Detailed Reviews
This hotel is a few blocks from the "main drag" in Carmel, and two doors down from a great little market. Location, location, location.
I had a suite with a balcony with an ocean view. The rooms have been renovated -- the only shortcoming is the lack of A/C, which is common in Carmel and was not an issue during my stay in July. The king bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was both large and well-lit. The price for the size and amenities was attractive.
I managed to catch my finger in a shower door. Mike at the front desk greeted me with sympathy, a sewing kit (for a needle), rubbing alcohol (to sterilize it). All of the staff I met were friendly.
I will definitely return.

Stayed here in February when we were passing through heading to LA. The room had a terrible smell as soon as we opened the door and I was not sure if we were going to be able to stay in the room it was that bad. However we opened up every window before we headed out in the afternoon and the smell had subsided just enough to be able to stay there. We were only there one night so just sucked it up. The hotel is very dated aswell, but is in a great location and walking distance to town. There is also free parking and wifi. They also had a free buffet breakfast in the breakfast room which was nice.

For Carmel, the price was reasonable for 3 nights at $940. Our room, 508, was on the top floor and had a great view of the bay. Glad there was an elevator as the stairs are quite steep. The room was nice with a fireplace in one corner. Bed was comfortable and wifi was good. Fairly large fridge, but no microwave. Be advised there is no AC, but we travel with a fan and the weather was pleasant during our stay. The only cons during our visit: We tried to check in at 2:45 and even though the room was ready, they have a policy of not letting you check in until exactly 3:00 pm. So we sat and waited the 15 minutes. The "breakfast" was a paper bag with a tiny bottle of water, a green banana and a very plain croissant. Plus, the "breakfast" was not available until 8:00 am? But overall, a good value for Carmel and we would stay here again. Office staff was very nice.

Once more we enjoyed Carmel and the hiking close by. This time we came during the AT&T golf tournament in Pebble Beach. The city was crowded but we got a decent price at this hotel. The room was nice and well heated. The location of the hotel is a couple of steps from a local market and 1.5 blocks from Ocean Ave. There many excellent restaurants.
The hotel breakfast was included but it was not our cup of tea. We decided to walk to a better breakfast place, that was easy.
In other words I give 4 out 5 to this place for the room, the parking in premises and the price.
In summer time the swimming pool would be a nice extra that is available.

We went during the once-in-a-lifetime heatwave. The hotel has no AC and our room was hot and stuffy. We requested a fan and the front desk had one sent up. Thank goodness it gave us some relief during the night. We paid extra to have a room with a fireplace (LOL) and a balcony. The large balcony was wonderful and we enjoyed sitting out and watching the sunset in the evening.
The room was clean and we were required to tell the front desk every morning if we needed new towels, trash pickup, etc. Some days it was done and some days it wasn't. We needed toilet paper and Kleenex and were told that it would be after 8:30 a.m. before someone could bring them to our room. I had to get dressed and walk down the steep hill to the front office to pick them up.
Overall, we enjoyed our visit. For $400 plus a night, the service could have been a little better.

Stayed here for three nights in December and was met with thin walls and rickety heater. The fireplace was decorative and did not actually heat the room. We had to request a space heater in order to not sleep in layers. We had a room on the second floor and every time some one walked past it was like they were in the room with us. The worst part was the completely disinterested staff. I get we are in Covid times but there are hotels that are still providing breakfast to go and cleaning the rooms. The front desk man was condescending and didn’t so much as ask “how was your stay?” when we checked out. I think there are cozier places available in Carmel.

Great location. Room was nice enough. Breakfast was poor. You would think that for the cost of the hotel and location they bring the breakfast quality up to at least an average level. It is a very large hotel occupying several floors accessible by two streets.

I had a terrible experience here. I booked through Wells Fargo and never got a confirmation email or any correspondence. I showed up and they told me I booked for the night before. I asked if they could do anything for me and they wouldn’t. I called Wells Fargo and all they could do was ask the hotel for a refund or to rebook me for the correct night, which they refused to do. At the very least, they should have called me the night before when I was a “no show.”
The guy at the front desk told me I could book another room for $260. I refused and went to Carmel Resort Inn which was a blessing in disguise. The rooms there are huge! It’s like staying in your own private cabin with your own driveway, free parking, outdoor fire pit, indoor fireplace, microwave and fridge. Save yourself and go save $100 by booking at Carmel Resort Inn.

Hotel is overpriced. Next time I would spend the extra money to stay elsewhere. Carmel is already very expensive but it wasn’t worth the value at the Carmel Bay View Inn. Rooms look better in online photos. In reality our room was pretty out dated. I would not consider this a boutique hotel. Although the room was clean it had a strange smell, possibly from cigarettes or pet odors?? The balcony view was excellent. I suppose that is what we paid for. Staff at check in was very friendly, but other management and GM were just average and not very helpful. Possibly too short staffed??
BEWARE if booking an upper floor ocean view room with fireplace and balcony. These rooms are only accessible by elevator. No stair access to these upper floor rooms. The elevator was broken for our entire three night stay. Due to the broken elevator, the only way to access the rest of the property, lobby, swimming pool etc is by walking ( or driving) around the block. Yes around the block (and uphill)! This is not described on the hotel website and is a huge inconvenience! Will not stay here again. Poor communication and management. Such a bummer!

It was a lovely property with large rooms and comfortable king bed. There was a refrigerator but no microwave in the room. The Inn is providing a continental breakfast in a paper bag which you picked up at the breakfast area which is closed due to COVID. There was a nice pool and lobby area.

Yes, it’s open and we had a very lovely view toward the ocean as it sits up the hill
Great sunsets.
I assume that they would give you the seniors rate!
Enjoy!
ocean view is pushing it as the BW is far from the ocean.
