair “feel my pain” and would agree. Overall though, a great vacation and can’t wait to visit again!
